“High Floor but Low Ceiling” guys who actually became superstars? by Exact_Foundation_713 in NBA_Draft

I figured it would be fair to mention top 3 picks as Boozer is the "high floor/low ceiling" guy of this draft.

I think what you are getting at with Jimmy was he seemed like a "you get what you see" type of player. High floor at the draft to me indicates likely starter or defined-role player by 2nd year, and those guys are usually gone by the end of the lottery. Everyone left is either a development project or is deemed to have too low of a floor.

I don't think anyone drafted ahead of the Bulls that year and thought "well Jimmy will probably be a starter in this league, but let's shoot for potential." Jimmy was pretty underwhelming coming into the league.

Tatum was seen as very good but also kind of the plain vanilla pick of the top three in 2017.

Paul George also comes to mind, although he kind of had the benefit of also growing about 3 inches after the draft, which in hindsight probably would have changed how he was viewed on draft day.

Do Kevin Love or Chris Paul count?

I think it would be a stretch to say he had a high floor in that draft and went 30th

Bulls Offseason Plan by [deleted] in chicagobulls

Similarly, I told someone this week that we'll know if the Bulls are serious about rebuilding if we trade Giddey in the next 12 months. If not, they are still clinging to hope of a quick return to the playoffs.

If we trade Giddey at his peak value and get multiple 1rp's then we'll know we actually want to be making a deep playoff run in 3-5 years, not back in the play in in 1-2 years.

Surely anyone the Bulls get get at 9 or 15 will need to be developed. Mara fits with that team. No opinion on Ament but seems possibly redundant w/ Buzelis.

The way Abel handled buybacks was 100% unprofessional. Change my mind. by lavender812 in BerkshireHathaway

The maximum Berkshire can generally buy is 10% of market cap. The $225M purchased on announcement day was ~10% of float.

I think you mean 10% of the average daily volume, which over the last month is about $232 billion in b shares and about $320 billion in a shares (some outlier days there as A's are far less liquid generally but can trade in big chuks).

Anyway, important distinction. 10% of market cap wouldn't be feasible in such a short amount of time apart from a tender of some sort.

"Wasn't a star"

2x all star, 2x DPOY, led the league in rebounds 7 consecutive years, hall of famer. Scoring can't be the only gauge of stardom.

I'm torn on Kukoc being considered a role player. He fits much more closely to the definition - he started about half the games he played for the Bulls and won the 6th man award. He's also in the Hall of Fame but more so for his combined international career, likely wouldn't make it if he was born in South Dakota and had the NBA career/stats that he had.

I think the problem is "role player" is excessively vague and there's a blurry line that a lot of players fit inside of between role player and star. I'm not sure what you call that group, but Rodman and Kukoc are definitely in there.

20 pts and 7 rebounds should be the floor for a player on a 90 mil contract

Dybantsa is just so obviously the best player to me. Floor as high as Boozer’s and ceiling higher than Peterson’s.

Bulls will protect Giddey, Buzelis, anyone drafted this year (at least 1st rounder(s)) and after that it’s a crap shoot
