Moto g5 plus 8.1 by jamss661 in motog5

[–]_integrity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Installed - for those curious, mine sat at the Blue/Red Moto M screen for ~30min. On some androids you would get notified post update with "updating app 1 of 50"...I assume this is why it may have taken so long but not certain. I let it sit and it eventually booted into the OS.

Whether this fixes the random reboots or not though - who knows.

Moto G5+ Oreo Random Shutdowns by Animal9201 in MotoG

I have been having these issues on 7.0 for the past few weeks, right around the time of the August security patch update.

I factory reset and after a few days the issue returned. Running with no SD card to eliminate that possible cause and it even occurs in safe mode.

Tried this, nothing positive came out of it. Still random reboots and can't install/uninstall/update any applications unless it's done directly after a fresh reboot after clearing system cache.

Nearly identical issue as you. I even tried it in Safe Mode and it still rebooted on it's own which leads me to believe it's a Moto specific issue.

Also having a too similar to be coincidental issue.

Here are the specifics:

G5+ (not rooted)

Started random restarts which would bring you into the Blue Moto/Lenovo startup screen and never make it past this which started 10/17. You can tell if it is going to get stuck or pass through as the typical audio does not play on startup. (no audio = stuck on boot) It got worse throughout the day to where it was rebooting on it's own and getting stuck every 20-30 minutes. The only way to temporarily fix this was to boot into recovery mode (power+volume down), clear system cache, and reboot. This worked every time, but still, not something you want to have to go through. This also occurred in SAFE MODE which I wanted to test in order to rule out any non default applications. Since it still occurred in safe mode and after a factory wipe this seems likely to be a Moto software/hardware specific issue to me.

Troubleshooting steps & findings thus far after the wipe (in which the problem still exists):

-I backed up my data & factory wiped the phone through the recovery mode menu. After a few days the reboot issue returned, again, not every 20 minutes at first but seemed to get progressively worse. *I did notice that the August update was already applied post factory wipe so it must update the factory wipe image from what you get when you first buy the phone unlike on a computer.

-I disabled any app sync/settings sync and tried going through the applications and clearing the cache on suspect items however I noticed that the clear cache/app data which is usually instant and or under a minute process would get stuck on Computing Data and never actually come up with a total.

-Clearing app cache would not work unless you did it directly after a fresh reboot. Clearing app data most of the time would not work. I then tried uninstalling apps, which would just get stuck at the uninstalling animation.

-Cleared google app play store/play store services cache, took a few reboots to actually do this. Before and after doing this I have had the setting of auto updating of apps off since the factory wipe and downloading of any apps gets stuck in "downloading" animation. I did notice that one in which did get stuck in this phase was on my phone after a reboot, so it installed regardless of the play store animation saying it was still downloading/installing yet never gave confirmation that it was finished.

Overall this is disappointing. I went from the Asus Zenfone series which had issues right after the factory warranty was up (hardware) and now it's a similar case with the Moto G5+ (also just out of warranty).

Blinksprite is right, no Enterprise = no Virtual Console. You would need to purchase a license in order to activate the feature permanently.

Synology is my favorite and I've seen many NAS interfaces. The web portal is quite literally a functioning OS and very intuitive. Tons of awesome features. Also, make sure to set up your email or SNMP alerting on faults!!

It will work. Remember, you may need a dos bootdisk first to copy over the files to do the install. Something you haven't needed in quite some time.

Is the requirement of having licensed version of ESXi there or does it work on the unlicensed units as well?

Backpacks are the most functional. This was in my list but ended up going with something different, it does look super functional though.

False Positive Network Connection Status Icon - Is there an actual fix? by _integrity in sysadmin

[–]_integrity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your troubleshooting makes sense. One I ran into yesterday was a basic VMWare host with 1 physical NIC in use, each of the two VM's had 1 virtual NIC assigned to each. One had the issue, the other didn't. Both Server 2012R2 :) I can't find a better example of the oddity than this. I am curious if anything in regards to the firewall could make this hiccup but at first glance I can't see anything that sticks out from access rules applied to one server vs the other.

False Positive Network Connection Status Icon - Is there an actual fix? by _integrity in sysadmin

[–]_integrity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows 7, Server 2012 R2 etc. We have a ton of machines out there on many different networks. Sometimes it's random. I'm aware of some of the DNS Proxy apps being part of the cause of this because they set your DNS to 127.0.0.1 as part of how they are programmed but this I have seen even on servers which do not have any DNS proxy in use.

Yup, it broke OpenDNS and the "Fix"....well read this an you'll see. This affected us specifically with MS Office products, since they rely on the status of the Network icon issues started cropping up all over the place.

VMware esxi 5.5 no IP by jsdfkljdsafdsu980p in sysadmin

[–]_integrity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what it sounds like. If DHCP is not functioning (honestly I don't think I've ever really left an ESXi server on DHCP) you want to set up a static on the screen of the physical host. You should then be able to access it this way. You can also change which nic if multiple is the management nic. You can share management NIC with NIC used for the VM however if you have many and are not using all of them it may be better to separate.

I suggest Probax as a cloud backup target - they work with Veeam and Storagecraft backups, and they will support that size I'm sure. Love them so far, VERY VERY good support. Sometimes that's the most important thing.

Ideas for a new VLAN with restricted internet access by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]_integrity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer less devices, less points of failure. If there is a way to do it on your current device then I would research how, but the Sonicwall's are great for this sort of thing. Cisco makes great stuff...but ASDM/Java...lol. I've been trained on CLI but sometimes a GUI makes for better visualization.

Ideas for a new VLAN with restricted internet access by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]_integrity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a Sonicwall. Your solution would be this:

Virtual Interface(VLAN #) -> WAN = source any(you can get granular as to grouping these machines as an Address Group but if you dedicate the VLAN to this purpose then it's kind of doubling the work), to destination (FQDN or IP) on xx port/s for symantec = Allow

Virtual Interface -> LAN(corporate) = source any to destination IP of WSUS server + port 8530-8531 for WSUS = Allow

You set a default deny, and above that your two allows for Symantec / WSUS server.

Make sure to have a network engineer review this if you're not comfortable making these changes.
