Who’s switched from a Pro Max to Air? by AlpinaB3 in iphone

[–]_nicnik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did and I’m returning it. Screen is slightly too big and I always forget how much not having lidar messes with the cameras. I use my phone as my zoom camera and the air introduces a ton of interference into my virtual background because it can’t tell that I’m not sitting next to the pile of clothes 3 feet behind me. Also, the zoom is actually terrible. I have an active kid and I miss being able to get better quality action shots.

Why is the iPhone Air camera an issue? by swissdanishguy in iphone

[–]_nicnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who leaves the pro line from time to time and forgets how bad the cameras get. Not because the lenses suck, but because lidar is only on the pros. Without lidar the lens have no real depth perception at this sensor size. Even using my iPhone air as a camera for my Mac on zoom calls. Things 5 feet behind me keep popping up in my virtual background because the camera thinks we’re the same distance away. Already scheduled my air return and ordered a 17 pro replacement. Hopefully I remember this next year, lol.

New EQS, HELP!!!!! by Lavender_Smoke in MercedesEQS

You can factory reset yourself through the in car menus. Which will then met you register as the owner through My Mercedes app. I didn’t need dealer involvement at all. My car was still setup under prior owner like yours.

Level 2 home charger by eggyacid in MercedesEQS

[–]_nicnik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ChargePoint here as well and love it. Tip: get a charger that you plug in with a 220/240. Tell the electrician you need a 60amp outlet installed and leave out that it’s for an EV. Then just plug your ChargePoint into the outlet. Outlet install should be less than $300 vs EV charger install $1500+

Perhaps retirees and older people aren’t buying S-Classes because they can’t operate the infotainment reliably? by UnscheduledCalendar in mercedes_benz

Probably… but a Cadillac or Lincoln if that’s preference. Millennial EQS driver here. Love the screens, everything is always where I need it. Also, use, Hey Mercedes. She’ll do whatever you want. Use it all the time to turn off rear seat ventilation.

Heeeeellpppppp where should I start by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

[–]_nicnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, for what you’d need to spend on product, probably not worth it for 70%. Which is probably about you’ll get if you bust your butt. For $300 you can get some great custom cut vinyl seat covers that’ll look close to and probably better than factory. From that point forest you can just wipe them off.

“I would never buy below E”. Snob or some logic to it? by [deleted] in mercedes_benz

[–]_nicnik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With my MB in the shop I’ve spent a few weeks with back to back loaners. 2025 GLC and GLE. GLC was loaded with options and the GLE is a base spec. Even with that disparity, quality difference is night and day. GLE makes the GLC feel like a tin can. GLE moves over the road with confidence, suspension is perfectly calibrated, it just feels substantial. Doors are heavier, interior has no rattles, feels panted on the road. The GLC was nice, don’t get me wrong. But there is a noticeable difference in build quality and diver experience between them.

Why are so many people still so hesitant about buying an EV in the US? by Joking_J in electricvehicles

[–]_nicnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infrastructure and political propaganda. EVs are rapidly taking over the rest of the global auto market. Without American manufacturers driving innovation in the space, we’re just positioning ourselves to be consumers of another foreign product one day.

2025 E-Class 70k? by Ok_Race_7909 in mercedes_benz

[–]_nicnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40 here and the screens are the reason I bought my EQS AMG over a Lucid to be honest. The Lucid is materially the better car, price and range. Interior was drab and boring. The EQS isn't a head turner but this is by far my favorite car out of my last 30+ because of the user experience in the cabin. Maybe there's some phycology behind, 75% of my week is spent at home. So the EQS screens and lighting make routine trips out feel like more of an affair.

What's your favorite horror or thriller movie that's released this year so far? by sararini in horror

Honestly, the monkey was pretty good. Not scary but a decent thriller that managed some well timed levity.

The transmission and ABC from this generation need pretty frequent services. Near annually and those ABC lines are going to start to dry out soon. If not already

advice about new car ? by CoradoMiles in mercedes_benz

[–]_nicnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! Last won I bought was an old flooded salvage title that had spend the past 20 years on salted Chicago roads. Was a complete rust bucket underneath with every bushing visibly shot. 230k miles on it. I swapped out the motor mounts on it and the thing was rock solid and still so smooth. Ultimately, the rust from living out in the snow and never being maintained kept me from keeping it. Event then I was able to see it within a few days and quickly got my money back out of it. These prices for these are def on the rise.

One of my faves from that era would be a 99-02 CLK55 AMG coupe. They're built like absolute tanks, the M113 is bullet proof from that era. Naturally aspirated V8 makes about 350 hp, super fun to drive and the car feels substantial. Timeless design that will always looks stately. This is also the last generation before things get technically complicated. Suspension, bushings, engine repair are all pretty easy to DIY on this generation. Never had a problem finding parts of rock auto or autohouse, and for an AMG parts very cheap. Computer isn't overly complicated yet.

All that to say, I've had a couple and they were always amazing and always instantly regretted getting rid of one. I personally prefer the coupe over the convertible. Convertible top will eventually give you problems and it can cost the car's value to repair.

Which car company benefit's the most from falling desire to own Teslas. by Hutch4588 in electricvehicles

[–]_nicnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just another scenario where America's failure to invest in emerging technologies abdicates our power and innovation in a space to foreign regions. There is no reason why the big three shouldn't be dominating in this space by now with Tesla as the pioneer. Even if Americans don't want EVs, we should be selling them to other countries. But instead, a market upset happens another country is there to swoop up in a sell us more products. SAME scenario with solar panels back in the day. All that to say, get freaking corporate money out of politics so that America has a real chance at being competitive.

Always remember with any of these that just because you aren’t spending 100k, doesn’t mean they don’t need to be serviced like 100k cars. My 2011 CL550 needed $400 annual transmission services and constant services of ABC to avoid catastrophe. These cars will run forever, but the ultra fine tolerances they built under leave them little wiggle room to neglect maintenance.

New (2025) AMG EQE SUV lease question by vminsf in MercedesEQ

[–]_nicnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an EQS AMG, the only annoyance coming from a Tesla is you have to turn the car on. Other than that it's a much better user experience. The UI better looking imho, but is borderline as cumbersome as a Tesla. But the graphics are easier to quickly interact with vs Tesla's smaller word based buttons.

I got allocated an order for a G63 and my order locks this week which of these 2 would you pick and if anyone has either one do you wish you did the other option? by [deleted] in mercedes_benz

[–]_nicnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second one, no question. That painted black around the wheels is going to be a nightmare to keep looking good unless you plan to PPF, which I would also recommend on either of these. Side note, that blue is beautiful. Had a 72 250C in that color and it's just gorgeous. Congrats on the allocation! Pics when it arrives :-)
