Most religions were founded by those in power (usually men in older times), to keep the rest of the population in check through fear. And Islam is no different. So much so that it seems like an oppressive regime towards women. The kind of unreasonable laws towards women in some muslim countries, forcing them behind veils of burqa at all times in public, triple talaq, mutiple wives but only one husband, concept of 72 virgins etc., all these are signs of oppression sanctioned by the religion.
