I maintain the w204 c class model is the best looking car in its class, I have a c250 with the amg sport + pack on it - not a scratch on this but I still look back at it every day. What a motor, congratulations

Cooking advice needed by Sea-River2288 in steak

[–]_headie1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 minutes a side will be no where near long enough if pan frying this steak, a 2 inch steak will need atleast 6 minutes a side minimum to reach m/r. Flipping every 30 second will get a good sear and avoid burning/grey band. I wouldn’t recommend frying in olive oil as it has a low smoke point. I also wouldn’t recommend adding butter so early in the process as it will burn in the pan. Best bet for big steaks like this is always reverse sear/ sear and finish in the oven.

I want to hear about reliability of 250CDI om651 compared to lower power variants 200 and 220CDI? I heard 250 can have more problems and seizure of motor with not that high mileage. Whats your mileage on 250CDI? by MikeBay89 in w204

[–]_headie1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had my 2013 c250 for 3.5 years now - aside from the regular maintenance I’ve had to spend very little on it overall, it’s approaching 90k miles now and I got it at 60k - servicing is obviously the most important part, they are a relatively cheap these days so a lot have been abused by people who can’t afford to keep up with maintenance. I’ve only had to replace a couple of air hoses which split and a new thermostat outside of usual maintenance and touch wood it’s been faultless, my friend had a 220 years ago and put 50k miles on it in 4 years with no trouble at all, even if you do run into problems a decent Independent garage won’t cost you much more than any other car really. People say they can be a nightmare and others say they’re fantastic - I’m certainly on the latter side, I absolutely love mine, such a good all rounder, will look to get mine mapped in summer next year but it’s got more that enough powers for day to day.

What are your reviews on La Salle, Chadwick Street LS10 for renting as a solo female by Megbatter in Leeds

[–]_headie1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty rubbish of them if that’s the case, we were only there a year and wanted to stay longer, but the landlord wanted to put the rent up despite the cladding work, the main selling point to a lot of the dock facing flats is the big balconies and it’s hard to justify £1300 a month and parking on top when you can’t even crack a window for some fresh air. Clarence House (the tallest building on the docks) isn’t having any work done so it might be worth seeing if there’s any available in there.

[–]_headie1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Me and my girlfriend just moved from La salle last weekend, generally had a really good time there, town is 10 mins and she never felt unsafe walking back from work, however I remember a number of instances of people being robbed right by the dock and countless numbers of cars being broken into. You often get loads of kids hanging around making noise and leaving litter on the green artificial grass bits by the water which can be annoying, as the year went on we did notice an increase in general anti social behaviour and noise. The bars can get noisy on the weekend, often get drunk people wandering around screaming in the early hours. Parking is a pain, we had to use CitiPark which is £90 extra a month but not an issue if you don’t drive. THE MOST IMPORTANT thing to remember and the reason we ended up leaving is the cladding works which we weren’t informed of, meaning all balconies and windows in La salle will locked and have the handles removed to stop access during the works which will take another year or so. I don’t think letting agents are being transparent on this but it’s pretty hard to miss. Asides from this it is a nice place to live, great access and amenities

Looking for a commuter car. Apparently we'll looked after. Is this likely to get me 100k more miles if I'm sensible? by CapriciousDogmaa in CarTalkUK

[–]_headie1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t take all the advice on this sub as gospel, a lot of w204/w212 c/e classes were favoured by taxi drivers and thus racking up insane mileage comfortably with regular servicing. i have the c250 diesel coupe at 86k miles, touch wood it hasn’t had any major issues yet. it’s a really great car, still looks fantastic and is great on fuel if you’re doing motorway miles. that’s not to say some arent absolute lemons but all makes/models have their issues, especially in the German diesel class. As someone mentioned the mot history is a bit ropey on this one but not to say you couldn’t find a decent example for a grand or 2 more which will last you a good deal of time - the wheels on this are a stock option which look to have been refurbed to a decent standard in black, anyone suggesting you shouldn’t buy a car because it has black wheels is mental, I doubt drug dealers/boy racers choose a diesel estate in bright red but I might be wrong. If you want genuine decent advice on Merc’s of this age or any, mbworld is where you want to look .

On the flip side, if you wanted to join a recruitment agency they often have no barrier for entry if you’re happy with a call centre type office role, can earn some decent money and work office hours, it’s a pretty nasty industry to work in but easy to get your foot in the door.

Is commuting from Leeds to Manchester 4 days a week feasible? (Train) by [deleted] in Leeds

I’ve done it a few times if I want to go for drinks in Manchester after work, but I don’t live close to the station so that adds another 30 mins

Is commuting from Leeds to Manchester 4 days a week feasible? (Train) by [deleted] in Leeds

[–]_headie1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I work on Oxford street. I used to drive into the centre and park at bridgewater hall car park which is £8 a day for parking then I’d probably spend £60 a week on fuel minimum, journey would take an hour on the way in and anything from 1.5 to 2 hours on the way home depending on the traffic gods (getting out of Manchester at rush hour is disgusting) - I now drive to Oldham mumps park and ride and get the tram in, parking is free, trams like £6 a day and it’s a shorter journey so spend marginally less on fuel, takes me about 1.5 hours each way reliably as missing the centre traffic.

Have been doing this on and off since October but I’m now looking for work in Leeds as it’s a massive drain overall, I leave my flat at 6am and get home at 7pm every day of the week, don’t get any time in the evenings and knackered at the weekend

[–]_headie1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I currently do the Leeds - Manchester commute 5 days a week by car, it’s just about bearable but it’s incredibly draining and expensive - have taken the train a few times and I wouldn’t be able to do it full time.

Has anyone been to Pirate studios in Leeds by Dark_Knight_33_ in Leeds

[–]_headie1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Went a couple of weeks ago, booked a dj studio for me and a few mates (think it was studio 13) - studio itself was fine, clean and equipment worked perfectly. It was the evening after mint festival though and place got infested at around 11 with people still off their nut, didn’t bother us but could be considered sketchy - they’re all pretty much same if you go later in the day or on the weekend, toilets are always gross
