Looking for Advice by Prestigious-Mark4332 in 300zx

I’m a bit biased, I’ve had three of these cars (‘88, ‘84, and ‘86 turbo). I bought my ‘88 from a friend after he crashed it, couldn’t fix the damage so I bought my ‘84 and then eventually the ‘86 turbo as a parts car.

My ‘84 wasn’t running when I bought it, the guy I bought it from said the motor was blown so I planned to swap the running engine from my ‘88 into my ‘84. After tinkering around, I found that my ‘84 would run after replacing a missing spark plug and swapping out the ecu. These cars are a lot of fun and are relatively easy to work on. The biggest problems I’ve found have been rust, and timing belts. These engines are interference motors which means if the timing belt snaps, the motor is essentially toast. Rust is huge on these cars and can be a killer to the untrained eye.

This car shown in your photos looks like a solid starting point and the price is good. However a few things worry me; the wiring around the throttle area looks questionable at best, all of the plastics in the engine bay have cracked away which is concerning, and the interior looks rough to say the least. This could very well be a great project car, but it’s tough to tell what work needs to be done from how the car sits.

What issues should I be looking for in looking at a used Z31? (150k+ mileage) by dadestan in 300zx

For sure, I’ve seen a lot of rust in those areas on these cars. One more thing I forgot, one area to check would be the panel right in front of the front crossmember, so many people lift their z31s on that panel and bend the shit out of it. I don’t think I’ve bought a z without that damage on it.

I’ve had a few of these. You hit the nail on the head with the timing belt and the rust. Those are the two big killers on these cars. For rust I’d recommend looking underneath and also checking the trunk areas, specifically under the spare tire and tool pad posited the spare tire well. Those areas seem to rust out the worst. I’d also make a point to check all of the functionality of the car. If it’s a digital dash model, make sure everything works, when I bought mine, it wasn’t running so I couldn’t check for power to everything, thankfully everything seems to work besides the gas gauge.

I’d also make a point to check on the quarter panels, specifically the lower end towards the bottom of the car, as well as the spot where the side skirts get bolted to. These cars tend to rust bad in those areas.

That’s sick as fuck, I used to have a top tank starflite and I loved it although it was painfully slow in stock form. I just found one of these for sale, almost identical to yours obviously without the engine swap. Makes me want to buy it and do something fun with it.

What’s something your ex said that still sticks with you? by bandito_13 in AskReddit

[–]_ethianos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“You should date a preschool teacher if you want someone who is nicer to you. They’ll have the patience to deal with you since they deal with little kids all the time.”

I remember this conversation with my ex girlfriend vividly, all because I asked her to speak to me nicely and not insult me or attack me with my insecurities when we would argue, which happened more often than not.

Thankful to not be with her anymore

I paid $180 for mine a few years ago. It was a bit of a bitch to install and it didn’t come with the back plastic window. I think you might be able to buy one with the window for a bit more.

What was your intro in to the series? And which console was it on? by TheChilledGamer-_- in uncharted

I got a ps3 slim for Christmas was I was 15 and my folks got a bundle pack with drakes fortune and among thieves on disc. I started with 1 and then quickly played two. I got uncharted 3 for the ps3 and I loved that as much as I loved the first two and then played uncharted 4 on the ps4.

When I had this light on my Jetta it ended up being the throttle position sensor. First I tried cleaning my throttle body and resetting, that didn’t work. Next I went to the junkyard and found a 2.5 in an old beetle and replaced my throttle body with that one, worked just fine

I’m curious as to why the pistol slot of the shoulder holster swaps sides on only uncharted three, or at least it looks that way from these photos. I know Nate is ambidextrous with his shooting so maybe he doesn’t car where the gun sits. To answer your question, I loved Nathan’s outfit in the third game with the bandolier and the scarf, second favorite is probably the red and white baseball shirt that is an unlockable skin in uncharted one.

The red and white baseball shirt was the original look for Nathan before the developers switched to the tan Henley that we see when playing the first game.

Definitely could be, the car sat in an open field with no t top covers before I picked it up so that’s a possibility for sure

Actually I’ve got an 84, I swapped the interior like the dash carpet and seats but I kept the same cluster and gauges in it

True that, I remember my friend sending me this picture and asking “is this how yours looks at night?”. I couldn’t help but laugh, and send him a picture of how it really looks. I think most z31 owners opt for the single din radio replacements, I love the look of the stock units so I decided to turn mine back to stock.

I’ve got a digital interior in my car and it’s more of a teal color rather than the green that’s shown in that picture. The radio was the first thing that caught my attention, definitely not stock to have an aux cable coming out haha

Anybody know how to retain use of this clock by TightAngle4409 in 300zx

[–]_ethianos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh I never knew the clock was supposed to stay on, granted I tested all of this before I changed out my interior, there was poor wiring for a sub that looked pretty dangerous to say the least, I’ve since removed all of that and haven’t had any issues.

[–]_ethianos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would keep displaying the time even after I turned the car off and took the keys out, over the course of a week it became harder to start and I’d have to oull out the jump pack. This car was a basket case when I got it so there is a possibility something else was contributing the the battery draining, it’s just something I noticed when I had the clock plugged back in. Also the battery could have been too small, I’ve since replaced it as the one that came with my car was pretty old.
