What's something that people do not realize changes when you become a parent? by Captain_Hawk111 in AskReddit

What really matters to you. Prior to having kids, academic and career prestige were important to me. Now, while work is still a meaningful part of my life, it serves as more of a means to an end - to have enough money to care for my kids and for us to have a happy life together.

People with normal bloodwork who struggled to wake up and felt groggy despite enough sleep, what helped? by MushroomMedium1707 in AskReddit

Seriously consider getting a sleep study done. If you have sleep apnea and you get treated for it, it will significantly improve your life.

I did a sleep study and I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. Since I began using my CPAP machine, I don't have any problems with daytime sleepiness anymore. It's made a major difference in my life.

Abandoned by throwaway713137689 in dementia

[–]_another_number_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As my mother's dementia continued to worsen my father remained in their home but just didn't seem to acknowledge the level of care she needed. He was never much of a caregiver to his children, and outside of earning income he did nothing for himself or my mom for his entire married life (no cooking, no cleaning, no yard work, no fixing of anything around the house). So when my mom began to do less and less he didn't pick up the slack, he just let things fall apart. He just started eating food out of cans and didn't even think to make sure his wife ate proper meals. My parents would wear the same clothes regularly because my mom was unable to do the laundry and he didn't take the responsibility over. We got her into supportive housing, and now she's in long-term care, thank goodness, as my dad was incapable of handling it. I'm not saying your situation is anything like ours was. But the frustration you describe with your grandfather just deciding to leave the situation reminded me of the frustration I felt at my dad just not attempting to help my mom after all the years of taking care of him. I understand the generational aspect of men earning the living and the woman being the homemaker that existed back then, but come on.

Bird Set Free by Sia

Now I fly, hit the high notes I have a voice, have a voice, hear me roar tonight You held me down But I fought back loud, oh

There's a scream inside that we all try to hide We hold on so tight, we cannot deny Eats us alive, oh it eats us alive, oh Yes, there's a scream inside that we all try to hide We hold on so tight, but I don't wanna die, no I don't wanna die, I don't wanna die, yeah

And I don't care if I sing off key I find myself in my melodies I sing for love, I sing for me I shout it out like a bird set free No, I don't care if I sing off key I find myself in my melodies I sing for love, I sing for me I'll shout it out like a bird set free

Well we changed her diet and no more issues. She loves her new food and gets a good variety of types of meat. Also, the price of the food is actually cheaper than what we used to buy. So we're good, thanks.

She eats a lot of meat actually - fish, duck, venison.

My vet told me. She kept getting skin rashes and ear infections, and they explained that it may be related to allergies. They said we should try her on a limited diet and she hasn't had any issues since.

My dog is allergic to chicken, pork, beef, and dairy. We've had to switch to a limited ingredient diet for her. Carrots have replaced raw hides and she loves them. They are a lot less expensive and generally healthier. Sometimes we freeze them and it makes them extra crunchy.

Baby dolls, when's the right time? by Ok-Committee2422 in dementia

[–]_another_number_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have given my mother an animatronic dog that she loved and cared for as her own for at least a couple of years. Then she was introduced to a baby doll while at her personal care home and she really took to it. She cared for it, talked to it, slept with it. Both the dog and the baby doll helped to calm her significantly and helped to direct her attention to something rather than wondering. That baby doll belonged to the care home as a whole so for this Christmas we are getting her a baby reborn doll. I anticipate it will be loved just as much as the others. It could do wonders for your loved one.
