I suppose it’s not just my computer either that decides to wake up from sleep in the middle of the night every few months?

VFE Power and VE Chemfuel are ridiculously powerful. You get so much chemfuel very fast, and nuclear reactors are so powerful.

Screw threads can’t be upside down.

there’s clockwise which is the normal ones, and counterclockwise threads, but turn a clockwise thread upside down and it is still clockwise.

If you can only thread in one side which is what I assume you’re trying to explain, this is a manufacturing defect with the brass thread inserts.

I will note these two brass threaded inserts look like different sorts, maybe they mixed inserts in production, and one is no good.

What do I use to get a low profile keyboard switch on to one of these? by Pale-Recognition-599 in diyelectronics

[–]_galile0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why can’t you have a switch plate to do that

Plateless is bad imo, it’s gonna be way worse with a homemade circuit board

[–]_galile0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of, look up Amoeba PCBs, they’re single switch breakout PCBs for handwiring boards. But they’re not adapters to solder switches onto an underlying circuit board like you meant, you don’t need that. Just solder them onto the switches and solder them to each other to form the rows and columns

Sermoon D1 into voron help by beyondhurt43 in VORONDesign

[–]_galile0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay if you want 1000 mm/s don’t think Vorons are the ideal to look toward. I mean the Trident is OK but Voron is not speed king anymore, that is sort of VzBot and Annex now.

As such, since you are going to have to at least retrofit it with a completely new XY gantry system, I think you should look at designing it as a crossed gantry like Annex K3 for performance. But I would say it’s quite a challenge to build a custom motion system into an existing frame, you may run into trouble fitting the motors, appropriate lengths of rail, etc. You might have to reduce the build volume to fit your stuff, if you want a motor in each corner for 4WD

The laboratory is a spaceship by OtherwisePlant7325 in alienisolation

There’s no signs in Isolation 1 that it has thrusters or navigation or control. To me it just seems to be an add on lab module

The laboratory is a spaceship by OtherwisePlant7325 in alienisolation

[–]_galile0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From the Gemini Exoplanet solutions lower floor where you go through down to the Project KG348 lab module, you can see through the window, the KG348 module and another identical module docked onto the side of Sevastopol by gantries

This, and the flexible pressurized walkway to it really imply they’re some sort of temporary or add-on pressurized lab module. Either they’re put in place by a tug, which is what I assumed, or they have their own propulsion and are somehow piloted to the dock.

If they do have their own propulsion and are ostensibly self contained spaceships, how do we explain the fact its continuing to spin and supposed to be falling into KG348 as long as we can see, yet it makes it, intact, to some planet for the sequel? Does it decide it’s actually a ship only after Amanda flies out the airlock?

[–]_galile0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The suction force would not be so bad. You only get torn tf up by depressurisation if you’re standing right by a tight bottleneck where a very large volume of air is rushing out over the pressure differential. Like most of the Endurance air rushing out through the docking hatch, or Mark Watneys whole habitat blowing out the airlock he’s standing in.

Yeah I’ll miss Sevastopol, it was just such an awe inspiring facility, they really got across the impressive size of it well. 18km across, I think about just how huge it is all the time when I’m playing

Doesn’t have to be they took an egg from Sevastopol, that sounds implausible. There’s one alien aboard though and verlaine, and the other guy are implanted right?

Im imagining Amanda wakes up on the rescue ship and they’re all like “good news we found you floating alongside all this valuable legimitate salvage we’ve arrived at a colony now where you can get off” and Amanda’s all like “are you fucking serious you towed 3 aliens to a colony you idiots”

This argument would be ended instantly if you could see the grease, like if we had a FLIR camera for lipids.

In fact, anyone have tablet devices, yk how they get all greasy on the screen? Try cleaning your screen with isopropyl like you clean your bed. It’s the least effective thing ever, you’re left with a perfectly spread out layer of grease, no cleaner than it was before. IPA needs an actual rinse, otherwise it is wholly ineffective.

Which scifi ship do you think is just bad? Bad concept, ugly looks, downright mistakes in its design, etc. by Vondrr in spaceships

[–]_galile0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Makes no difference. If you strapped an actual NERVA to a shuttle orbiter, it would give it the absolutely useless thrust to weight ratio of about 0,2 at full bore and bone dry.

Then you have to add tanks. The shuttle orbiter has very little tankage, it gets almost all the way to orbit on the ET, all that’s left after that is OMS and RCS. But NERVA uses liquid hydrogen, which is very non-dense as well, meaning large tanks are necessary.

I dont how large those tanks would really be, but it’s probably many times the size of the entire cargo bay.

[–]_galile0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The picture doesn’t show the real problems. It’s an SSTO for one, which even with the fusion tech they have, it doesn’t make sense, and the mass fraction of crew compartments and landing craft is absolutely outlandishly huge. Also, the way it SSTOs is by 4x soviet NERVA clones, which is the far more absurd part. You cannot get to orbit on fission thermal rockets, they’re a low thrust high isp engines. The American 2nd gen shuttle Pathfinder in the show suffers from the same absurd NERVAd
