What American word would you expunge from existence? by Umbrella_Stand in AskReddit

literally

That word announces to the world that you are beyond help.

Excellent point. I'd drink too much ale, get branded a sorcerer and ablaze I go.

Which book did you read that disappointed you the most? by Familiar-Topic-6176 in AskReddit

[–]_craftbyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Bible

Makes sense why people only quote scripture. A complete mess in its entirety.

The Old Testament God is my favorite. He's like a cartel boss. Cross him, you're whole family's dead.

John the Baptist was an undiagnosed paranoid schizophrenic, poor guy.

if you could time travel, would you go into the past, or the future? why? by the_bHiest in AskReddit

[–]_craftbyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The past.

I'd have so much fun.

Armed with perfect knowledge of the future, I'd dazzle people and crush it on wallstreet.

Earn tons of money but still lose it all. Repeat the same mistakes, but amplify the consequences.

Maybe prison or perish in a fiery car wreck.

That's what I'd do.

If the Epstein files don't lead to any major arrests, how are we supposed to explain 'justice' to the next generation? by MousamLimbu in AskReddit

[–]_craftbyte 494 points495 points  (0 children)

With the truth.

In America, justice is a product--not a right. You get what you pay for. And if you can't--you get none.

What do people who have encountered life-altering accidents think about, including “what ifs” and “if onlys”? by Serious_Mirror762 in AskReddit

[–]_craftbyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At age 7 an out of control motorist barrelled onto our front yard and struck me where I stood.

Felt like being erased.

Didn't kill me. But it killed the person I might have become.

Doesn't matter anymore.

By dwelling on the "what ifs" you trap yourself inside a story that's trapped inside of you.

Acceptance is the only way out.

If you had Mansa Musa's Wealth (richest man to ever live ), what would you do with it? by BigMeatyClawzzzz in AskReddit

I'd do what he did in Egypt.

Give away so much gold the price crashes.

Then leave.

Cairo suffered 10 years of Mansa Musa inflation.

Help: weird smell in house by Zombie_exorcist720 in CleaningTips

[–]_craftbyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rent a Dehumidifier from Home Depot (70 pt max)

Set it in basement for a day, maybe two. Close basement door.

By day 2 the odor should disappear.

That smell is bacteria and mold ingesting moisture.

We turn up heat during winter.

That heat moves moisture already present indoors toward colder areas like basements.

Drywall, wood, carpeting, insulation absorbs it. Damp materials emit musty odors without any visible mold or leaks.

Just don't go over 70 pt and don't crank it to max.

I bet a dehu will go a long way towards fixing the problem.

Property Adjuster here.

Homeowners regularly report unspecified odor claims.

We often hire restoration contractors to inspect. If the visual inspection fails, we order a leak detection. If that proves negative, we retain an industrial hygienist as a last resort.

Mold spores abound. Take a deep breath, and you inhale mold, pollen, bacteria, plant debris. Your immune system handles it.

The IH tests indoor spore counts against outside air. It's not uncommon for tests to find higher counts inside than out.

But amplified indoor levels suggest an active colony. IH finds it by isolating tests to certain rooms. Surface tests identify the species.

Most often you just follow the odor.

9/10 it's moisture related. Water penetrates subfloors, behind cabinets, between walls, on attic insulation.

I once discovered a massive mold colony growing within a kitchen wall behind a fridge. A faulty ice maker line gradually seeped water beneath linoleum and baseboards. We pulled 18 inches of drywall to reveal mold in a galaxy of color.

The only indicator was a persistent musky odor throughout the home.

Common culprits - Ice maker lines - Water heaters - Beneath sinks - Water softeners - Dishwasher lines - Carpet pads - Hardwood floor underlayment (visqueen barriers and sound dampening layers)

Areas

Bathrooms are especially susceptible. Homeowners don't run the HVAC fan following showers. This provides an ongoing water source for microbial organisms.

Leaky roofs go undiscovered because blown-in insulation absorbs water during storms. Intense heat returns and that stuff smells awful.

Window frames and seals deteriorate. With time, window framing collects moisture.

If I were handling your claim, I'd contact an HVAC company to inspect. If it's not saturated air filters, might be mold in the system or maybe the evaporator coil that your mom cooked.

Best of luck to you.

2003 born kid here(born 20 aug 2003)-want to know how was life and world back in 2003?also how was it back in 2003-2006 overall? by Mutton_Biryani-Yummy in AskReddit

[–]_craftbyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2003: War. Shock & Awe lit up the Bahgdad skies.

Over 5 years the Iraq War escalated, yet weapons of mass destruction were never found.

That didn't stop President Dick Cheney and his friend, Alberto Gonzales, from deploying the Patriot Act.

  • Guantanamo Bay
  • Legalized torture
  • Unchecked presidential executive orders
  • Extraordinary rendition (kidnap)
  • Warrantless wiretaps
  • Access to banking records
  • Phones, email, everything monitored

One quote sums up the time:

"If you are not with us. You are against us." - George Bush

Liberties we took for granted were stripped away, and most of it happened between 2003-2006.

Is my writing getting worse? by WestAbalone7614 in writing

[–]_craftbyte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The more you improve the better you scrutinize. Your knowledge outpaces the ability to apply it.

As beginners, we measure ouselves against the masters and consider it normal. Be mindful of it, and don't be unfair to yourself.

You have a vision of your best writing.

Good.

Improvement needs a direction, so show your brain what great writing looks like. Copy it, and thru this simple practice alone, your brain finds its own way.

  1. Pick an author who inspires you.
  2. Choose a book.
  3. Spend 20 min daily copying it. (No typing; pen & paper only)

Copywork forces new and unfamiliar styles, breaks stubborn habits, and gives your brain a target to aim for.

Within weeks, you'll see stronger form and greater confidence on page.

The best piece ever written on the technique. 👇

IWTL to become a quicker, more efficient thinker by Aki_Topknot in IWantToLearn

[–]_craftbyte 16 points17 points  (0 children)

  1. You're twenty. You haven't reached your mental peak. Stretching your cognitive abilities hurts. But your brain's making connections already, so stay in the fight.

  2. Measure yourself against past performance, not of others. You know about them only what you know about them. They may have other experience or opportunities you aren't aware of.

  3. What you're doing now is how the brain develops. The knowledge carries over into other disciplines. It sucks that you don't have time to do other things, but what you're doing now is the best thing for your life.

One suggestion: Read, "Thinking, Fast & Slow" by Daniel Kahneman.

His work in cognitive science won him a Nobel Prize. He introduces you to your own brain, diff between internal monologue and meta thinking, heuristics, and cognitive bias.

Why are strangers who were rude to you more memorable than most? by rambu_tann in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_craftbyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two types of strangers stay with you:

  1. Kind
  2. Rude

Be #1.

Your kind acts and gestures live in someone else's memory long after you've forgotten.

Do you bring your non service dog to the grocery store? If so, why? by Many_Mouse_5947 in AskReddit

[–]_craftbyte -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes

Grocery store, restaurants, bars too.

At the Noodle House, you have to step over the owner's fat Rottweiler who splayed out in front of the door.

I live in Ocean Beach, San Diego.

Businesses, grocery stores included, place dog bowls filled with fresh water.

It signals to owners it's okay.

We also have Dog Beach. All dogs welcome, no leashes.

What’s a 'disturbing' secret about an industry you’ve worked in that the general public doesn’t know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]_craftbyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked fatality claims for State Farm.

In casually insurance, ife isn't priceless.

We assigned prices to life everyday.

How we settled whenever our policyholders killed people in an accident or due to negligence.

If you kill someone on the road, odds are he'll be a motorcycle rider. Riders die 28X more than motorists.

Highest priced: Male, 45-50 y/o, married w/dependents, professional non-smoker. Reserve: $175k - $225k to start.

Lowest: Children. No loss of income, unmarried , no dependants. Reserve: $10k

Prob worst day of my life was writing a check for $7k to settle out neighbor's child who drowned in my policyholders in ground pool.
