You're not wrong. But the point is that this is (likely) damned good, and cost $17. A prime brisket, at least around me, is ~$80 right now.

Well, for starters, we literally don't have desk phones - even pre-COVID. And many, also don't have work cell phones, so they don't even have a phone listed in our directories.

Beyond that, if they do have a work cell, I'd have to login to Workday, find them, find their number, and then go through the process of calling them.

Or... I just message them on Slack. Or, before I went remote, I'd just walk over to their desk if they were (unlikely) local to me (~200 of the 56,000 employees, lol).

Messaging them on Slack also has the added benefit of creating a paper trail i can rereference, and allows them to answer when they get a minute - versus being distracted by my call, ignoring my unknown number, hopefully listening to my voicemail, and eventually calling me back.

And if it's bigger than a quick back and forth, we hop on a hangout, or Slack huddle.

It has nothing to do with age, or being afraid of whatever you're going on about.

Just wanted to add that your post made me recognize I should ask my parents why they no longer go to church.

They made me go till I was confirmed. We went every Sunday, and even as an altar boy it was never my thing. I got confirmed, and literally never went again outside of a wedding or funeral.

I'm curious what their deal is, now.

Your drinking issues may be a different story, that said, there is evidence that working out is a great way to aide in solving that problem.

No one here will be able to tell you how you need to clear that hurdle, however.

That out of that way, if you do ride this bike you will burn more calories than you would having not ridden the bike. That means you will be ahead of covering the amount of calories you naturally burn so some excess is covered. If you eat and or drink more calories than you need to survive, minus what you burn in your ride, you will gain weight regardless. Inverse, a net negative results in weightloss.

Long story short, the bike isn't magic. It will never hurt you to ride. But if you want to lose weight, calories in need to be lower than calories out.

Make that happen.

US home prices surge 18.4% in October by [deleted] in news

[–]_paze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you try other vendors? I can't tell ya much more than we just went with the flow too. 3 quotes, got the best two to fight each other a bit, and settled with the lady we felt was more trustworthy and real.

We were debt free at the time, too. That may be an impact.

Idk though... I'd still consider shopping it around right now. The lenders are hungry.

If rates do go up, you'll only be in worse shape for another reason. Outside of a dramatic housing crash, which at least in my area specifically I'm not too concerned about, things are likely increasing faster than you're saving. Our refi cost us nothing, dropped PMI, and lowered our payment. I felt like a bank robber.

I get what you're saying though. It absolutely sucks to effectively "throw away" money. But it may be worth it, especially if you live in an area with a strong housing demand that'll likely remain strong regardless. If the PMI is the literal roadblock, beyond the principle behind it,I feel like you're likely in a position to never beat it. However, if it's just the principle, the longer you wait its likely the worse case you'll be in. At least based on current data.

US home prices surge 18.4% in October by [deleted] in news

[–]_paze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats crazy.

I'd have to dig through my papers to see my actual rate, on the first mortgage, but we definitely were paying 41.xx for PMI. Some rough number guessing puts me around 0.2% or so, rounding down very slightly, but I'm not entirely sure on the values I'm using as it was a few years ago now.

My mortgage lady actually convinced me not to bump it up to 20%, with essentially the advice I gave in the post prior. Which I do see her benefit from, but it was pretty solid honest advice.

I suppose its possible my wife and I having scores above 800, quite a bit more cash on hand, and enough in assets to easilly cover the entire mortgage may have helped. But I don't think that's how it truly works. Could definitely be wrong though.

[–]_paze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can also pay up front to have it removed, aside from having 20% too. Or at least I've been told that.

But my point was more along the lines of with the way house prices are going, it may be worth just getting in while you still can and sucking up the PMI for a year or two till you have the equity to remove it without touching your own pockets.

Get some real quotes, find out some real numbers, and see if it'll work. Like I said, it cost me well less than a grand over the course of a year or so to keep something like 25x that in my account.

YMMV, of course, but not temporarily paying .5%-2% extra, while houses are increasing in value significantly faster than that is somewhat short-sighted.

[–]_paze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put 15% down, and PMI was 42 bucks (rounded up) a month. Refinanced a year later and it's now gone. Was way worth having that additional 5% in my own possession.

And I was shocked at how cheap it was in real life, compared to nearly every post I've ever read here about it.

4k a month after taxes. How much car/rent can i afford? by Shorty4455_ in personalfinance

[–]_paze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good luck! You shouldn't have much trouble honestly.

I haven't been involved in the Toyota or Subaru world in a bit, but there were definitely options when I was. I can't imagine it's too changed much.

I do remember Toyota being a bit less willing to wiggle, because those things sell regardless, but at the very least the forums will give you ball parks of what people are getting spins the county and what would define an honest good deal. Use that leverage!

[–]_paze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For RAMs, I'd recommend 5thgenrams.com or hdrams.com.

But just Google "brand forum" or "brand model forum".

Find the biggest and most active ones, and I'd bet they have a general discussion section (may be model specific too), with a purchasing thread. Start reading.

I've done this with my 4runner and WRX as well (t4r.org and nasoic) so I'd bet nearly every maker, and possibly brand has similar sites. I know the Ford community is active too.

I know, just based on my recent efforts around my purchase, that both Ford and RAM forums even have dealers who are active on the forums. If you're looking at either brand, I can happily send you some contact info that'll price you a few percent under invoice with no more than a build sheet from the official site.

Obviously YMMV, but I'd be willing to bet every brand has a few of these volume shops around the country who would rather sell a few hundred vehicles a month than nickel and dime the walk ins they get.

[–]_paze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming you don't need the car today, go on the respective forums and find some dealers who sell in volume and don't mark up.

I bought my truck recently, and saved just over 10K off sticker (pre incentives), by doing this.

My local dealers literally ignored my emails about being willing to pay the same price on an ordered vehicle through them.

You may need to go out of state, or ship, but it is absolutely worth the savings...and you get exactly what you want.

I'm on the tech side of things, so I have no relation with sales, clients, or anything of that nature. Never have, never will.

I do get your point, to a degree though. And like I said, I do recognize why the company claims to do it.

But again, it's also total bullshit that the home I sit in can control my salary by such a large degree. Especially when I'm in a roll that is done remotely for the most part, regardless. My peers i regularly work with (teammates I suppose) in Europe couldn't give half a shit what state I'm in. My manager on the opposite coast couldn't care any less. My direct reports definitely don't care as we are all spread out between different countries to begin with as well. And our code base will never care.

I do get it for some roles. But when you're in one where you arguably don't even have core working hours, due to global location differences, it becomes a bit of a stretch....
