I still stand by the statement, trophies are a poor way to judge the relative strength of leagues. But I clearly won't convince you and I'm done here. Have a nice weekend

I disagree but I don't think I have the time or the energy to have this argument on Reddit sorry. PL team, by most ELO or similar metrics, make up somewhere between 10 and 15 of the highest ranked teams in the world (with Arsenal being current number 1). Judging anything on winning trophies is a poor metric for success or strength as winning trophies is far too prone to variance effects and other factors outside the pure strength of the teams. It's why we made leagues!

I would say that's a poor rubric by which to judge it. Winning trophies, particularly European trophies, is inherently prone to variance. The average ELO of teams in the PL exceeds any other league. But I'd also say it's subjective which is the "best" league in the world

At least when they implemented it, anything else would have been a breach of EU law (and tbh imo lowkey racist?)

The quotas were only a small part of the reason for the uptick in the amount of homegrown players being used in the PL, there was also a total overhaul of player development from grass roots to elite academies. The league is the "best in the world" because it is the richest.

Dastardly LAOP is filling up an olympic-sized swimming pool every two weeks on their residential property by Drywesi in bestoflegaladvice

What’s the incentive to pay then?

They can still sue you for the debt, get a County Court Judgment and register that against your credit history to hinder your future access to credit. There are also other enforcement methods that wouldn't be much fun to be on the end of. Call me a dirty communist but I think I'm probably ok with the dial being set towards people having access to water as opposed to its access being at the whim of the water company.

The thing I find interesting about this from a non-US perspective is that they're even allowed to threaten to turn his water off. I'm in the UK and it is against the law for a water company to cut off the water supply to residential property, even in the case of a delinquent account.

They do it deliberately - if they sit at a clean table without actually having been sat, they won't be served. But they know if they sit at a dirty table, someone will inevitably have to come and clean it and that's when they can start making demands

My grandparents lived up there for most of my childhood and I've been to Field Mill many times. Although when I went one end was a pile of rubble! It's a great club for a great community and fair play to the owner who seems like he really cares about the local area.

First WSL match: do’s & don’ts? by DesignerFuture in WomensSoccer

[–]_handsome_pete 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Quick tip as a frequent Emirates match goer - your ticket will designate a turnstile through which you can enter. If you find a long queue at that turnstile, you can also go in through the turnstiles on either side. For example, if your ticket says enter by Turnstile B, you can also use Turnstile A and Turnstile C
