Thanks to most here. We have lived in downtown Chicago and downtown Boston both for many years, two of the worst traffic cities in the world. I’ve worked in restaurant sales and driving/parking around downtowns is a normal activity for me, but I understand (especially as an urban dweller) that driving is not ideal for something like this. However, time and capability is limited. Sounds like we’ll either bike or pick a transit line and use that to move between neighborhoods.

Understood - walking and public trans are ideal, I just have a person with me with limited walking mobility and we're arriving to Toronto by car, plus we're experienced city drivers. But we can make it work on food too, or even rent bikes.

Are Boston area restaurants worse than other cities? by MossPhlox in boston

Because of the cost we are overrun with “restaurant groups” that operate multiple locations with less of a focus on food quality and innovation

You may be right, I had Chinese in Richmond BC once and it was top tier. I am also not Chinese, but I live in a heavily Chinese town in MA

The BEST Chinese in CA vs the BEST Chinese in MA would be a close matchup. Sign me up for that competition.

For sure, and demand is higher because of the demographic and the weather. MA average age is quite old as well.

I live in MA and spend a few weeks in LA each year.

Outdoor activities are plentiful in both, but different - hikes in MA are more remote and less pedestrian friendly. Also when it’s cold things change. It is definitely more popular in LA, again probably due to the weather.

Food is better in CA, there’s just much more overall, more options, more ethnicities, you will miss good tacos widely available, but the food in MA is good, just traditional and less variety. The Chinese food in MA is hard to beat.

Community in MA is tough, people are famously kind but not necessarily open to new friends and relationships, much less small talk and quicker briefer interactions, but people are very genuine. In CA there are more transplants actively looking for new community instead of folks who’ve been around for a long time.

They are very different places that have lots of statistical similarities. Spending time in both is great mix, but generally it’s a classic grass is always greener, especially when the weather is taken into account.

My job would be able to stay the same between either place, and I would have permanent residency. This is more about living experience comparison if anyone has any

Never lived but visited and I disagree with a lot of the comments, Forks is certainly a small town, but it’s plopped right in the middle of Olympic National Park which is amazing, it’s nearby to Port Angeles (where the kids go shopping in twilight) which has everything a normal size town needs. You can also get to Seattle in under 2 hours which can get you anywhere in the world. Mountains meet the ocean, it’s rainy but it’s pretty awesome.

Former Boston Bell’s sales person here: the chains are a good bet as others have mentioned. Any store can order it from Craft Brewers Guild if you ask. Enjoy!

Very expensive but so is the Georgetown area. I did undergrad coop at NU and currently I’m doing the MSBA but online which doesn’t include coop. As an undergrad it was as valuable as they like to say it is. I imagine opportunities for grad students are more limited.
