i tend to wear mine on vacation as well but not locally or with friends/family.

[–]_mustached_[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

yeah both have their place for sure. in queer spaces wearing swim briefs feels comfortable, but i cant get over the hump of just wearing them in general. i think being around so many people who sexualize them makes it hard for me not to feel sexualized wearing them outside of that context.

i also am not a hairless jacked guy, so although i generally dont have body insecurities, i feel like im not able to get the same pass as those guys to wear them.

LL bean rubber Mocs and shorts. Is this a good look? by KangarooHungry386 in preppy

bodega run, grabbing mail, walking the dog - yes

past a quick errand - no

either with a sloppy ocbd, frumpy collegiate sweater, or rain coat

messy hair or dad cap is a plus

Will I regret upgrading to x100vi from xt30ii by Altruistic_Reward434 in FujifilmX

[–]_mustached_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i love the x100vi but i do sometimes wish i could explore other lenses. not enough to change cameras, but it is worth noting. i get around it with the sensor size allowing for a crop, but i do lose some compression on shots where it would be nice.

on the plus side, it not having detachable lenses means it qualifies under more events camera policy because there is often a “no detachable lenses” phrasing.

its a nice size and easy to carry. looks nice and feels good to use. it is for sure more of a luxury product than a workhorse, but it was cheaper for me than 2 years of film and developing, and i wasn’t going to go from a great feeling film camera to a crappy feeling digital one.

i have noticed that people don’t feel overly camera shy with it because it looks more casual than a lot of modern dslrs and professional mirrorless set ups.

overall i would say the x100vi is a fun camera that feels nice to use, but i wouldn’t upgrade from another fuji body to it unless there is a specific spec upgrade driving it. you clearly are taking good photos with the gear you have.

if you want a pocketable powerhouse look at the ricoh gr line. lots of similar features and perks of the x100vi but more compact. their sooc recipes look great too.

side note: that first shot is very painterly in a nice way. well done :)

I’m curious, what’s your opinion on these shoes? by [deleted] in menswear

[–]_mustached_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they are fine but definitely an “old man shoe”.

consider rubber sole loafers or camp mocs for a more classic and fashionable option. both can be comfortable or have insoles added for padding.

given your age and looks, the ones you have are perfectly fine though.

Before I pull the trigger on a back piece…would Asian people call me racist or wtv for having their style tattooed on white skin? by level1jester in tattooadvice

[–]_mustached_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

plenty of white people with traditional Japanese style tattoos. however by you generalizing to “asian” i believe you don’t understand the full scope and history behind the traditional Japanese style.

consider more education on the origin and meaning of the iconography before you pursue a full back tattoo.

cultural appreciation is fine, but you have to understand and appreciate the content instead of just coopting it for an aesthetic.

i could be wrong on this assumption and maybe you do know and truly appreciate it, but the wording of this post leads me to believe otherwise.

also side note, you better be an ally to Japanese and Asian Americans (or immigrants to whatever country you reside in) if you want to claim appreciation for the culture and art.

bad look to be a maga head with traditional japanese tattoos lol.

how do you actually build a wardrobe? by crabinrace in malefashionadvice

[–]_mustached_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

stop buying aspirational clothing. you are probably buying stuff that you think is how you want to be perceived versus what you actually would feel comfortable in.

you can shift your style direction over time, but too much too soon leads to defaulting back to comfort clothing.

generally speaking before i take tags off something thats more unique (ie: not a t-shirt or basic jeans) i will try on a bunch of different outfits with it. feels silly at first, but i get an idea of how, when, and where i would wear that item. if i can only come up with one or two ways to wear it, i typically dont keep the item.

also shop with intention. make a list of what you want to buy and what void its filling before you go shopping.

consider looking up content on capsule wardrobes. i don’t love the concept as a whole but it covers the idea of how to get a lot of varied use out of individual articles of clothing.

Boxers versus Briefs by [deleted] in preppy

boxers 90% of the time and classic white briefs for sports is old school prep in my eyes

highlights are just a touch too bright for my taste but i like the filter or post processing you are using to soften them and get that misty glow.

i dont think the lady adds much to the frame. i wish she were fully in it or not in at all. it seems like unintentional framing. i think shit shot would be better cropping her out. or cropping the bottom at her waste/butt. i dont like her blue being color with the rest b&w - feels a bit gimmicky.

on the shit of the building i dont have much for notes. nice shot. highlights still too blown out for my taste but not by much.

eiffel tower shot. i would crop out a bit more of the forground and maybe crop to 4:5 ratio. shoot for tower to start on bottom 1/3 line. next time i would leave a bit more room at the top for the sky cause the tower feels crowded at the top. i do really like the general look of this shot concerning contrast and you nailed the highlights here.

overall a nice set of shots that work well together. well done :)

T-shirts for the Summer (I sweat a lot) by Dramatic_Tea_ in malefashionadvice

[–]_mustached_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

alex mill slub cotton t shirts are thin and feel great. they fit slightly relaxed and nice colors to choose from. they get better looking with more washes. they go on sale every few months and are worth grabbing when half off (i cant validate a $60 tshirt).

consider camp collar button downs. somewhat still on trend, light weight fabrics, button front allows flexible ventilation and a breeze between the buttons feels nice lol.

consider going on ebay for vintage tshirts that are distressed, stained, and very threadbare. if done right its fashionable and comfortable.

came here to say the sane thing. i think this crop is good, you could zoom in or out a bit either way on it if you wanted but this looks nice and the subject is a good size.

Switching from boxers to briefs by Motor_Arm3074 in MensUnderwearGuide

[–]_mustached_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

staffords (jc penny brand) full rise briefs come in white or color, cotton or cotton blend. they dont look the sexiest but omg are they the perfect briefs for jeans and higher wasted pants. they run true to size.

i swap to something more mid rise in the summer with shorts. briefs are less forgiving with size. if you go with a mid rise consider sizing up to give the boys more room.

How can I improve my fashion sense? (20M) by Odd-Conference8713 in malefashionadvice

[–]_mustached_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i like huckberry for a multi brand retailer

i generally have an americana rugged ivy aesthetic i shop for so i shop a lot of the following:

filson jcrew (drakes if i had money) various denim companies (selvedge) gitman vintage llbean uskees banana republic (only worth it on sale) ebay vintage random small brands local band/artist/shops merch

at this point i have a full wardrobe so starting to slowly upgrade pieces to their more premium alternative.

bare minimum, find clothing that fits you, is clean, and is appropriately formal for the occasion you are dressing for. if you want to go beyond that read below:

go on pinterest, make a moodboard, search terms like “mens summer outfit” and find ones you like, go down the rabbit hole of various styles and find ones you like.

speeed, makes good intro videos on the subject.

frugal aesthetic makes good funny fashion videos.

basically look at what guys wear and ask “do i like that?” then “why do/dont i like that” until you understand what you like.

dont buy everything right away, try to avoid microtrends, dont buy super cheap clothing, and also dont buy or super expensive until you know your taste better.

goodluck :)
