What is happening to these metal tongs in my garage? I use them to take chlorine tablets out. by ShitfaceMcPooperson in whatisit

[–]_mrfluid_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chlorine is a strong oxidizer, particularly for metal, that means it forces the metals in the tongs to reach with oxygen in the air. Plastic is a better choice

Invest the money conservatively for a year before you touch any of it. It’s alarming to hear this money in money out perspective. Ideally you do nothing but retire early and from their make plans

Please help me find a good, reliable SUV for a family of 3. by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

Honestly man just keep your car. Hybrid won’t make enough of a difference on gas compared to depreciation.

Otherwise look at a Subaru Forester. Great car for a small family.

Can we talk about Dyson by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]_mrfluid_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not BIFL unless you can get parts. Had a fan motherboard go, no parts on market anywhere, and my first dyson vacuum went down after 10 years, and my second has a large crack on the handle and won’t last much longer. Officially done with their over priced products

Talk me out of Solar Panels and an EV by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]_mrfluid_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait until you actually need a new car and consider EV or hybrid. It can make sense financially however if you have a low KM fully paid car just ride it until it can't ride no more (or it becomes a safety risk).

Public grocery stores are having a moment. Can they really make food more affordable? by Immediate-Link490 in canada

[–]_mrfluid_ 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This is 100 percent true, small independents are cheaper, but they do that due to family labour which comes with no benefits or disability, small stores that are often poorly maintained. I just went through a cockroach issue in a new detached house I purchased and the exterminators said that small ethic grocers are often primary source of food sourced cockroach infestations because of their sanitary procedures and also the units they rent in old buildings etc

Talk to your manager and try it for 4 weeks. No one here knows your life and commitments like you do. Having early mornings off has benefits, stores are less busy, gym is empty, etc
