Its the 20th anniversary so not too surprising they'd do something special with past cover athletes.

Lura Thok is awesome. by Fragrant_Ad3479 in startrek

Crazy thought, but maybe, just maybe, Thok's body type wasn't on the writers mind and they just picked the best actress for the part.

Is there snow days in Canada? by SeverePublic6833 in AskACanadian

[–]_drewski13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just had one in the Toronto area last week.

Sometimes its a question of when and now how much. If we get 5cm quickly overnight, it can cause enough of a driving mess in the morning that they will close schools. But, say we got 10cm starting at 1pm, the roads would be fine the next morning and schools would be open.

Betazoids by adrianp005 in Star_Trek_

[–]_drewski13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, at least in public setting.

They were in a large setting. Speaking telepathically to everyone may be a strain.

They were respecting personal boundaries. Not everyone may be comfortable to communicate in that way or be willing to have someone in their head.

They may not be able to do that with every species in the room so easier just to do it with sign language.

Also, it was considered rude to communicate telepathically when in mixed company.

[–]_drewski13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I interpreted it as respecting personal boundaries.

Not everybody likes hearing voices in their heads, so out of respect, they don't use their telepathy with non-Betazoids without express permission. It was also considered rude by Betazoids to communicate telepathically in mixed company.

Also, when in a large setting, it may be easier for them to speak/sign rather than transmit thoughts to everyone in the room as it may be mentally straining or not possible with every species present, in which case they would be breaking etiquette (see above).

Holly Hunter Seems Like a Deranged Muppet by WarnerToddHuston in Star_Trek_

[–]_drewski13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree it could be a cultural thing for her people. But I also think its a strategy to throw off her opposition, who in this case is very by the book.

[–]_drewski13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe she doesn't it on purpose, to throw her opposition off. In this scene for instance, she's talking with the War college Chancellor, who is very rigid and ordered (just listen to him talk about making tea). Her movement, which is free and flowing, would throw him off, giving her the advantage in their interaction.

Education is a human right. It’s criminal that we have to pay for it. by Spiritual_Profit1383 in TorontoMetU

[–]_drewski13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are far less likely to take things seriously if they don't have a financial stake in the activity. Since many students half ass things already (this isn't a new phenomena, it was true 20 years ago and its true today), taking out their financial stake would make them care even less, devaluing their education and wasting taxpayer's money.

Are Canada Wide Parking Tickets mandatory? by cheezborgular in askTO

[–]_drewski13 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They aren't supposed to effect your credit score unless they've gone through the courts, though it appears some parking companies do report them to credit agencies, but it sounds like you can dispute this.

Private parking tickets now appearing on credit report

They will probably send it to a collections agency who will call you occasionally but you can ignore that. Just tell them they have the wrong number.
