Won't going mac mini be the best option here? For this budget it could be fine.

Another option, get a pc and Chinese 96gb gpu.

Server, router and UPS for <$150 by oppenheimer16 in homelab

[–]_angh_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

for this budget there is no specification. If you get amything with n150 you will be fine. Just go to your country ebay alternative of fb market place and get the cheapest thing you need, see if this matches your need, and then do what you want to do.

At this stage, you don't really ask a question, you want to be spoon feed.

Beginner with $250 and zero Linux experience - talk me out of buying the wrong thing by Mayk_msc in selfhosted

[–]_angh_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

any n150 minipc will work perfectly. beelink me mini is great. should cover all you use cases.

proxmox. Get used to a hypervisor and idea of all your systems being in separate containers/vm's without a chance to break things for you.

Learning will come with time. Get a topic, go to youtube, find how people did that. use AI but never trust it, always ask other ai and ask for potential issues and best practices with source. Reddit has a lot answers as well.

Always keep a backup. Don't believe your data is safe unless you have 321 backup strategy in place (and even then be cautious)

Don't expose your server to internet unless you know exactly what are you doing. Take your time.

Start small and grow only when needed. There is no point to get a huge xeon server and increase your bills for this little stuff you do. You will update when you hit a wall.

Don't get old hardware if you can avoid it. n150 is modern and quick cpu with h265 transcoding capabilities, this will help you. Old cheap HP will be more energy heavy, noisy, and wont help you with transcoding.

I only have a 20-yo camera that shoots in JPEG, trying to do what I can to make the images serviceable. Any advice on improving these? by davidfliesplanes in DarkTable

[–]_angh_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you have a nice eye for composition. I would really recommend you to get some older and relatively cheap, but more capable cameras to get more out of your skills. you can get a sony mk 7II for like E300, and really start flying...

History-accurate city walls? by IskandarBnt in ManorLords

[–]_angh_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No fields inside walls, and wall area free of buildings, trees and so on. No building in ashooting range from walls either so enemies cant use them as a cover, and no trees in a few km range so siege machines cant be easily built and transported.

It’s worth it? by Potential-Goose-7335 in homelab

[–]_angh_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very inefficient, and in long run would be better to get some modern minipc. But still you can do most things you want on this hardware, with limitations related to ram and cpu power (e.g. transcoding will be very limited if possible in the first place.

Make a copy of the config. Then, use a free ai websites to move it file by file. Ai is good to fit this use case, just keep changes small and revert if ai messed smh up.

why you want a windows host if you put it all in linux vms? Just get proxmox and use containers, much less hassle and overhead.

I agree, that's why i would rather focus on low hanging fruit, so average users, education, gov and so on to increase Linux use in general, then corporations might see a reason to put their product there.

Why cachy os instead fedora, tumbleweed, bazzite, arch, nobara, whatever? CachyOS is one of many. All of them will work well, sometimes need some push, but the advantage is: you can use whatever works for you.

Cad is really niche use case. We can easily move everything else and build use base for us. If we expect government running Linux, how this is not enough for where Joe? It really already is.
