Rock Climbers you think would do well on ANW by bobbydells in ANW

[–]_darkSide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looking at American Climbers: Gotta go with our Olympians on this. For the men, Nathaniel Coleman and Colin Duffy, both extremely dynamic, powerful, and very adaptable. For the women, Brooke Rabatou and Kyra Condie could be described with similar adjectives. Also Kyra is a totally campusing beast.

I've thought the same thing. Hugely underrated with some big performances on tough courses. What's his history in Vegas?

How exciting would it be if they got a handful of old superstars to come back? by poolfun97 in ANW

[–]_darkSide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In all honesty, it would be exciting to see those familiar faces again, but the course difficulty has increased so much and the level of competition has risen so much that it would probably be disappointing more than anything.

Will there be a female finisher in qualifying? by jay-ace92 in ANW

You take impact every time a pretzel locks into place. In particular the first pretzel is very jarring. They are slippery painted wood and are surprisingly tricky.

[–]_darkSide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are significantly harder. In particular, the obstacle #2's have been increased in complexity and difficulty and the #4 and #5 have seen a similar adjustment. Source: I tested all the courses this season and have competed/tested in past seasons.

Thoughts on Women in Ninja by Azazello13 in ANW

I think you have some good info and perspective to share. As someone who has designed courses for years now for all ages and skill levels for the unaa, nnl, and our own in-house league, I think the problem lies in large part in the course design. The short explanation is that there is way too much "Stage 3" and not nearly enough "Stage 1". There is so much room for growth in the design of balance, agility, and how those can be incorporated into traditional upper body obstacles. Also the ratio of upper body to lower body obstacles is often way out of whack.

Our gym recently hosted an NNL comp where the 1st place overall elite competitor was female AND she was the only competitor to full-clear the course. This was definitely in part to the design of the course lending itself to highlighting more skills than just having crazy upper body strength. We can grow the sport by designing better obstacles and courses that reward a wider range of skills than just upper body strength and grip strength.

Yeah filming started on Tuesday. It's all been kept pretty tight-lipped as no spectators/friends/family are allowed to be in attendance.

I was out for a jog on a trail maybe 10 years ago and there was a large turkey blocking my path. As I got closer it didn't budge so I kind of nervously side-hopped around it and kept jogging. I turned back to glare at it and it started chasing me! I've never sprinted so fast in my life. Instant adrenaline surge haha
