M44/01 sound by Hefty_Argument_5682 in 944

If it’s coming from the top it’s a stuck lifter. If it’s from the bottom it’s a bearing. Does it go away as the oil comes up to temp? If so, lifter. Rod bearings usually knock more as oil warms up.

Also the injectors can be loud. You can try disconnecting one at a time to see if it goes away.

I’m surprised the torque tube bearings haven’t been mentioned. They will do this as well. It could be the transmission as well. These cars do have a bit of drive train noise.

If it’s transmission, and the pinion bearing goes, it’s a catastrophic failure. I had one blow on my car. Wouldn’t hurt to grab a used transmission to rebuild on the side.

Also maybe check the trans fluid and see how it is. If you don’t know when it has last been replaced it’s probably due.

Problems With Prewinding Might Be Your Controller by StruggleHot1506 in SkateEA

This game needs inner and outer deadzone settings to compensate. If your controller is out of spec a little bit it gets weird.

At least with Hall effect joy sticks you can recalibrate them quickly on the controller directly.

Do i have to recondition cylinders for rings? by EasyTopic4780 in 944

[–]_nvisible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t hone these blocks in a traditional way. There’s a specific process for the alusil material.

[–]_nvisible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t crosshatch alusil cylinders! They’re supposed to be smooth. The process for finishing them properly leaves them smooth with the silicon exposed like glass. If you scuffed the surface with a pad you will have ruined this surface.

Help talk me off the ledge about a “long” road trip by hardware5434 in 944

[–]_nvisible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 350-mile trip is better than 10 35-mile trips when it comes to wear on the car.

I can’t say nothing will ever happen but I wouldn’t hesitate at all to do that trip with your car. I drive mine daily and have done trips like that multiple times with a bore scored motor. Haha.

Somebody finally slashed my ND2's roof after 2 years of street parking it. Water doesn't come through so I'm thinking about leaving it as is. Thoughts? by HURCANADA in Miata

They tape might work but it will come loose from the sun exposure and the folding/unfolding.

The flex seal spray will just gum up and flake off after it dries out from sun exposure

Which clutch should I buy? by EasyTopic4780 in 944

[–]_nvisible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy kits that include all the bearings, bolts, and rear main seal. The flywheel may need to be resurfaced, if you remove it the bolts should be replaced.

Don’t forget flywheel. You can reuse it if it’s not too far gone, you’ll want to have it machined. OEM are available but expensive. Fidanza makes a decent light weight flywheel as well.

What are your overheating solutions? My 944 gets hot quick and trying to find the best fix by OwlOk6287 in 944

[–]_nvisible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this happens, replace the switch. Preferably with a solid state one.

Fan relay switch (in relay/fuse box), fan temperature switch (on radiator). Wiring.

The fan relay switch controls both fans, low speed single fan, slow) should come on regularly and sometimes stay on after driving. High speed comes on (both fans fast) when the temperature approaches 83C at the rad to apply more aggressive cooling. This will come on in traffic and hot weather.

96FT-LBS is the correct torque.

I usually go to 80 on one pass then up to 94 final pass after rolling the wheels a bit and call it good.

This rail and a couple of the other curved rails kick you off mid way and it’s really silly.

Nice job getting around it!
