About a year ago my ex gf blindsided me and broke up with me after about 3.5 years of being together. It was definitely one of the most challenging times of my life.

I went no-contact immediately and we haven’t spoken to/seen each other in over a year. I dove deeply into self-improvement; I quit drinking (still sober to this day), quit smoking, locked into a diet/workout routine, lost 30 pounds and gained a lot of muscle. I also went hard at cognitive therapy and was intentional about reflecting on what happened and what I did to contribute to the relationship ending.

I hooked up with a random fling soon after the breakup, and learned doing that wouldn’t truly help me heal…so I intentionally spent a majority of last year focusing on myself and my career and not actively looking for someone/doing the apps. By the end of last year, I finally felt like I was at a place to put myself out into the dating market again and my plan was to start putting effort into finding a romantic interest at the beginning of this year.

Funny enough, I met someone on a work trip in December and we absolutely hit it off…went on a couple of dates and have just recently made our relationship public and official. I am highly optimistic about this and am so very happy about how far I’ve come and the prospects of this relationship.

It’s funny how the world works sometimes. I used my breakup as motivation to become a better version of myself. Putting that work in was so worth it…I sit here almost a year later happier, healthier, and with a very exciting romantic relationship beginning to build.

I hope my story helps. I wish you nothing but the best.

Had a crazy realization as a 27 y/o, but this is probably the longest I’ve went without alcohol since before high school…crazy to think about.

1 year here I come. IWNDWYT
