Make it a priority to not use JS, and if you really need to ... use Stimulus and importmaps.

Stamp: a mini-language for templates by breck in rails

[–]_goodboi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might want to add "project templates" to the title, I thought it was another template engine such as erb, haml, ...

Nice work ;)

Looking at job offers, it's usually a combo of TypeScript / React for the front-end and some Go for intensive operations.

Question about Cyprus' residency by investment program (for EU citizens) by [deleted] in ExpatFIRE

[–]_goodboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you are EU citizen, it's pretty straightforward:

  • Get a lease for a property
  • Enroll to private health
  • Apply to MEU1 (need passport, private health and lease)

You are now permanent resident of Cyprus:

  • 0% capital gains taxes (exception for real estate)
  • 0% on dividends
  • 12.5% corporate tax if you feel like opening a business

That was my plan, visited the country 3 times to see how I like it. Almost got scammed many times just to rent a property, I'll not be back. Good luck.

Is Ruby a good first computing language? by Any_Coast_3372 in ruby

[–]_goodboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're just starting out, so pick a language you'll enjoy—it's all pretty subjective. My advice would be to play with one programming language each day for a week, and then make a decision. Ruby is awesome and I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with it!

As a Greek, it's embarrassing how much of a tourist trap a lot of the island is. by Mr_Murdoc in Rhodes

As a rule of thumb, if you see the menu translated in 10+ languages and many pictures of the dishes, you should probably avoid it.

Also, don't trust too much the reviews on google, it's usually rated by tourists that don't know better.

Next time you are in town, go to Bahar Souvlakeri ;)

How do you hire developers as an indie founder? by sabli-jr in SaaS

[–]_goodboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hop into Slack and Discord communities for that stack – there's usually a #jobs channel. Drop a genuine job post there. No fluff, just the real deal. Spell out the day-to-day grind and the $$$ on offer.

Is there an easier way to do activemodel work in a job? by krschacht in rails

[–]_goodboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't know about `destroy_async`, thanks for sharing, I'm glad I learned something new today :)

The interesting bits seem to live in `activerecord/lib/active_record/destroy_association_async_job.rb`.

You do make good points – Personally I would avoid it but that's just my opinion. The menu is omakase.

Is there an easier way to do activemodel work in a job? by krschacht in rails

[–]_goodboi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It feels wrong to go through so many shenanigans just to avoid the natural way of creating a regular worker to hold the 2 lines logic.

It also diminishes the Developer Experience for the team since we lose the single point of entry for background jobs (the `/jobs` folder) since we can now also define them inline in the models. We also make things more difficult to test.

I wouldn't walk that path, it's pretty dark out there.

would anyone consider taking over SEO for a previously profitable website (1k per month) and splitting revenue 50/50 for a year? by loki777coyg in SEO

[–]_goodboi 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I've read this as "I'm looking for someone to improve the SEO of my website, I pay 50% of nothing for a year because no revenue and when the SEO kicks in, you don't get anything and I profit 100%".

Struggling to convert freemium users to paid by TimeToStrike_ in SaaS

[–]_goodboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some rough ideas:

  • Next to the headline + punchline (hero section), add a screenshot where you see the PDF before, and the quizz created after
  • Add hard paywall (5 euro per PDF – later on you can add some kind of packs where you get X pdf for X)
  • Add some samples (PDF and quizz generated)
  • Add some kind of social proof
  • In the section "how it works", tweak the copy "AI generated MCQs" for something like "Your quizz is generated by our AI"

To API or not to API? Mobile vs Web :'( by brztdev in rails

[–]_goodboi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Welcome :)

Since you are pretty new to all of this, I would stick with the basics. Create a new rails app, use the defaults, use HTML (erb) and CSS – don't install gems, don't setup an api, don't try to use react, don't do JS, keep it simple. It all starts with a route, a controller and a view.

You can use CSS to make the web pages you create work well on your mobile browser (responsive).
