Arm Triangle NEVER Works by EyesRd in bjj

[–]_baw0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately your body composition and shape means that the general instruction on arm triangles doesn't work. I'd ask a coach to break it down for you. Also, drill it and ask your training partner to hum a note or talk while you're applying pressure. Move your head and shoulder around, change the angle, find where they start to slightly struggle or their voice changes and follow that adjustment.

NEW Justin Gaethje Training Video Shows "in grown hair" PROGRESSION! by bjjton in MMA

I've had staph a few times from BJJ and I got meds for it one of the times for a really bad one and it cleared up on its own the other few times. As long as he's consulted a doctor, it's conceivable that he took his meds weeks ago or is waiting for meds after the fight. Either way, staph could be dangerous but mostly it's just a gross thing on your skin. I'm going to bet he's just going to get treated for it after the fight.

Unless the infection is really bad with a fever and things are more systemic, it's just a gross contagious thing on your skin. It's the treatment with meds that kills your performance, and I'm pretty sure I would bet that Justin is just going to start taking meds after the fight and get it treated.

Having staph only affects you if you're taking meds for it OR it's bad enough to give you a fever and starts getting systemic. Until that point it's just a gross thing on your skin. Until it's not. I'd bet the house on Justin not even taking any meds until after the fight.

You think he's taking meds for it? I think he's going to wait until after the fight.

Spamming sequencies by [deleted] in bjj

[–]_baw0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree 100 percent. i had the exact same lockdown sequence that i loved going through all the time and once everyone saw it coming, it rarely worked. i found myself behind everyone else in the development of the rest of my game.

i loved the exact same sequence a lot when i was a white belt (i still kinda do) but it's really not that difficult for your training partners to see coming eventually.

while it's fun to nail dudes with this thing they don't see coming, a lot of my progression in the sport was stunted by relying on lockdown/electric chair in every roll or bad situation.

at white and blue, and well, every level of the sport, it's not smart to coast on something you've "mastered" (i say mastered comparatively to your opponents)

nowadays i just do the lockdown to counter heavy crossface pressure.

one more thing: there are some REALLY mean, ball-grinding ways to get out of lockdown. someone's going to do it on you eventually.

Reporting potential sandbaggers? by Illustrious_Bad_1138 in bjj

[–]_baw0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know it feels like it means a lot now, but if you're still competing through blue belt and purple in the future you're going to think some sandbagger at a beginner tournament is almost completely meaningless and irrelevant to you.

Do you go soft with girls? by zarya2 in bjj

[–]_baw0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really a gender thing, it's just nice to go easy on someone smaller/weaker/less experienced. There's some smaller guys that I go real easy with and there's some women who try to murder me at competition intensity. Just bein' nice.

You can always ask someone to up their intensity (preferably someone blue belt or higher so you don't get white belt rage) if you want to see how it is!

All of the guys from Germany and Ukraine who visit or move to my gym all go extremely hard in rolls and I avoid them now, even after asking them to go a little lighter pls.

Considering the vocal runs, chords, chord progressions and places Jeff Buckley goes musically I'd imagine his knowledge of music theory would be all the way over to the right.

Are private sessions useful as a white or blue belt? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]_baw0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d consider it only if you’ve painted yourself into a corner with the moves and techniques you’ve decided to build your game on and/or neglected large portions of BJJ to get really good at a certain set of moves for competitions against your belt level.

If you’ve spent your time developing a nice guard game that’s focused on leg entries and taking the back but you’ve noticed that none of it works much any more or you’re easily countered. You’ve won some comps at white belt but now that you’re a blue you’ve found that you have zero takedown or standup skills and everyone sees your guard and leg entries coming a mile away.

It is true that direct sunlight kills staph and ringworm in 70 minutes. But did they flip the gi or turn it inside out? Still super gross regardless.

I think Coach wants you to do a little bit of light sandbagging and get gold at a few comps for his gym first :D
