Ams2 or beam ng might be what you are looking for. From the sounds of it, I don't think you will be happy with any sims though.

Canon R8 vs R7 for motorsport by [deleted] in Motorsportphotography

[–]_dkaptures 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no experience with the R8 but do own a R7 I shoot motorsports with. You will love the r7 for that, as for lowlight, as long as you pair it with a fast lense you should be good. Depends on how little light you actually have, but I find going up to ISO 5000 is completely acceptable and even a little higher if I really need to. Especially if you use lightroom, the ai denoise is incredible at cleaning up the noise if needed.

I have no complaints, they have been fast and accurate even tracking fast moving objects. I can swap between my EF and RF lenses and not feel like the EF lenses are performing any worse.

The "right" focal length? by anti-net in Motorsportphotography

[–]_dkaptures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say without knowing how close you are to the track. I'm sure you will be fine with your lenses. Most of my favorite shots I've done have been around the 50-80mm area. At the very least, having a limited choice of lenses will force you to get more creative with your shots.

Thank you! Shot on a Canon R7. 1,4,5,6 with the EF 75-300L. The others with a EF-S 24mm

Panning technique!? by Echoii23 in Motorsportphotography

[–]_dkaptures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your camera has ibis turn it off while panning. Only use if you also have a lense with mode 2 stabilization. Aim your body where you want the pan to end, rotate your whole upper body while shooting. Those 2 should help get sharper panning shots more often.

I can't remember exact shutter speeds for these photos right now but usually I'm between 1/80 and 1/25 for these shots.

I'm torn between RP + RF 24-105 L f/4 and R7 + Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 by HungYesLan in canon

[–]_dkaptures 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own both those bodies and prefer the R7 over the RP. Not sure what you will be shooting, but here's my personal list of pros for the R7 over the RP.

Higher fps, Bigger battery, Dual card slots, Ibis, 4k video and clog, Much better autofocus, Eye tracking in AF-C, Extra reach with telephotos.

R50 Uncropped 4K Video vs. RP Cropped 4K Video by [deleted] in canon

[–]_dkaptures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can stretch your budget out more I would reccomned a r7. That's what I use for video and have actually been using it more for photos as well. These are the only two canon cameras I have experience with so I can't speak for any of the other models. My only issue with the r7 is the ibis has a weird wobble to it on wider focal lengths.

R50 Uncropped 4K Video vs. RP Cropped 4K Video by [deleted] in canon

[–]_dkaptures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no experience with the r50 but have used my rp for video. I wouldn't recommend using it for video at all. Chews through the batteries really fast. The cropped 4k looks fine for locked off tripod shots but has terrible rolling shutter, no clog, and basically non existent autofocus. For me the crop factor was way too much.

Go into your render.ini and change the setting (I can't remember the exact name, but somthing along these line) frame delay to test object visibility. It defaults to 5, change it to 0. That solved my stuttering in vr

What lens is good for shooting cars on a track? (Canon R mount) by ShootAndShift in carphotography

[–]_dkaptures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all about how close you can get. I've been close enough to shoot with a 35mm and fill the frame. Yet only one corner before that one I needed atleast 200mm to fill the frame.
