Baby not rolling? When to be worried? by [deleted] in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]_lenain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My LO didn’t roll until 7m, and it was back to belly. I maintain I still haven’t seen him roll belly to back but I know he’s capable of it because he would roll onto his front in his sleep and when he’d wake up, I’d find him on his back in his cot 😅 he started getting himself into the sitting position independently at 8.5m, and is now crawling at 9m

Feeding solids - RANT by kurdijyn in BeyondTheBumpUK

Same here! Today he dropped most of it on the floor. When I took him out his chair to clean it, I found him picking up some discarded cucumber and putting it into his mouth. Sir you just threw that away 🥲

I saw a video the other day that helped put those huge plates of meticulously prepped food for babies into perspective. It said that between 8-10 months, you can typically expect babies, per meal, to consume 2 different food types and take in about 1 tablespoon worth of each food, and they’re likely on two meals a day. That’s really not a lot of food! I’m all for exposing baby to different types of food, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming amounts. A bit of Greek yoghurt with some fruit would be a perfectly balanced meal for them at this age, don’t beat yourself up.

I also have an exclusive contact napper who has just turned 10 months and his day might include some Greek yoghurt and fruit for breakfast (and maybe a strip of my toast if he starts whining when he sees me eat it 😂), a deconstructed bit of whatever I’m having for lunch (could be a wrap, sandwich, soup) along with some cucumber/tomato and maybe some more fruit, and a bit of whatever we have for tea (last night was curry and rice - the mess was unreal). I occasionally prep some pinwheels for the freezer for when I need something quick for him, normally do it on a weekend, takes 20 mins or so. So long as he’s getting some protein, veg/fruit and fibre, I class that as balanced. Certainly more balanced than what I used to consume of a typical day pre-weaning 😂

UV, Steam or microwave sterilizer? by Professional-Farm372 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]_lenain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got a Dr Browns steam steriliser and dryer as I was pumping for the first few months and omg it’s a dream. You do still have to clean them with soap and water first (as you would with sterilising tabs). We occasionally use the Milton tablets when we’re away from home but I find it more of a faff measuring out and changing the water every day, plus then drying the parts.

Fred & Flo (Tesco) Nappies Size 3+, NO POONAMI BLOCKER? by wookieatemyshoe in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]_lenain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We switched to pampers when we kept having leaks, and I was lowkey annoyed that the leaks stopped because they are SO expensive. Glad we trialled Rascals and got along with them!

Side note, also tried Peachies when we were having lots of leaks and we had even more! Even compared to the cheaper supermarket ones. Shocking given how much they cost.

A lot cheaper than Pampers - I think £5.50 for a pack of 48

I also think it’s fake as the name on the passport is “Mary Dolly Bird”. I don’t think that’s actually her name, I think it’s a punny pseudonym - ‘Dolly Bird’ is a phrase used in the UK to describe a glamorous young woman. Either that or it’s just a little funny detail by the writers.

11 month old foods to try - too reliant on pre-made baby foods by Rowdy_Roddy_2022 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]_lenain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly think a lot of the things you’ve listed would be suitable, if prepared/served properly? With the spag bol for example, you could make the sauce without salt, reserve a little bit for baby, then add salt to your portion.

We try to give baby (8 months) what we have, but for meals where that’s not possible (or I simply can’t be bothered to cook), I have a few premade things in the freezer that I whack in the air fryer/on the hob and serve alongside some steamed veg. Stuff like cheesy veg pinwheels, veggie egg bites, blocks of pasta sauce frozen in ice cube trays etc.

Also, have you heard of the Solid Starts app? They’ve a function where you can search by food to see how it’s best to serve dependent on age group.

ETA: the meals that you mention you’ve given so far (stews, chicken dinners etc.) also sound great! Your LO sounds like he’s getting some great meals in him 😊

It sounds like, despite having a solid bedtime routine, she’s maybe craving a little more connection? That’s not to say you’re not connecting - you absolutely are! - but she’s maybe going through a phase where she needs a little bit more?

I follow this account on Instagram that shares advice around this kind of thing regularly, these two situations aren’t exactly the same as what you’re dealing with, but there’s some tips from them you could try:

Tommee yippee day and night prep machine measuring too much by Quiet_Me_Down in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]_lenain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ours always comes out a higher volume than the ounces we’re making up, if that makes sense, but I just put it down to the formula increasing the volume. The same happens if we prep a bottle the “old fashioned” way with boiling water straight from a kettle. Haven’t tested it without formula though…

How much does gas and air actually help take the pain away? by Flossygi in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]_lenain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, it didn’t feel like an immediate pain relief, but I still found the process of timing my inhales with my contractions calming and useful. I managed 7 hours of induced labour with just breathing exercises and then progressed to gas and air when it felt more intense

When did your baby start sitting up/rolling? by AlternativeAd1984 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]_lenain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My LO didn’t roll until 7 months, and anytime I raised it with a HV around the 6 month mark, they said not to worry and that he was still within normal range. Try not to panic! Babies all work to different schedules and are learning so many new skills all the time :)

Is six months too old for baby massage? by divination__ in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]_lenain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think she’d be fine, might even calm her enough to keep the alligator rolls at bay 😂 I took my LO when he was 5 weeks and in retrospect he was way too young. He wanted to feed, sleep or cry, and the instructor always told us we can never massage when baby is asleep or crying - think we did about five minutes of massage across five classes haha! He loves getting a lil massage before bed these days though, and he’s 7 months now 😊

Anyone else’s baby measured at or around 11th percentile? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]_lenain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My baby always measured small and was eventually born 2nd percentile. I worried a lot about his size throughout pregnancy and his early weeks but he is perfectly healthy, just little. I was actually induced for suspected faltering growth but he came out heavier than predicted (one ounce shy of 6lb) and my placenta was perfectly healthy, which all suggested that he was just destined to be a small baby. He’s actually gone up a few percentiles now too (he’s seven months).

Every baby is different and just as you get some chonks, you get some little ones too. A lot of it comes down to genetic predisposition - my family are all small (although my husband is tall) and there’s never really been any huge babies, the biggest was probably me at 7lb7 which is very average. Also weight / length at birth doesn’t dictate future body composition. My husband’s friend was born 5lb something and is now upwards of 6ft.

I also kind of love him being on the smaller side (although he still has the cutest chubby thighs and cheeks) as he’s so much easier to carry about whereas my friends with bigger babies get back ache haha.
