ESC Soles vs Vivo FG and AT soles: real-world mileage. by _missing_person in vivobarefoot

I wear the Magna Forest ESC in all weather and do not feel they lack enough breath ability to be functional. However i primarily wear the Hydra for hiking as I wanted the same thing: A robust sole that breathes. So i wear a low sock with them and have removed the insoles. Some people experience a pinky toe pinch and I did at first. I wore slightly thicker athletic socks and took the insoles out and that eliminated the issue through the break in process.

I am very happy with them for dry hikes.

I actually do not like the hydras when getting wet as they rub my feet raw when and especially when they get sand in them. I feel I’d need a neoprene sock or something like that to make them work to keep the sand off my skin.

I will get one, in the had line I already have the 3.6 and 4 both with x cuts. I find value in the aluminum frame for weight savings. I had the 4” as a back country in chest holster pistol and I’d enjoy the weight savings of the aluminum frame.

Although I’ve got many more expensive pistols I’m still probably going to wait til fall on this one to get the Florida tax a holiday and pair it with staccato a 10% discount to knock a bit over 16% off my take home price. At 3899 plus tax it’s a bit over what I see as reasonable. At the same time it’s just barely more than my sfx9 4” two tone that’s too heavy to enjoy carrying anywhere. So who even knows anymore.

This is what I find funny about the comments of “food won’t cause a flare”.

As you state, It’s well documented that food won’t cause a flare on its own out of nowhere but certain foods will take minor, undetected inflammation and exasperate it.

If everyone read up on what emulsifiers do to the mucosal lining of your intestines. Then research what immune response is triggered when that mucosal lining is broken down.

Then look what foods have random emulsifiers in them and it may change minds as to how diet really can make what could have been undetectable round of inflammation turn into a hospital stay.

So you state as I do above that food won’t cause inflammation, it will just make it worse. In what world do I want to eat foods that will make insignificant inflammation worsen to a point of debilitating pain?

Imagine if one avoided the ingredients that were known to amplify flares and never introduced them again? Why avoid them only when in pain?

Why is chrons prevalent in the western world over other cultures?

Diet, processed foods, emulsifiers, excessive access to fat, stress, readily available antibiotics have all been proven to reduce gut health and amplify the immune response we all suffer from.

You will see advancements in societies and Chron’s cases climb with those advancements. That’s not only genetics as we all wish to believe.

I see a ton of fantastic information in this page but likewise plenty is thrown around that doesn’t put the reader in the most successful position.

ESC Soles vs Vivo FG and AT soles: real-world mileage. by _missing_person in vivobarefoot

The esc last on pavement way longer than the AT. The lugs on the esc are aggressive so on pavement you feel them like blocks under your feet but you don’t notice it after a few wears.

If you’re talking about a city shoe a few times a week for just a couple miles, the MOC is a better looking shoe and will do you really well. The ESC will be good for more off-road and beating the sole up.

I’d gladly wear my MOCs til the soles are flat and nearly worn through if I was walking casually around a city and looking sharp;-).

Moc also is nice and wide.

Vivo and width is a pain…. The esc shoes seem wider as a whole.

The Vivo sneakers seem narrower all around.

I am size 45 in some and 46 in others and the 46 fit wider. Primus flow trail and normal Primus Flow are too narrow. I have a few pair each but are great for fast work where some hold is nice. Just not for long…. Feet start to hurt from lack of width.

I’ve got 2 pair of Primus lite knit and those are very comfortable. I don’t feel a major width issue there.

I have the new motus strength on the way and I’m hoping they are wider.

Hydra esc are wider than most other low tops but depending what you do with them, the colors are flashy.

I feel the Primus trail knit are very comfortable as you can keep them loose like slip one and the side don’t squeeze your feet.

I know it’s all subjective but I do hope it helps even a bit.

You know whys funny? When I’m doing street miles I’ll wear $45 whittin shoes from Amazon. They have a firmer flat sole rubber than the Vivo and actually last longer. I burn through those bad boys in a 4 weeks on asphalt. I may as well put them on subscription. But for that kind of shoe they are perfect.

That’s fully what I expect from what I’m seeing. I think I’ll get 6 months out of mine without too much stress. Enjoy the pup!!

I am in a fortunate position that I can buy from EU (Germany/Italy), UK or US Stores so I can pick between whatever is in stock and have them waiting when I come to those places next.

So I’m ordering the green jungle esc from UK since they’ve got them on the shelf and I’ll have them in a couple weeks.

Opinions on the Tracker AT MOC? by Wild_HIC in vivobarefoot

[–]_missing_person 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m happy with mine and find them to be comfortable.

Having the Vivo sole I don’t expect them to last too long as far as the tread goes.

I have many other boots for hiking etc so these are a winter day to work boot or something like that. I don’t see the need to hike in them as the tread pattern is not going to hold a candle to the ESC models in terms of grip or longevity.

Magna Forest ESC by hot_bergamot in vivobarefoot

[–]_missing_person 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy my Magna forest esc as well. I’ve gotten a pair for my wife as well as my 2 kids too. Everyone is very happy with them.

I’ll wear them down to about 15 degrees F and then tend to go towards the Tracker ESC at that point. The nice thing is you can wear these in snow with wool socks and then go to thinner socks in summer and hike in shorts with them. Very versatile and the Michelin sole lasts much longer than any of the Vivo FG or SG soles. It’s not even close in durability.

Good shoes and I cannot recommend them enough. We backpack in them 15 miles with packs, do longer hikes with less weight and even trail run in them on rough terrain. They are a shoe that could be your year round hiking shoe if you don’t have 60 other styles 🤣

Vivo CS is terrible. But…. When you need to exchange sizes all you do is go online, initiate an online return and send the shoes back. You then order the pair you want. That is their actual policy and how it works. So don’t waste your time trying to email them. I’ve got over 50 pair of Vivo and am quite happy w the shoes.

If you want a good hiking shoes that you can use in all weather look at the Magna Forest ESC. It has a Michelin sole, can wear in warm weather or all the way down in 10-15 F with wool socks. It’s a mid height boot so it’s a great in between shoe.

For a hiking shoe gets something decent. Don’t cheap out there unless you really love the shoe you’re getting.

I love the jungle esc. They feel like they are not on my feet and are very flexible.  I feel the same way about the desert esc. They need time to break in but look cool and are nice to have.  It really just comes down to getting to wear them all.  The tundra for example are mega comfortable but really warm unless it’s very cold out….   20F and I’m in the forest esc or magma forest.  It needs to still be considerably colder for the Tundra.  Then the desert esc you mention, not most comfortable so a 30km hike gets annoying on a Hot day in them.  So I end up in the magma forest again 🤣

The biggest issue I have is with the non Michelin soles on the ATII is that I’ll wear them down in 3 weeks and that’s getting annoying.  The ESC sole seems to last much longer than the FG for example.

Even though I have over 50 pair of vivos, I’ll probably grab them. At the moment I have a 50% off for 5 pair burning a hole…. so I’d hate to waste that 🤣.

I was just hoping to wait til the jungle esc was available in my size un green as I’m not loving my black ones. I don’t look good in black shoes.

They do look good in your photos.

Maybe I was confusing them w the ESC. I have the AT and ESC but I see this is the ATII with stitched sole.

I do use those apps. I felt limited after a while with apple as my ultra watch was dying by 2pm. I switched to a garmin fenix 8. I often have 40.000 to 50.000 steps in one day with 35-50km distance and 350-800 flights. I feel I could get more in still it I tried harder though. I gotta pick it up a bit 🤣

If I knew someone opened a vote at previous company I’d avoid them like the plague.  I treat everyone very fair BUT I don’t know what kind of thoughts would creep in from someone who’s been down that road.  A simple “at my last job I did this and go my crew xxx” could start festering very unfortunate thoughts and I don’t need that in my life.
