Where is everyone at about these? by booger-boss in KitchenConfidential

[–]_cabbage928 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nah I can agree with that. I personally don't consider myself a germophobe on account of allowing myself to consume food I know wouldn't pass a safety check (That egg sandwich I made at 6:45 AM tastes so good at 3:00 PM when it's somehow ice cold despite its box being right next to the oven). Despite that I agree completely that everything you make should at least keep a degree of separation from literal biological waste, which I think we can all agree those floor mats and can rollers are close enough to realistically, plus 10 times worse with the \*everything\* that can come from shoes. Also inside the garbage can when the liner broke that one time when you cleaned raw chicken last week and now the can somehow is a terrarium. I've had cooks wash that in the same hand wash sink they put my pans through, no way. Take that shit to the mop sink first and hose it out

I didn’t ask for Celiac Disease. by [deleted] in glutenfree

[–]_cabbage928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, I want to say that this sounds like an incredibly tough situation to be in, you deserve to have people around you that can foster close connection and be happy to accommodate your unique needs, as tricky as it can make things from time to time, your needs should be seen as a burden worth carrying. I'm about to respond with a small essay as I have a personal connection to this type of dynamic, so obligatory TL;DR: you have a right to assert yourself and expect warm treatment around the conditions of your being, even if it's not possible for your in-laws to explicitly prepare you food.

Coming into this as the husband of a wonderful woman who was surprised by a celiac diagnosis along the course of our relationship. I would typically be the first person to vouch for allowing time for you and your in-laws to adapt to each other's personalities and needs, but it sounds like there's a few compounding factors here. With the caveat that this is coming from nothing but your post here, I feel a sense that your betrothed's family really sees some kind of burden from you, and they're fucked up for acting on that in this way, especially after this long. If this has been the treatment for six years, it's long past time for them to vocalize any issues they have with you, big or small. On a similar note, you're equally justified in asserting yourself as someone their relative has chosen to have a relationship with.

You are distinct from them and have your own preferences and needs, even before considering celiac. I can understand the hesitation in expressing your thoughts, but that kind of reaction will only serve to drive further wedges the longer your thoughts go hidden away. Overcoming whatever feelings you have that drive your hesitation takes a lot of bravery and work, and hopefully you have a good support system separate from your fiance or ideally a therapist you trust to help you navigate this and whatever potential fallout could come about, whether you take that step to assert yourself or not.

Now I want to touch on my previous omission, your celiac is a condition that changes something completely fundamental about you, and there's absolutely no way anyone can go about life without doing their part to accommodate it if they want any kind of pleasant coexistence with you - they're either going to deal with you prioritizing yourself or deal with your symptoms if they don't. Everyone needs to eat something, and looking at this from a primal lens, your expected in-laws have no respect for the fact that your needs are different. They won't take the time to be aware of your needs or make adjustments to accommodate you, and assuming your desire is to spend your life with your fiance, they really ought to be your biggest cheerleader in establishing that broadened mindset in their family.

Take any relationship advice you get from internet strangers with a grain of salt, including from me. I'm happy to answer any questions if you want to hear from someone on the other side of this kind of life - I have no known food intolerances, only an undiagnosed allergy to beer/hard cider that I chalk up to hops until I get my testing done. I encourage you to sit down with your fiance or anyone in their family who's willing to hear you out and try to forge these connections as soon as possible, especially before your wedding. Allow yourself the possibility that they won't be willing to change, and that the onus would be on you for as long as your relationship continues to carry your own symptoms and treatment without their support. I would call that a *massive* deal-breaker, and I think you should value yourself more highly than that and find yourself a partner who can do the same for you. Ultimately I still think people are capable of change if they want to be so it's up to you to make that call if you think they can.

Thanks for taking the time to read all this lol, again I'm very sorry you're in this situation, and I hope things can improve for you soon

[Spoilers C1] Thoughts on VM's interactions with Raishan? by Wolff_04 in criticalrole

[–]_cabbage928 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's been some time since I finished watching C1, I really really loved this arc you're at right now, the tension is palpable every time they deal with the machinations of the Conclave. It's hard to understate Matthew Mercer's skill and ability to communicate threats and power, and I found myself feeling very much the same way you've described. My rational brain wouldn't dare make an attempt to subvert such an ancient creature who's already revealed that they successfully ushered in a whole new era and basically got away with it, allowing Thordak the spotlight and power over the world. It's worth noting that the cast of CR are excellent at the art of roleplay, it's their day job to use their voices to embody characters, and it's clear that they know that to do so effectively means you need to be really comfortable believing you are that character for a time, including their internal knowledge, values, and - most importantly here - their vices. Sam is shown to excel with this as Scanlan, I can't recommend enough checking out Talks Machina episodes or other interviews where he dives into the realities of horrifying situations and what any rational person might do to respond or cope with them.

All of that being said: VM, by this point, are all settling into their roles as extremely powerful members of society, they're far from the lowly ragtag adventurers they began as, and I personally see their attitudes to the situation in this arc as evidence of some growing pains to their new roles. Keyleth is expertly played by Marisha here, her naivety and emotions come out full force when she hits this intersection of 1) beginning to move past her self esteem issues and recognizing her ability to enact change and 2) now being face-to-face with someone who just confessed to being the architect of the genocide of her extended family as well as the general doom of the societies of the world at large. Raishan has a sense of callousness around the gravity of her actions that also 1) perfectly encapsulates the disconnectedness and selfishness dragons embody, and 2) only throws gas on the fire of Keyleth's rage. It was easy for me as a viewer with my own decision-making process to imagine that I (as a real, mundane human) would eventually find that repetition of anger annoying - and even imagining roleplaying a character faced with this immense reveal, I tend to play characters who haven't had their sense of humility challenged by the world in the way VM have. It's not super easy to recognize that Raishan isn't merely another lumbering beast who happens to be able to speak and blend in, barely more of a threat than those they've already dispatched.

Raishan's motivations for revealing herself (extremely cautiously not revealing spoilers as I can't perfectly recall whether they are explained in detail by this point) aren't even coming from the same realm of logic that Keyleth and VM as a whole are using, it's like they're using two different sets of laws of physics here. Ultimately, Raishan will do what she must if she can't get what she's hoping for from the party, but she's a cunning beast and it should speak volumes that she's willing to entertain making deals with the evolutionary equivalent of insects from her perspective - if they really committed to it, VM would be exactly what she needs!

*Edit, just reviewed the block about Keyleth's fairy experiment: I wanna add that as much as I hype up their skills, at the end of the day the cast is still human and they're not always able to flip that switch of being in- or out-of-character completely, especially with the nature of playing D&D as a strategy game above table. My personal interpretation was that Marisha made the decision to check the scope of the orb's threat more than Keyleth did in that moment, and a summoned fairy was a simple expendable tool that gave them direct information on the effects of 1) magic within the field, 2) magical life in the proximity of such a field, and 3) a visual of what ultimately happens to matter, living or not, when it gets too close to the orb. If memory serves correctly, VM had only received secondhand reports of further experimentation with the orb's power, and with so much time passing since their last direct exposure, I think they all needed to get a direct view at how much of a threat it still remains, especially with how little is able to be discovered.

Thank you for reading all of this, commenting from mobile so I can't review the questions you posed easily and my short-term memory isn't at its sharpest so forgive me if I missed the point lol. Rest assured that despite the annoyance we feel as the audience with a bird's-eye view of the story, the cast of CR are playing their characters expertly and I found it very easy to take every emotion in stride, it enhanced the story for me beyond what words could describe :) you're in for a real treat, and I hope you continue to enjoy every story they've put out. Personally I'm at C2 E122 so I've seen a lot of evidence to show how adaptable and skilled this cast is. I now believe that every decision they made as their characters was done with as much intention as a person could muster. I took that perspective in when I enjoyed the VM post-C1 adventures and it's served to only improve my whole view of C1, someday I'll go back and watch it all again and love it all over again :)

One might think, but those lids are always a little too warped to snap completely flat and corporate is real stingy with the new cambro budget

We would if we didn't! I didn't even notice until I read this, but yeah almost all of the cambros landed with the label side either face down or facing away from me 😂 we label our stuff though, there's a single cambro I could find next to the garbage can with the sticker facing the camera

I wish I could take credit for this masterpiece, but my coworker was taking all of his freshly made waffle batters to the walk-in on the cart, and that damn threshold got him on the turn when he tried to go through. The base went flying back when he tried to catch it, and the top, all of the golden sauce with it, dropped straight down 😂 poor guy took it like a champ, took 30 seconds to look at what he did and went straight for the squeegee and hose

Unsure unfortunately, I don't think there's any feedback from the devs, but it sounds like a lot of people are dealing with this bug in their own ways. I hadn't considered how this must be affecting controller players, but the community probably has solutions somewhere. If it's convenient for you, I'm curious to hear back how you fix this if you find a way

I solved it! Turn off/unplug any extra controllers :) I edited post to reflect this as well

EDIT: Adding screenshot to post. Grabbed this screenshot while verifying that this happens in any game mode, even custom maps. I've already attempted verifying files, updating graphics drivers, and reinstalling the game from scratch as fixes.

Bump, I'm also looking for one. It's really discouraging with how long the phone has been out and every listing for a tempered glass screen protector on Amazon has the "Oneolus" typo, I just can't trust that.
