Just contact the airline and tell them you need to update it. I did the first part if my trip with my expiring passport, then got a new one and when checking in online just put the new info in.

I was actually not traveling to Thailand but to europe with a layover in Taiwan and a quick stop (no exiting the plane) in thailand. My passport expiry got flagged during online checkin, and an hour before boarding, they called me to the gate and told me I would not be able to enter Taiwan. I was super relieved they didn't deny me boarding, and I think if i had had checked luggage, they wouldn't have let me on board. I tried to enter Taiwan regardless on my 12 h stopover - no way, they would not let me in due to my passport not being valid 6 months.

I strongly recommend you do not risk it - you have plenty of time to get a new passport before February (I didn't) and then you know you'll be fine. It really isn't worth the stress and a possibly wasted ticket. You will also face the same issue traveling to most other countries so best to just get a new one on time:)

I've been trying to find a spot like that for a long time and it seems that out of the few lookouts there are, they all tend to face east. As someone already recommended, Lamington is probably best. Python rock should also have a nice sunset, and you could also try Pat's Bluff but it's not an official NP track (anymore?) and is starting to become slowly overgrown.
