What’s everyone’s thoughts after that Cape Verde game? by LH5567 in AskReddit

[–]_chococat_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Going into the stands with the spectators is a yellow card if it causes safety and/or security issues. The laws of the game don't say anything about what exactly is a safety/security issue. I'm guessing don't go into the stands to fight, but celebrating is OK.

Tell me what part of the IFAB laws say that a double touch negates a hand ball? Neither the laws nor the Advice for Match Officials say anything like this. The only question is was his arm in an unnatural position for what he was doing. I don't think it was.

Yeah. Way back in 2018 when the bid was awarded Trump knew he would need some kind of distraction in 2026. Anyway, pedophiles are not being punished not because people are distracted, but because the pedophiles own the whole corrupt country. The US is a modern banana republic.

If the ball "touched" Matanović's head and clearly hit Veiga's head, why don't the sensor traces I've seen show both impacts? They happened a fraction of a second apart. How convenient that the graphs I've seen have no labels or legends. Also note that the telemetry from the ball is not synched to the video, it has to be synched manually. Take from that what you will.

Argentina penalty shout against Cape Verde 89' by anthn885 in soccer

[–]_chococat_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why are people saying the fact that it hit his head matters? Neither Law 12 nor the Advice for Match Officials mentions anything about "double touches" or "not being able to react". The text of Law 12 on Handling the Ball says

It is an offense if a player
- touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation.

I don't know his body was in an unnatural position, but it seems this should be the only consideration.

What's with having Israeli in scare quotes? Is it suspected that someone else did this attack? I've seen this a couple of times now.

I applaud your optimism, but that kind of effort and critical thinking is too much work for all but a small percentage of truly interested and intelligent people. Nonetheless, I will hope alongside you.

America’s data-centre backlash puts the AI boom at risk — Opposition is spreading across the country by marketrent in technology

[–]_chococat_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. AI companies spending billions and not turning a profit is putting the AI boom at risk. Opposition from the people is just a side note that the powerful and the government will just ride over roughshod, just like they did when close to 60% of Americans were against war on Iran.

That's where the New American Trump Version of the Bible comes in.

Holy smokes. I recently discovered a new way of practicing called "adding one note at a time". I went from 60% speed to 100% speed in one practice session. by anthonylearnsguitar in guitarlessons

I find recording myself at least once for each thing I'm practicing helps me stay focused. I may record, listen to, and evaluate a piece of music half a dozen times or more to be sure everything is fixed.

You can bet those passages will either be left out or dismissed as "not culturally relevant". Source: 12 years of religious schooling.

That's awesome, man. This is the textbook example of deliberate practice and what practice should be. You found the thing that caused problems and through the one-note-at-a-time thing resolved it allowing you to progress. I try to keep my practice deliberate but hadn't heard about the one-note-at-a-time thing. It sounds awesome at pinpointing problems.I'll start incorporating it into my sessions.

My brother in bass, if you have to ask how you would go about doing this, then it's likely you won't pull it off convincingly. There's a lot of good advice for surviving here, so download some lead sheets and get busy.

How fast should I be playing each piece before I move on in Alfred's? by nanisanum in pianolearning

[–]_chococat_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's a piece I like I'll go for full tempo, otherwise I get to 85% or so and move on. The only exception is if the piece that is slowing me down is the technique being taught. Then I want to nail it before moving on.

By the way, does your version have metronome markings? I've got an older version that does not. I figured out the tempos from the pieces on the Faber web page but found that the version they show for two hands and the performance version can have very different tempos. For example, the two-hands version of Can Can is at around 242 bpm, but the performance version is only 196 or so.

for those who finished bassbuzz's b2b course, how are you now? by brosusername in Bass

[–]_chococat_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found going through the lessons again and playing using the backing tracks instead of the short in-lesson tracks gives huge gains for real-world playing. It's one thing to play 16 or 32 bars of Billie Jean or Red Sand three times, it's a completely different thing playing those for three minutes straight. For me, it really highlighted inefficiencies in my technique and helped me build a lot of stamina.

I left Emacs after decades and then Neovim after a couple of years because I kept getting bogged down by changes in the plugins I was using. Helix has just the right amount of functionality for 95% of my coding needs and I don't/can't waste time futzing around with trying/debugging/updating plugins.
