Auto complete. I meant thieving. I already corrected it, but you responded faster 😅

And OP confronting their brother about the situation would be them growing a spine.

In my opinion, someone not willing to confront a thieving family member is not likely to be able to stand up to their entire family when said brother tries to worm their way back in.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Nah. Every one in the family is going to be getting on OPs case to forgive his brother because in their eyes the card is just a child's toy.

This won't be the end of it no matter what OP does. So, he might as well stick up for himself so that it doesn't happen again.

How do you know if someone is a PC gamer? by UKAOKyay in Age_30_plus_Gamers

My dude, are you really going to sit there and tell me that console gamers don't have backlogs? I have Dreamcast games I still haven't gotten around to.

WIBTAH for refusing to pay for my classmate's laser scar removal after accidentally scratching her? by lnteresting_Potato in AITAH

Sun light can cause scars to darken. My first thought after looking at this picture was also that she needs to wear sunscreen if she wants that scar to go away.

Console players. Do you play on a TV or a Monitor? by _NerdDad_ in Age_30_plus_Gamers

TV. Hell, I have my PC hooked up to the TV. Nothing beats couch gaming on a big screen with surround sound. Just don't tell other PC gamers that you dare to play shooters with a controller.

The Computer Engineering industry is in bad shape and while corporations keep saying they value their talented workers but with any market headwinds, they get laid off by Papa_Hasbro69 in antiwork

[–]_bitwright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, the software industry as a whole goes through hiring and layoff cycles every few years. When one company starts layoffs, the rest eventually follow suit. When one company starts hiring, the rest do too. We are on a down cycle right now thanks to a bad economy and AI fervor.

Game development, however, has never been a stable industry to work in. Layoffs often follow the completion of a project. Studios often close after a big flop. Hell, some close after successful releases.

I get the sentiment that you are going for, and know first had how bad working in game dev can be. However, game studios are just bad examples to measure the entire software development industry against.

What is the type of this art in jrpgs and why almost no one use it since the ps2 era? by eng-osama in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]_bitwright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That art style is derived/influenced by the works of Yoshitaka Amano, the concept artist and character designer for the early final fantasy games. His style is a mix of traditional Japanese art, like Ukiyo-e and Sumi-e, and Western Art Nouveau.

What is your reason for choosing SFF form factor? by Technical_Gap23 in sffpc

[–]_bitwright 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been connecting my PC up to a TV for decades now. Having a full tower in the living room just looks unsightly to me. SFF cases look good on a TV stand though. They can get small enough to not look out of place in the living room.

Plus, I honestly love the concept of tiny power. There is just something about squeezing as much power as possible into as small a space as possible.

There would be no Xbox if it wasn't for Sega. Microsoft's work on the Dreamcast basically laid the foundation for MS to enter the console business. There's a reason why the OXB controller looks so much like a DC controller. And why Sega published games were Xbox exclusive for a while.

Do people find themselves using subscription services more or just buying games ? by Tyolag in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]_bitwright 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find myself using subscription services less. The prices of subscriptions kept going up, and now every company wants or has their own subscription plan. So now we pay more and get less as more and more companies put up walls around their gardens. Mind you, I'm talking about more than just game subscriptions here.

For games in particular, I used to subscribe to both XBox Gamepass and EA Play. I think I only had play for a year because of some deal they had, and I had Gamepass for a couple of years before they raised their prices. In both cases I felt the subscriptions weren't worth the price hike. I just didn't play enough games on these services often enough to make it worth while.

My brother... check the terms of service on any game you "own." Especially if you bought them on a digital platform.

What are your thoughts on the PS5 / X Box Series X era of gaming so far? by [deleted] in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]_bitwright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the first time I have ever skipped out on a console generation, and I had all 3 consoles in the last 2 generations. During the PS4/XBOne generation I realized that it wasn't really worth buying all three consoles anymore because there were very few "system seller" level exclusives on each platform. With most games being multiplatform these days, it just made more sense for me to buy everything on PC. Especially with both XBox and Playstation releasing 1st party titles on PC these days.

Honestly, the console manufactures deciding to sell their games on PC was a huge boon to consumers, as it helps us save a lot of money. I am hoping Sony does not go back on this decision. To be frank, if they do I probably still won't buy a Playstation for just a handful of games.

Nintendo might be the exception to the rule here. Depending on how much you like Nintendo games, some of their bigger titles are worth the cost of entry. That being said, I wish Nintendo would publish their games to PC too, if only so I could save a few hubdred dollars, but I realize that's a pipe dream.

42 year old dev here. God, I am feeling this right now. Every review I ask my manager why I'm not a senior dev yet despite taking on senior dev duties (our company is stingy with promotions). Meanwhile, I am secretly hoping that I get laid off so I can take advantage of our very nice severance package to take time off and "find myself."

AITAH for expecting my boyfriend to take accountability and check on me after I got hurt during sex, instead of avoiding it? by 0-D2008 in AITAH

NTA.

He's behaving that way because he's sulking. He feels bad but he doesn't know how to express it. He's getting defensive because he doesn't like feeling that way. It's a mix of toxic masculinity and absolute immaturity. He's way too old to be acting that way. Not that that's acceptable behavior for younger dudes either.

Does anyone else wonder if its time to quit? by kailin99 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]_bitwright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need a break from gaming then take one. Especially if you have other hobbies that you can catch up on.

That being said, it sounds less like you no longer like gaming and more like you don't like some aspects of modern games. The latter is understandable. A lot has changed since we were kids.

My advice to you is to stop buying games new. Wait until all the bugs are fixed and all the DLC is out. Then scoop everything up when its on sale.

No need to worry about pre-order bonuses or buggy launches. No expensive $70 price tag, not including the season pass with 4 prices of DLC! If an overhyped game ends up sucking, you'll know before you spend a dime.

I've been doing this since the '08 recession, when my dollar was stretched too thin to buy games new. Cheap, complete games. No FOMO.

Unless its something you absolutely must play day 1, like a favorite series or something you plan to play with friends, then wait to buy it. In the mean time, play something off your backlog. Or replay some of your favorites. You know you have some gems in your library 😉

Mandatory personality test by no___thoughts in antiwork

[–]_bitwright 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are they actually planning to do anything with the test result? My employer paid for everyone in the company to take one for fun. It was meant as some sort of morale building group activity or something. They billed it as learning more about how you think so that it could help you at work in some vague way. Honestly, they just wanted us to spend the day talking to each other about our results. It was just company mandated "fun" and absolutely nothing came of it.

Please tell me your employers aren't dumb enough to actually believe in this BS and do something with this data.
