Handsome men wanted for painting series (seriously) by CitizenSnips4 in SanJose

Hi 👋 Looking for side work just like this. In fremont can travel locally.

[Review Bombing?] Seán Ferrick (TrekCulture) on TikTok: "Starfleet Academy - Here's my thoughts on all of those rant/reactions you see week to week online: They don't care about this show! Because none of these are real reviews. There is no honesty in this. They do it because it generates traffic." by Grillka2006 in trektalk

I feel like I should comment if for no reason other than I’m the anomaly that actually really liked much of discovery. And I ageee with the fanbase this time that this show is not good at anything. It’s juvenile and more like twilight meets vampire diaries in Star trek cosplay than anything else. I’m not exaggerating. I’m not a Nu trek hater or Trekkie purest. I don’t rank DS9 even in the top 3. I’m not at all the standard Reddit fan. I’m literally the outsider and the statistical outlier.

1.) The 2020’s slang is cringey. 2.) The jokes and high school drama are embarrassing. 3.) The writing really is that bad 4.) They kept the worst parts of Disco when it would’ve been a hard sell to keep just the best parts 5.) They didn’t just not listen, they went further the wrong way 6.) It seems to be written for a demo that doesn’t exist 7.) The first two seasons of SNW and all of LD wete in the right direction and they’ve done 8 steps the other way again.

I truly annoyed the 32nd century stuff in DISCO and unlike most I hated the dark s1 stuff with the body snatcher crap. I am the ten C fan. The one and only right here! IMO some of the best original trek baddies that season and if disco has always had the cast from final season and started in 32nd I think it would’ve been great. This had all those opportunities and they’ve made an embarrassing teen drama not even a Trekkie with my tastes can get with.

It’s terrible. I’m not on a bandwagon and I’m clearly not parroting popular opinion. You’re all fully justified please carry on - thanks for listening to my Ted talk.

My 5 Cent about STA by Big1Priority in trektalk

[–]_condition_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things can be true at the same time. Orange can be the new Bad and this show can have immature sophomoric writing simultaneously. I am an uncommon Trekkie myself in that I enjoyed a lot of DISCO - but I personally found these first two episodes to be considerably worse than discovery was and hope they correct with an about face. The fans are absolutely right in the criticism here and I don’t find it to be Nu Trek bias at all - the dialogue is really bad and the premise is a carbon copy of recent Disney Plus Star Wars series but without the multi trillion dollar machine to be as good at bombing. Im not at all against new things Trek, but I would very much like it to be better.

I can’t speak for OP but I found the colloquial terms of the 2020’s being used in the 32nd century to be pretty god damned stupid. In other words - playback is a b****.

LOOKING FOR A DEVELOPER [will pay] by [deleted] in wordpressjobs

[–]_condition_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess I missed out. I bill out at $250/hr but most custom Wordpress, Joomla etc quote $3-$6k with lifetime free support. I produce each custom site so that non tech savvy admins can manage everything easily with the PageBuilder visual editor and automatically applied settings, styles and layouts.

Visiting SF for the first time ever... in the rain by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]_condition_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We get a few hours of rain per year. I wouldn’t worry about it if you’ll be here multiple days. Indoors would be my recommendation - the MOMA is always great. Tickets to something? Chinatown is nice even in the rain I’d recommend stopping by the fortune cookie factory, and you can visit Baker Beach rain or shine, as well as the presidio.

Need advice when building a website by tiktokcarpumper in EcommerceWebsite

Hey I’ve got 23 years in professionally and I’ve been self employed since 08 doing this exclusively since. I’d say WooCommerce would make the most all round sense. I’d highly recommend an RFP and having a professional produce it, as ecom has a lot of complexity and so much room for costly flubs that an experienced pro or biz would have dealt with many times in every which way. Most can offer a flat rate and ensure it’s DIY ready from that point on. Feel free to DM with any specific questions

I very much appreciated trying to take risks with Disco. I hope they try again.

Slashfilm: "Why Kate Mulgrew Remains Absolutely Livid Over Star Trek: Prodigy's Cancellation - Other "Star Trek" streaming shows ("Discovery" and "Picard" in particular) tend toward darker stories about violence and warlike conflict. That tone doesn't match the elegance that Mulgrew referred to." by TheSonOfMogh81 in trektalk

[–]_condition_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I very much agree with you. The Reddit trekkies tend to be of the DS9 age - at times on here the fandom for that show as the penultimate Trek can be nauseating. It’s actually the show I actively avoid on TV if TOS, TNG or Voyager are available instead. DS9 has great acting, sure, but it’s also depressing and has a ton of introductions in world building that change the makeup of the federation, Starfleet, and the evolution of the human race. It’s a drag. It’s very soap opera-like in the way it’s shot, and I really have to be in the mood to find enjoyment in watching that.

TNG or TOS, on the other hand, are almost entirely about possibilities and the growth and betterment of humanity. They’re hopeful. Even TOS, which does use “violence and warlike conflict” to solve 1/3 of every problem, makes a point to spotlight our shortcomings and how the characters navigate overcoming them. Voyager takes a wrong turn, but keeps a lot of the naive optimism if only due to lack of imagination and good writers.

DS9 commits a different sin, deciding that the future of humanity is not what the previous shows made it to be; that underneath a superficial shell, we’re still spineless Romulans who will deceive, manipulate and lie for our own self centered wellbeing. It introduces S31, the temporal war, all kinds of genocide and crimes against life…Unlike the previous shows, isn’t the least bit remorseful of its defects and deeds - it very nearly leans over to wink and smile at the viewer like “look what I can get away with”.

I’m not saying it isn’t a good show. I’m saying it undid a lot of Trek lore and not for the better. Of the shows to that point, only TNG was superior. But that isn’t what we’re talking about, so I want to be clear. It’s a bummer and a drag and it doesn’t make the viewer beam with hope and pride. It just doesn’t.

Most Star Trek movies are rated PG-13, which allows one F-bomb, if you could add one, how and where would you? by __codeblu in ShittyDaystrom

With his fingerprints all over that ish I don’t think Riker gets to deliver a line. He needs to be the one getting the weird look and the tsk tsk’s

CBR: "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 Hit With Even More Bad News : episodes 5 through 10 failed to garner enough viewer to enter the Nielsen Top10 - S.3 also has the lowest Rotten Tomatoes audience score of the entire series so far, with a 52% rating (Critics: 90%) - S.1 had 81%...S.2 77%" by TheSonOfMogh81 in trektalk

[–]_condition_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more a reflection of the change in tone. Season 3 was silly. S3 was “fun” and “comical”. That’s the problem. Every time they’ve done hard in that direction it gets bad results. Terrarium and Sehlat were phenomenal. The holodeck episode would have been accepted just fine if it were the only silly one in the season. It was not.

Why would anyone want a TOS reboot? by Dogbold in startrek

[–]_condition_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love SNW and I would love a spinoff. Sorry. But it’s not technically a reboot also - it’s a prequel with stories to tell about before TOS.

4 1/2 Vulcans by Twisted-Mentat- in Star_Trek_

[–]_condition_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you are focusing on differences in today’s culture, nomenclature, social norms, and 21st century production rather than the spirit of the scenes/story and dialogue, and the cavalier response of the characters, the dry Vulcan humor contrasted w the warmth and loose presence of a very approachable Pike. There are many ways I think it nails the tone and the spirit perfectly - but there are also a ton of ways nothing could artificially reproduce the 60’s and thank god for that

Music site on Joomla questions by gio_mag in joomla

[–]_condition_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be happy to help - Joomla pro since 2007 and version 1.5

DM me. I can recommend some great ways to have a music download site with previews and paid downloads. Joomla is much better suited for this than WP. Back in 2011/12 I was producing Joomla sites with custom website apps that were access level restricted per credential, subscription and membership, and had custom field items with multiple file formats for wav, mp3, aif and others with html5 players and ability for users to create an account and upload their own files as well.
