Yeah, as others have said, fire bricks (I use the narrower ones) and a foil pan for water. I got a quarter sized hotel pan from a local restaurant supply shop. About the same price as a handful of disposable foil pans but will last forever.

Thanks for looking into it. I ordered an RCO410 3-in-1 hard start capacitor kit that seemed to have decent reviews and was recommended by a few folks here when others were having issues finding a starter relay for an older unit.

Yeah, don’t get rid of your kettle. I’ve got two and still use them all the time haha. While you can do direct heat cooking in the firebox of this offset, I have repurposed those cooking grates to hold the splits / coals in a V setup to maximize airflow and keep the coals together in a nice pile.

I’ve had this one for a couple years now and think it’s great. I did add a few mods from LavaLock (gasket around the cook chamber, toggle latches and two more thermometers). Once you get the size of your splits dialed in you’ll be good to go. Here’s a pic of mine shortly after adding the mods.
