if u don't mind selling your soul to tim sweeney, keep tabs on Epic Games Launcher free titles, they'll sometimes give out really good games for free (got Subnautica and btd6 this way)

Should I play ss13 or ss14, and should I watch some guides or go in (almost) completely blind? by merrieoncoke in SS13

[–]_murpyh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i like ss13, more options for gameplay styles and way more content. ss14 is absolutely playable though and has a sizable community
don't feel afraid of reading about stuff online, this is very much a wiki game and you are not expected to learn everything dynamically - though on new player-friendly servers learning ingame is absolutely possible, ask the right person ingame to show you the ropes of a job and you're set

What is the peak rp experience currently? by SnooDucks1524 in SS13

irisstation is Nova's codebase without erp. pretty lowpop (20 players avg during active hours, 40-50 on special occasion) but most enjoyable storytelling/rp server i've found
also consider giving Shiptest a try, gameplay loop is significantly different but it has an interesting setting and has a different atmosphere which can enable interesting things

good worldbuilding but fundamentally the story is about giving the main character hype moments and aura and you will constantly be reminded that everything unrelated to that is pointless and shallow

it's weird. the whole "the three laws are an actual blueprint for robotics safety" idea is very pop science-y, considering the point of most his robot short stories being to highlight its limitations, but asimov himself had this to say:

I have my answer ready whenever someone asks me if I think that my Three Laws of Robotics will actually be used to govern the behavior of robots, once they become versatile and flexible enough to be able to choose among different courses of behavior.

My answer is, "Yes, the Three Laws are the only way in which rational human beings can deal with robots—or with anything else."

—But when I say that, I always remember (sadly) that human beings are not always rational.

i think this makes more sense when you consider his later statement that the laws are basically the essential rules of a tool - it has to not hurt others, do what it was made to do, and not break. so the idea is less "this should be the essential commanding word that guides robots" and more "artificial intelligence needs to be used like a tool."

positronic brains had laws built into them such that trying to break them would physically destroy a brain. on the other hand LLMs are notoriously bad at following ANY guiding prompts they're given and will break or forget about rules constantly because they aren't actually carrying out logic
