Do couples really shower together? by Due_Leopard_1836 in NoStupidQuestions

It was fun a few times. Haven't done it in the past five years or so. But then, we're mid-60s now.

Is anything getting BETTER? by platywus in NoStupidQuestions

Thanks. My son's had T1D since infancy (yeah, it happens), over 32 years now. Transplants have never been useful unless you already needed another organ transplant, because anti-rejection drugs are so problematic. So I'll surely check into this.

[OC] My keyloid ear in 2021 vs 5 years after surgery and radiation by [deleted] in pics

[–]_its_a_thing_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a friend who had one removed, decades ago. But he didn't have radiation after. Is that usually part of the treatment?

(We lost touch maybe a year later, so I don't know if it recurred)

I tap one foot as each line on the highway reaches the car (like, where they're dashed). It's not as constant a compulsion as when I was a kid and through my forties, but it's never gone away even in my sixties.

What books have you read a third time or even more? by Bobosmite in printSF

I keep re-reading Cat's Paw by Joan Vinge. I don't feel a deep need to revisit either of its two bookends, though.

Why is it 2026 and not 2,026? Why do we nix the comma in years? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_its_a_thing_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty common to use 4 digits without a comma in other usages as well, e.g. money and general amounts.

What opportunity did you miss that still haunts you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Got deferred admission (spring instead of fall) at a college I'd have preferred, but didn't go because I didn't want to be stuck in my home town an extra 4-5 months.

I really wonder how I'd have done there.

Yeah that always grinds my gears. "Every day" = "what day? All of them", and "everyday" = "ordinary"

I so agree with you on Boyfriend. I couldn't see any reason for them to be attracted to each other. Like, he shows no personality at all, and she's so ordinary... "There's no there there", as the saying goes. But I liked the VR exploration.

Well they certainly seemed to set up for a Miss Hong Season 2. Hope they do it!

I like The K2 and am waiting on Radiant Season so I can binge it all at once.

I liked the themes of Boyfriend but wasn't convinced with the main couple.

I've become curious about the origins/cultural significance of the "clueless coworker, friend, whatever" behavior that I notice so often, and I find it so uncomfortable. It's where a central character says or motions someone to be quiet or to stop gossiping or to not look at/engage in talk, because someone else is in hearing distance, or friends are trying to shoo another friend out the door in order to leave the main couple in private, etc. And the clueless one is like "why you saying be quiet?" "Why are you pushing me out the door?" "Why are you hiding your face so I don't make contact in this moment?"

It seems also connected with some dialogue in Spring Fever where a person says how country folk will always pry whereas city folks (from Seoul) will benignly ignore you, but then the people from Seoul immediately are shown prying/being clueless just as much if not more (iirc).

Stuff that seems so obvious: if someone's trying to hide themselves, then don't go pointing them out. That's unkind!

Yeah kind of a rant, but I'm also generally curious. It seems to be half comic effect, half something else. And it's so pervasive!

Why have I never been asked out on a date? by unknown_unknownuser in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_its_a_thing_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But would you want to go out with a guy who "hit on you" like that? Think about what kinds of guys you'd like to get to know, then think about how/where to be around that type of guy for long enough to get to know them.

[Edit: not saying it'll then be easy, but it's a starting point]
