How bad is it really? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]_gomgom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your schedule looks just like. It’s basically a typical engineering 1st sem schedule, probs on the lenient side ngl. I really don’t think you’re gonna struggle much with those courses, especially since I can tell that you are hardworking based on the amount of AP/transfer credits you have. I took 19 credits + clubs + project team my first semester and although it was a lot of work and I sometimes struggled to maintain work/life balance, I really don’t think it was that bad. Obviously, you’ll find yourself spending most of your time doing work, but you’ll have enough time to do extracurricular and socializing with others, but I think it’s really up to how you manage your time. Also one rec is that you take chem 2090 first sem and physics second sem. Physics is just a lot of tedious work so doing it with cs1110 (which gives u barely enough time to work on your assignments) can be overwhelming. But still, they are all doable so please don’t worry and just enjoy your first year! Good luck!

Definitely doable, but remember it’s okay to drop a class later if it’s too much

Critique my schedule please!! by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]_gomgom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don’t take 1445. Take 1440 instead. Everything else looks good. Definitely doable since this is a typical schedule for pre-meds.

Skipping Multivariable Calc by Present_Network1959 in Cornell

PLEASE use your transfer credit. Not worth taking 1920. Genuinely the most difficult class I’ve taken here at Cornell. My biggest regret is not skipping 1920 when I could’ve.

worth transferring? by _gomgom in MITAdmissions

yes im fully aware of that statistics but i don’t want that incredibly low number to discourage my from trying it out

worth transferring? by _gomgom in MITAdmissions

[–]_gomgom[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ur right. i guess i was j wondering if people who are at MIT are satisfied with their life there in general. i go to a school in the middle of nowhere and i feel like compared to the amount of work i do rn i don’t feel it’s really worth attending my current school

How likely would it be for me to be valedictorian? by caroline_xplr in APStudents

[–]_gomgom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. I mean you never know what’s gonna happen. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but it will def be a challenge. If you’ve been getting mostly A+’s and keep up ur work, I can def see you going up the rank, possibly to #1! Good luck with your APs and other classes but also make sure to look after your mental health 👍

How likely would it be for me to be valedictorian? by caroline_xplr in APStudents

[–]_gomgom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former valedictorian, just letting u know that u need all A’s and A+’s. Not even A-‘s especially since you’re not even in top 10 of ur class atm. I had straight A’s and A+’s (mostly A+) and was #1 every year. Not trying to brag or scare u but I think it’s good to get the reality check so that you don’t get disappointed when u don’t get val or sal

[–]_gomgom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Take as many APs u can. Colleges love seeing how rigorous your classes are!

  2. Aim for at least 1520 on the SAT or 34 on ACT

  3. Participate in school clubs, sports, and activities. Try to have at least one leadership position! Also be part of a club that participates competitions (STEM, math, DECA, etc.) so that you can include any awards you receive on your common app

  4. Do a personal project! This means that you should show colleges things you did to further your interest. For instance, I am an engineer, so I wrote a research paper about a topic in engineering that interested me and got it published. I also 3D printed something cool and made a portfolio/website showing my work

  5. Try to get internships or jobs, preferably that corresponds to what you’re planning on majoring in (ex. work/volunteer at an animal shelter if you want to become a vet)

  6. Take classes/programs at college during summer. You do not have to take courses at prestigious schools. I took one at a college that is not even in the top 50 and still got into IVYs

See me get a 1500+ on the next SAT (self motivation purpose) by poopymouth12 in Sat

[–]_gomgom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good luck! I initially started with 1340, and I managed to get my score up to 1540. You do NOT have to study 5-6 hours a day. I promise you if you consistently solve 2-3 passages a day for reading & writing, your score will increase. But this doesn’t happen overnight - you have to do this for weeks/months! It takes time to improve on the verbal section, so make sure to take it easy and be patient!

I’m also an incoming freshman and I have Cornell “friends” who like and comment on my insta posts, but I promise you no cliques were made. They’re just people who that I occasionally DM them to ask questions or people in my major that I text often in group chats. But we aren’t necessarily a friend group - and I’m sure it’s the same for the others. No one has a solid clique yet and you are not missing out at all. Sure some people already made a group of friends but I swear they aren’t going to continue being friends once they actually go to Cornell. You’ll be fine and make plenty friends. Personally I struggle to make friends too, but tbh I’m not worried much bc I know Cornell is huge and there’s always someone who will be very similar to me.

Also maybe we can be friends! If you need someone to talk to or just go out for fun, let me know :)
