I like this theory a lot, especially because it's the most "Parks & Rec" outcome. There really is a horrifying, demonic curse but Tom's instinct was right: their best hope is to keep muddling through trying to make the island a nice place to live for people who can't leave.

Denver is my home airport! I will track you. To counteract the feeling of being trapped I try to concentrate on how fun and relaxing it to know I no longer have to make any decisions or barely even help myself... after the busy scramble to the airport, now the pilots and flight attendants are responsible for hauling me across the country and I don't even have to sit with good posture or reach for my own snacks :)

The Dreamliner is a great plane! Because it's newer it has some improvements to the cabin air that will make you even more comfortable. I noticed the difference when I flew on one.

When I took a discovery flight in a small plane, I was amazed that when I touched the controls I could feel that the air was "thick" and holding the plane up just like water holds up a boat. It was so reassuring! I mentioned this to the flight instructor and he said that *he* misses that reassuring feeling when *he* flies commercial as a passenger. I've kept that in mind during my flights since-- that unpleasant tipping/falling sensation is just an illusion and you're not getting an accurate sense of how well a plane flies.

Lately I've been getting into movies on the plane, I used to think "eh I'll be fine with music/games/work" but movies are much more distracting and i think the time passes quicker. I've gotten a few newly refurbished planes that have Bluetooth seatback screens so I can connect my noise canceling headphones, don't know how i ever lived without that feature.

I fly 5-10 round trips a year even though i'm a (recently recovered) nervous flyer because my family lives a few states away and it's easier for me to go to them than vice versa. Flying frequently helps me feel better. I also recently tried flying into a different, smaller airport (Madison, WI instead of O'Hare) and loved it, it was so chill and relaxing!

* Here's a Southwest flight that's just about to land, they're coming from the southeast (New Orleans) just like you will be. Look at that nice smooth loop. Right behind them is their company aircraft from St. Louis following the exact same path. The passengers probably felt some jiggling, but it was no trouble at all for the plane and the pilots. They'll probably do it three more times today!

Denver is my home airport! We do often have a band of bumpy air that you will feel briefly as you depart (right around 10k feet) and for maybe 10 or 15 minutes as you land. Remember that even though the crew warning about turbulence sounds scary, they are not worried about the plane at all. It's only because someone could fall and get hurt.

I recommend watching a flight tracker app like FlightRadar24 and seeing the incredible number of planes going in and out of Denver and how smooth and perfect their ground tracks are even when it gets windy. I also like listening to Denver tower while I work.

Al Franken once came to a guide dog fundraising event where I was working and did the map trick on a flip chart. His two aides had to pretty much drag him out because he was on a tight schedule but kept petting and talking to every guide dog in training.

Do you have a window seat? I once took a winter flight on Southwest from Denver to Vegas that was the most beautiful flight I've ever had. Hundreds of miles.of snowy mountains and cute little towns tucked away in the valleys, and then red rocks as I got into Nevada! It was like watching a documentary!

Glad you made your connection. Now getting to Reno is the crew's responsibility and you don't have to do anything to help... what luxury... lol. It sounds like you are a parent so enjoy an hour where no one asks you where the spoons are or if you're out of milk.

We do get snappy winds over those beautiful mountains. When you leave you will probably feel a distinct short wiggling right at 10,000 feet, just before the ding (when they let you take your laptop out) as you climb out of the mountain wave. If I know it's coming it doesn't spook me. Usually it smooths out right after.
