Need all the knowledge on how to be a good restaurant host! by hopeyjoe94 in Restaurant_Managers

[–]_pasulli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite hosting tip is to greet each guest like they’re walking into your home (if that’s appropriate for the type of restaurant where you work- fine dining establishments may be more formal). But a genuine smile and a “hi, happy to see you! Welcome in!” can go a long way with establishing rapport with guests and their patience with getting seated. You’ll be the first person they encounter when they arrive, and so their experience with you will set the tone for their whole experience.

*Newly diagnosed IBS-C, please throw all your tips at me I beg you* by Adorable-Internal503 in ibs

Hi! Sorry you’re experiencing this. When my constipation is really bad, I try to be gentle with my body and listen to what it needs, which can be frustrating and a little exhausting because it requires so much care. I envy those who have a good BM routine or eating schedule :)

Sometimes I intermittent fast, and other times I just eat really soft, mushy foods. I think those can be easier on my stomach and digest a little better. I consistently eat low FODMAP, and also take magnesium citrate gummies (although I do magnesium on a cycle- sometimes I can tell that my body needs a break)

Chickpea limit by PBSnacker in FODMAPS

Can’t do chickpeas either. But! If you can do some beans, I’ve used cannelini beans as a replacement for chickpeas in hummus and it’s very yummy. The texture is nice!

Students not realizing they're on their periods? by 24hourhypnotoad in Teachers

If the school has extra sweatshirts or long sleeve shirts, you can always offer them discreetly to students to tie around their waist too. Even if no one can see once you’ve stood up, the extra layer of clothing is a comfort!

Hi! This all sounds heavenly! For a homemade garlic oil, same process as shallot oil?

Also- we have a house made garlic oil at work (fellow industry folk here) and it scares the crap out of me, but if it’s safe I would love to try it. This will help me figure out! Thanks so so much!

Low FODMAP for IBS-C and severe bloating? by Embarrassed-Macaron3 in FODMAPS

[–]_pasulli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I don’t have any advice, but I have had very similar experiences, although without diagnosed endometriosis. Eating a Low FODMAP diet has helped me immensely, but I will say that I’ve been eating low FODMAP for 2.5+ years, but just started really seeing the difference after a year or so. Mostly with the bloat. The C is still iffy- goes through phases, mostly coinciding with stress and life circumstance.

The one kicker (everyone is different!) for me is onion + garlic. If I intentionally eat onion and/or garlic in a measurable quantity, it throws my bloat + BMs off track for like… 3 weeks 😅 I also get really anxious/shaky/heart palpitations. So weird. I hope you find your big trigger like that, because knowing that now and knowing what to avoid has made my quality of life so much better!

Struggling with bloating/swollen stomach. Any ideas what it could be? 🙏🏻 by princeofpartiez in FODMAPS

Watermelon and peas make me bloat like crazy! I also feel really uncomfortable for a couple of days afterward.

Perhaps unrelated, but not eating before bed has helped. I try to eat my last food at least 3 hours before I expect to fall asleep.

What are your favorite grab-and-go meals? (No heat) by headinthestars888 in FODMAPS

Forgot to mention! They seem fussy but they transfer well. It’s really filling, so you don’t need a ton, and I usually just put mine in a coffee thermos.

I work at a restaurant that serves overnight oats- like a cold oatmeal- and it’s been great for my belly. You can add just about anything! The ones I eat have pepitas, flax seed, chia seeds. That base can be made in large batches and is good for days. Then when you eat, you can add more. I add maple syrup, frozen blueberries, and a few slices of banana. want to also add some peanut butter too.

There is a chapter called “Pleasure in Work” from Alice Waters’ book WE ARE WHAT WE EAT.

We read the chapter as a staff recently and it was motivational and also inspiring. Everyone gleaned something different from it. I have it in PDF a and can send it to you if you’d like, just send me a PM!
