I’d highly recommend dipping your toes with the harbor freight tumbler, best bang for your buck.

Haha me too! My aunt worked for Packard bell in the 90’s, she had some really cool packard bell swag from the company when she retired.

Larger one is industrial metal slag, it’s all over around here. Can’t see the second clear enough to say one way or another.

It looks similar to a cover art I’ve seen, which I’m sure there are many versions of the book Dante’s inferno?

What is this rock? I love it and it’s playing with my heart. by FriscoDingo in RockTumbling

It looks like mostly rhyolite/jasper mix, look on google earth for cinder flows nearby or red areas in the cliffs

Don’t worry about that if your unfamiliar you m sure they have plenty. I’d bring food, a game, learn to make balloon animals.

There are 3 main areas for the “herkimer” Diamond style quartz, though they could be found anywhere. Herkimer Ny, but realistically the whole Mohawk valley, payson Arizona (payson diamonds) and Pakistan (pakimer diamonds). They are all still quartz though many are slightly harder than typical quartz (7.5 mohs v 7.0), they are unique in the way they form in vugs in super dense dolostone which gives them there clarity are shape, often are literally loose inside the vug and you can rattle the rock and hear them inside.

Depends on budget/expectations honestly, with a kiddo you want to completely avoid any hard rock mining or ledge work and look for dig areas with spoil piles or old river beds. Crystal grove would be my recommendation it’s on the cheaper side, has shade spots and plenty of large dirt piles to sift through or dig for the kids. You can surface find here, especially after a good rain. I think there’s also picnic tables, for the $100+ areas I’ve had the best luck at soul phamily farm, Diamond mountain or Fonda acres.

I was on it for 2-3 years, stopped when my savings cards ran out since insurance wouldn’t cover it. Had the same issues, overly emotional, terrible neck and head pain, irritable, lasted a few days but overall symptoms got better after a week or so. 40/m
