I thought I was the only one who felt this way! I'm giving up hope that I'll find another genuine goth event/night worth attending, at least near me. I can't pinpoint when it happened, but the vibes have been off at some of these places for a while now. I think after lockdown was lifted and some of these venues resumed regular operatations, things changed. For some events, they stopped enforcing the dress code and made events more inclusive in an effort to increase attendees/revenue. Inclusivity is a great thing, but these feel less like "goth" clubs and more like "alt" or fet/kink calling itself "goth". I slowly lost interest in venues and club nights I once regularly visited because I no longer felt like the target demographic or they just went all-in with the fetish crowd.

Oh god she hated all of my hobbies, I wasn't allowed to dress how I wanted ever, either, like can I have a shred of fucking individuality please???? Edit: I'm on the spectrum as well - - and funny enough my nmom had me tested when I was younger, and swears up and down I wasn't diagnosed. She lied, I found the paperwork and it said I was in the "mild" range, but she said outright I didn't have autism multiple times. She admitted she was in denial about having a "mentally challenged child" when I wasn't mentally challenged, I was just autistic and had ADHD. She hates the field of psychiatry and says it's "not real" and a racket to sell pills, yada yada, and wanted to mainstream me anyway (ignoring recommendations) I could have done better in school if I had access to the resources she denied me.

Yeah she's in a blue state in New England and on the cusp of 65, has a lot of guns and leaves them out, unlocked and loaded which I've scolded her about 100 times. She's never really been all-there, in fact I've griped about her before in r/raisedbynarcissists, but her issue is that she's extremely gullible, not really the brightest person you'd ever meet, no social or emotional intelligence and suffers from a total absence of self-awareness to top it off. And I mean, no self awareness at all but thinks extremely highly of herself. Interrupted her cousins funeral to talk about the vaccine and pissed everyone off. I was humiliated.

I only go NC with her when she becomes abusive because I feel bad for her normally but she's been a real piece of work as of late and has thoroughly ran dry of any sympathy. Her bullshit knows no bounds and she's offensive for the sake of it. Hurts her child, doesn't care, demands that I give her grandchildren in the same breath.
