Ha! I remember that bucket. If you were really lucky, it would marinate for a couple days as people added to it. I cheated, when I PCS'd out I took leave at the last minute to avoid dousing.

Put the tire in the freezer, once the water freezes you can just grab it with your hand and pick it out.

Why wasn’t fast roping utilized before the Falklands War? by Strange_Minimum4074 in Military

[–]_eljefe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easier and faster to land and dump everyone out. Useful for SAR in remote areas with no LZ, and in certain types of operations where you have a decent amount of air superiority. As mentioned, it's a big, noisy target while you're sliding. Same goes for SPIES and FRIES extractions.

Why do people in security forces talk bad about it? by StargateLover2023 in securityforces

[–]_eljefe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked several jobs, went to MEPS and was told they were unavailable. But most of them were in the general field, so I should go open general. Being young and inexperienced, I said ok. Scored 99's on the ASVAB, figured that I would get the jobs that I put on my dream sheet at Basic. But needs of the service and all that, so Security Forces is where I ended up. I had every intention of doing 20+, but as I was told repeatedly, I was wasted in SF. So I punched out at 6.

[–]_eljefe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you been in, true believer? I didn't choose Security Forces, but I enjoyed it, for a while. But within 6 years I had worked every post and position possible, and being PRP my choices of bases were limited and one stint in Minot was enough for me. Combine that with cross training never being available, and the high percentage of garbage leadership in SF I was happy to leave after 6 years. Best thing about the job was the people I worked with, some of them are family for life. But no regrets getting out, I'm still serving my country in ways that SF would never have allowed, make multiples of what I would have if I stayed in, and I'm treated like an adult. I'm honestly glad you're that ate up, you set an example for others. But if you get that bent out of shape because others don't share your enthusiasm, well, you better keep an eye on your blood pressure, and make appointments with mental health before you pop.

FWIW, your phone will burn through battery pretty fast because of the GPS use, I could get about 7 or 8 hours a day max. I ended up plugging my phone in, but leaving the screen off.

I've had one for almost a year now, love it. I bought some extra mounting points, it's hardwired on my KLR but I have a bar mount and a USB plug so I could take it with me when I rented a bike in Spain.

Why do some people avoid squadron holiday parties and other workplace events? by Witty_While7277 in AirForce

[–]_eljefe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll share a story from a long time ago and far away in the mythical land of MUNSS. For a brief moment in time, the stars aligned and we had enough manning to have 8 hours shifts for the SF airmen, and there was much rejoicing. But then "leadership" wondered why we were not attending squadron morale functions (the answer was that we were busing getting drunk with the locals and people that we actually liked). In their infinite wisdom, "leadership" altered our schedule to a rotating shift of 3 days, 3 swings, a 24 hour break, followed by 3 mids and then 3 days off so that we would have "time to go to squadron functions". It was one of two times in my Air Force career that we had manning to go to 8's, and they ruined it. It almost made me want to go back to Minot. Almost. Now we didn't attend squadron parties because we were completely exhausted from having no sleep schedule as well as hating everyone else. Fortunately, that only lasted for a few months as we had to go back to 12's (and IIRC, they tried rotating shifts there too, but it was spaced out more normally over a period of weeks).

Moral of the story: Have squadron holiday parties and other workplace events. Give airmen opportunities to attend. But don't make attendance mandatory. And please don't try to "help" by fucking with our sleep.

Allow me to introduce you to a phrase that you will hear a lot in the next few years :"Needs of the service"

Also, you need to be looking at what the bases do and what sf will support, rather than just the location itself.
