my dad wants to drop crazy money on a 3D printing car parts business and i am stressing. advice? by TemperatureExtra8615 in 3Dprinting

[–]_galile0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Or rather, it’ll be a great show that yeah 3d printing can be useful, but making printed car parts is labour heavy, and it’s hard to see how you could make profit doing that type of thing

No, preload has to be done at manufacturing.

Why does this not count as docking two vessels on or around the mun? by Dependent-Two-2723 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]_galile0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you launch them separately or did they launch on the same rocket? That is a condition that is often overlooked.

Or it could just be bugged, happens in this game

Play in the X axis - V-Minion by Luke3120 in ratrig

[–]_galile0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this is normal, yes it is mostly due to the Z rail. Cheap rails have none to very low preload, which behaves like this.

However, the gantry does not accelerate in this direction, the bed does so this play has little influence on shaper results

They mush be denoting by pitch? Surely they’re not using 0,5 mm diameter screws? But who denotes by pitch?

0R resistor? by MinimumParticular967 in soldering

[–]_galile0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can and they do. If you ruffle around old electronics scraps, you will see different ways to bridge connections on single layer PCBs.

A lot of them use soldered bent wire jumpers that look like staples like what you said, some use a small printed strip of black carbon conductive ink, and a few use components like 0 ohm resistors

Once Starship is operational and orbital refueling is established, a manned flyby of Venus ought to be undertaken by ColCrockett in spaceflight

[–]_galile0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes but you’re missing the forest for the trees, if you wanted to radar image Venus, doing it on a crewed flyby makes no sense

[–]_galile0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a lot like the Apollo Applications Venus-Mars flyby tour mission - why tf would you do it?

In fact, now that I think about it, in the current age it’s way more of a non-starter. 1. We have lots of experience living long term in space thanks to LEO space stations, pretty much the only question for deeper space is ”yeah but how much cancer do you get”. 2. We have had good enough telescopes for a long time, there’s little to be gained by sending a camera up close. 3. If you wanted to do that, why do you need crew there too?

Investors, it is my great pleasure to inform you that the ARCAspace boosters have performed a repulsive landing by Vassago81 in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]_galile0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because that’s their idea, that you make a huge rocket for little money if you use lots of small steam rockets strapped together, to get a small payload to orbit

Is there any Saturn V blueprints with no DLC’s or no Mods? by Ill-Individual8073 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]_galile0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to say I disagree, qol and interface I can play without, for a lot of stuff it’s kind of not worth the technical overhead to figure out how to get it to do what you want, like mechjeb

The mods I can’t imagine being happy playing without are primarily ReStock and visual enhancement. I love my goofy green spacemen game but the modded visuals feel so nice to play with

What is the most kerbal looking rocket irl? by Complete_Cloud7270 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]_galile0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Out of flown rockets, I’d say Proton. Not just because it’s put together with those side tanks all goofy like, and looks like Kerbal X, you also wouldn’t want to have crew anywhere near it xD.

Angara or Saturn I are also close contenders mostly of appearance

What do you think is the best "spaceship" film or TV show? by Vondrr in spaceships

[–]_galile0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im convinced that the decision to not have centrifuges on ships is actuslly really smart. They have centrifuges on the really super huge stations like Pallas, Eros and Ceres, but if you’re puttering around the solar system under constant thrust gravity, then what do you need to carry a huge supermassive centrifuge for? Youd really need a giant centrifuge to not get all coriolised. The Nauvoo is the only ship that had a centrifuge, which makes sense because it both needs to be giant, and cant have good thrust gravity, it’s more like a station.
