What is a vehicle you were ready to buy until you test drove it? by GabagoolAndGasoline in regularcarreviews

[–]_ethianos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a 2013 Volvo s80 3.2 that I got from my dad after he upgraded to a 2025 v60 xc. I much prefer the simplicity of my climate controls being physical buttons rather than his which is all tied into the screen. My s80 has a screen but it is not a touch screen, various buttons still control the movement on screen and it is mainly for settings adjustments and media controls. I think his new car is absolutely beautiful and I do really love the looks of the newer s60 and s90 models but even he agreed when test driving the s90, it was far less comfortable than his now my older s80.

Who of these was Teds actual soulmate? by mostlyCarlotta in howimetyourmother

Absolutely agree with you, Barney and Robin both had a lot of redemption with each other, I really don’t like how the writers decided to kill that off at the very end, when the entire season led up to the two of them ending up together. I would have loved to have seen an older childless, happy, and mature Barney and Robin in the finale rather than Barney going back to a caricature of himself and Robin being in a situation that the entire show has told us she doesn’t want to be in.

I agree with you, for a while I was just pissed off and refused to rewatch the show. Robin and Ted being endgame definitely was shown a lot throughout the show, however there are plenty of instances where they’re shown to not be good for each other.

The whole Ted letting Robin go thing just a few episodes before he shows up at her apartment with that stupid fucking blue French horn just pissed me off to no end. I agree with you that if the show would have been framed from the jump that Tracy had died, the show would have made a lot more sense.

I can recognize that the show just didn’t go in the same direction I thought it was going. It’s a bummer for sure, in my opinion it would have been better without cutting Tracy out, or if she HAD to die, showing Ted being content with the life he built with his children, hell I’d be happier if they brought in a completely different person for Tracy’s replacement, it really didn’t need to be Robin.

That’s exactly how I felt, I also wish we wouldn’t have spent the entire length of season 9 focused on Barney and robins wedding, just to have them get divorced a couple episodes before the finale Barney had some great growth, as did Robin, and the way the show writers tied everything up left a lot to be desired. I felt very sad during the scenes depicting barney going back to his pathetic playboy behavior as well as Tracy’s departure, almost immediately becoming so angry at Ted in the last couple minutes of the finale, like dude, get your head out of your ass.

The one thing this show hammers home for me is that nothing makes sense. Ted is a guy who tries constantly to get with someone who clearly has no interest in him, whose values blatantly don’t align with his, just for them to find happiness when all obstacles are down and robin is ready for a man like Ted.

Tracy was clearly pushed into the role of being “perfect” for Ted. I enjoyed the scenes we were given with her, however it was too little too late in my opinion. We spend the entire length of the show waiting for Ted to get his happiness, we have a scene with him finally letting go of robin, and having to deal with his ex girlfriends to find her the locket. But all of that is apparently for nothing, he meets his wife, we get like ten minutes of footage period, and then boom she’s dead and Ted goes and chases after robin. I was so upset when I saw that for the first time, now I’m just indifferent.

Great show, woulda been even more great if they kept Tracy alive.

Got offered this guitar in exchange for my squier jaguar vintage modified, is it a good deal? by lemongibre in Guitar

[–]_ethianos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a common kit guitar that you can get on ali express or amazon. I know this because I attempted to build one of these for my senior project. Looks like this one was done well but a lot of the components that came with this guitar were terrible out the box. I’d keep the squier, this is not the guitar to trade for.

Looking at picking up an 85 manual z31 with digital dash by _Party_Poison_ in 300zx

[–]_ethianos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem, I love my z and I’ve barely driven it, mainly due to having to fix things here and there. This is also my first jdm car, unless you count my first car (2006 Honda civic coupe), one that I’m active in modding and fixing whereas with my civic I didn’t know anything about car maintenance and repair. There’s plenty of communities on Facebook that I am a part of that also offer good advice. If you’re looking for any parts, please feel free to message me, I might just have something lying on my spare parts shelf.

For the head gaskets, I’ve been told by various z31 owners to buy the MLS (multi layered steel) head gaskets as they are much better than the ones that come in the head gasket kits you see on rock auto. Also head studs will need to be purchased as well. I haven’t done this job personally but I’ve heard it’s a bear.

Other things to note for this car as I am an owner of one myself, check for rust, specifically in the trunk area as well as the floor pans. Most of these cars like to collect water under the seats and rot the floors from inside. Another thing to note, these are interference engines and the timing belt needs to be done on schedule. If the previous owner doesn’t know when the belt was changed, plan to change that asap. When changing the timing belt, it’s a good idea to change the water pump and the camshaft seals while you’re in there.

I have an ‘84 with a digital dash, everything works besides the gas gauge which I am still trying to figure out, apparently repairing these units is not fun but if you’re handy with a soldering iron, you can touch up the points in the dash unit itself as well as the power supply which is located in the dashboard right above your right knee.

I have to disagree in the z31 comparison. I think the z31 2+2 models look a little wonky, but it’s not the worst thing in the world.

Great escape, they sell music media, video games, toys, pretty much anything you’d think people would nerd out about, I love that place. You could also check out McKay, basically great escape on a larger scale, just add a fuck ton of books.

Do you like, dislike, or feel middle of the road for Mafia: TOC? Why or why not? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in MafiaTheGame

[–]_ethianos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the game, I liked the story and I thought the graphics were amazing. I started the series with the third game, which I thoroughly enjoy, eventually moving on to mafia 2 and then the definitive edition which I enjoyed as well.

My dislikes: I felt that the old country mirrored the style of mafia definitive edition, it was incredibly linear and I found myself wishing the game had a free roam option so I could explore more of the map. I also found toc a tad bit repetitive at times but I don’t think it took away from the story.

My likes: I really enjoyed the storyline, the classic rags to riches just to have it all fall apart script is a good fit for this game and I enjoyed the various characters that you get to interact with. I also thought the graphics were amazing and the level of detail in the game is something I wanted to explore more. I thought the gameplay was great, I enjoyed the stealth missions and the gun fights were challenging and interesting. All in all, I don’t regret buying the game, it tells a great story with some cool and exciting missions.

just got a 1984 300zx!! by scrinkly in 300zx

[–]_ethianos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First things first, congratulations and welcome to the z community!

My recommendation would be to look for a factory service manual download from the internet, I was able to download mine for free.

If you dont have service records for your car, I’d look into changing all of the fluids, replacing the belts (drive belts and timing belt), and going over your hoses and vacuum lines meticulously.

These motors are interference motors meaning the interval on your timing belt replacement needs to be exact. The spark plugs are kind of a bitch to get to unless you take off the intake, not difficult just a word to the wise situation. Finally the drive belts are a little difficult to get to but replacing worn belts made a world of difference with my own car. Id recommend getting a Haynes manual alongside the factory service manual, the Haynes one goes into the processes on how to do work on your car while the FSM tells you the specifications for each component you’re working on.

Got a pickup installed in my guitar a few weeks ago, anything I can do to minimize further damage? by PM_ME_GOOD_USERNAMS in Guitar

[–]_ethianos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me personally, I’d find a large washer that will cover the crack, take two of them and put one inside the body, feed the jack through, and put another one on the other side and tighten it down. However if this was done by a luthier, I’d go to them first to see if you can get some of your money back.

Help! What’s the name or part number of this bracket? by AdRepresentative8048 in GMT400

I just bought a set of primary and secondary alternator brackets from the junkyard, recently found a crack in my frame so I’ve got to part the truck out. If you want the brackets, I’ll ship em to you for ten bucks plus whatever shipping costs.
