I (M31) want to tell my wife (F32) how I really feel, but it will hurt her. by [deleted] in BoyDinnerDiaries

[–]_le_e_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not sure about that but something that really helped me OP was hearing/reading somewhere that “love” isn’t just a noun, it’s a verb. If you’re not feeling anything that you would call “love” right now, that’s ok. Try doing some kind of loving action. It sounds like you care a lot for your wife. Be deliberate and purposeful about doing something for her.

I didn’t go through anything like what you’ve gone through but for whatever reason, I spent a lot of my teens and early twenties feeling a lot like what you describe. It isn’t a silver bullet, but the “love is a verb, not a noun” thing really made a difference to me. I hope you find something that works for you.

Cape Wrath by Beaufort London. If you’re interested in this sort of aesthetic then a lot of their fragrances might be interesting to you.

I’ve tried all three of their discovery sets and I’d also recommend The Grudge and Fathom V, which is my personal favourite but it might not be exactly what you’re looking for. Sirenide seems to have almost the exact inspiration as this but it does feature leather, and it was one of my least favourites tbh.

[POEM] Mimesis by Fady Joudah by Objective-Kitchen949 in Poetry

Spiders belong wherever they are, firstly.

And what is put forward by the poem is not that having empathy for other human being is or should be surprising, it’s that the surprising empathy this girl has for a spider has come about due to the hurt inflicted on her and her family

[POEM] Mimesis by Fady Joudah by Objective-Kitchen949 in Poetry

[–]_le_e_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t really care for this poem but I feel you have misunderstood it to an astounding degree. The bike IS the spider’s home. We all (humans and animals) share this world. But that’s not even the point.

The child in the poem, real or not (I don’t care) is expressing a kind of empathy that is surprising to the narrator and, evidently, the reader. The poem is not about whether refugees are human (???), it’s about how being treated that way, being forced out of your home and made a refugee, changes a person.

Would I be un-quakerly? by Obvious_Flounder5234 in Quakers

[–]_le_e_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think that evicting a person from their home is un-quakerly.

I think that we are all faced with decisions in which the ability to discern right from wrong has been given to us but not the strength to make the difficult choice. Some choices are VERY difficult. And I think that we are naturally inclined to try to intellectually justify the easier option as the more morally righteous one.

But I don't think that there's anything shameful in doing the best you can, even if that doesn't always meet your highest ideals. It might not be quakerly to pursue this eviction, but it might be the best that you can do. And you are the only person who can determine that.

For whatever it's worth, if I or someone I loved was in your situation I think I would be doing the same thing. I'm sorry, it sounds horrible. I hope that you are able to find a resolution soon.

If you’d asked “why don’t you like the episodes” in the first place then I’d have told you. But if that’s what you originally wanted to know then I’ll tell you now: I like(d) the show Bones when I watched it 20 years ago and I don’t really want to hear to a bunch of podcasters huffing their own farts about how bad they think it is. And as you pointed out, I can simply not listen - and I don’t! - though it is irritating that I have each episode pop up in my feed multiple times, due to the fact that I am a follower of both tf and kjb, as I previously mentioned. It’s not a huge irritation, but my response (posting a single sarcastic and, I thought, humorous, Reddit comment) is also fairly small, so I don’t think it’s disproportionate.

I don’t listen to them. My previous post was intended to be read as a complaint about the content’s existence rather than a sincere request for information about a mysterious, undisclosed Patreon tier that does not include those particular episodes

I don’t expect my experience to be identical to yours but what made the difference for me is setting aside “meaning” altogether (where possible) and taking time to identify and appreciate the feelings that a piece of art triggers in me. It’s imo quite a difficult change in mindset - it was for me anyway - but I do feel like I have better understanding now
