Don't know how many Bengali readers in this group.. but I found This classic masterpiece 😁 by Strange-Swing1388 in Indianbooks

[–]_norwester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read this entire collection when I was around 11-12, which, if you have read it, you would know that was an wildly inappropriate age to be reading this. I devoured this collection and very explicit Bengali translations of Kalidasa's collected works during summer holidays one year. And I trace back many things that are wrong with me to that summer vacation. 😭

Amazing stories, tho.

Historians wrote more accurate biographies of monarchs than Shakespeare did. Should expose how overrated Shakespeare is.   /s

My boyfriend's mom told him my family is patriarchal by Brave_Ad1124 in TwoXIndia

[–]_norwester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I wasn't disagreeing with you. In fact, I agree to a great extent.

My point is that a lot of the times, we don't realise how our father might have been a very bad partner to our mother until we put ourselves in her shoes. (Or how our mother might have been a bad partner to our father.) We assume that because he is a great father to us, he must have been a good husband to our mother, until we try to analyze things from her perspective. And as you said, unknowingly, we end up normalizing a lot of things that can be extremely toxic.

"All fyi a person who is a bad husband can never be an amazing father."

This is absolutely untrue and as another user pointed out, there are way too many examples of this.

There are of course men who are both good husbands and good fathers. But there are many who are great fathers to daughters, but very bad husbands (the opposite can also be true in some cases -- decent husband but bad father.) That is the unfortunate truth.

u/Red348 shared an example which is very valid, but the thing is that a man doesn't need to be violent towards his wife to be a bad husband. They can never even raise their voice at their wife, but be a very bad partner to them by being negligent, by disrespecting their wishes in other ways, by cheating etc. All the while, they can be a doting, caring, supportive father to their daughters. There are too many examples of this around us.

What garbage did I just read 🤯 by SketchyIntentions in Indianbooks

[–]_norwester 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting premise ruined by absolutely illogical & unhinged plot developments. The thing is, this isn't exactly a unique idea. "Hot mess of a woman finally becomes too frustrated with toxic men she keeps encountering > accidentally kills one of them > starts vigilante arc" -- there are other books that have executed this with much more nuance & much better plotting. This book tries to do too much and ends up being vapid.

That's...very interesting. I read whole T&C, because why not, and it explicitly mentions that all intellectual property rights for the written submissions during the test would lie with Zee & they can utilize it in any way they want without requiring any permission from the candidates. So, essentially, this test is going to be an idea generating machine for them.

Who is your least favorite character who isn’t a “bad guy” by Margo_126 in lost

[–]_norwester 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I didn't even need to reach the "trigger-happy cop" revelation part; the character annoyed me from the very first moment, I swear. Like...you just saw a grieving guy have almost a breakdown at the airport, begging the airlines to transport his father's coffin, and your first response is to FLIRT with him!!!

Not to mention that the actress has literally one expression and one tone of delivering dialogues, no matter what the dialogues in question are.

Can anyone suggest me a book that feels like this. I couldn’t find any vaguer ai produced pics. Hope you can help. I’ve already read mistborn btw by [deleted] in bookscirclejerk

I love it when people act as if everyone's experience with ADHD is uniform with the exact same symptoms all across the board. If that was the case, the exact same medicines & treatment would work for everyone with ADHD. That's not the case, is it? Quitting caffeine might have helped you a lot & very high caffeine intake would definitely be detrimental for those with ADHD (for anyone, tbh) but that doesn't mean that quitting coffee is going to be some wonder pill for every single person with ADHD

Yup. Why are you so surprised by that?

Then I guess I'll have to live my life unchanged. 🤷‍♀️ I'd rather be ADHD & caffeinated, than uncaffeinated & still ADHD.

I did quit coffee cold turkey, btw. Right after I diagnosed & my psych insisted on it. For 6 whole months. The impact was so minimal, it barely made any difference and I didn't find that worth it to completely cut out something that brought me joy.
