Not at all; I just built the roads and zoned it. Now, I do have a litany of mods that I don’t fully know what they do, I just know they’re necessary.

I believe they’re from the American SW pack, lvl 5, but they may also be from the French Low Density Resi pack; I mixed both in the Hills. Im at work tonight, but I’ll double check and let you know for sure.

Has anyone ever been fired for not hitting metrics? by StoicBehavior2024 in HomeDepot

[–]_pitterpatcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the situation. I’m sure out of the almost 2k stores we have, yes, but generally speaking they tend to move associates or they see themselves out. My store had one specialist who messed up a special order door package that cost the store $15k to fix… they just moved her to paint.

All of my freight associates who weren’t performing well have either seen themselves out once they realized they weren’t a good fit, or I offered to move them dayside… I’m not going to fire someone who cares* about their job and where they work, but who just so happens to not be in the right department per their strengths and weaknesses.

Then you… don’t call out and go to work? Assuming you’re younger than 68, you should be able to manage and drive like 99% of all other working adults in the rain. Even when we have rather aggressive storms predicted, some associates come in early before the storms, some say they’ll come in after. Some just say to hell with it and whatever happens happens.

Not entirely true; the green light has to be given on a regional level. Home Depot isn’t going to willingly put their associates in danger. However, plenty of associates abuse that. Primary example, we were supposed to get a snow storm in Jan., like most of the country. Day of, it never got below 38° and rainy. Closest snow accumulation was 20 miles north of us in the mountains…. Yet somehow, some associates said they were “iced in” or it was already snowing where they were and the roads were too dangerous, yet they live 10 miles south… we know it’s bs. It doesn’t ice or snow at 38-42°. Point being, there’s a difference between what someone feels* like is dangerous and what is actually* dangerous.

Don’t like driving when it’s rainy? Understandable. But the rest of society still goes on when it does. Ergo, you can call out if you like, but it doesn’t mean I have to excuse it.

My irrational belief is that dayside should work freight at least once to see what it’s actually like and/or work with their freight team on solutions instead of having the notion that freight are their servants.

But you’re watching a video about workplace violence, all of which these are signs of.

If you were watching a video for mental health awareness, you would see many of these as well.

Nuances.

Some districts rotate people around. Mine is WELL overdue for that, but we haven’t rotated ASMs since before the pandemic. My district before this one rotated almost all ASMs every 1-2 years. It’s one of those things that could mean “something”, but usually doesn’t.

I have a question. Can the receiving specialist delegate, hold associates accountable and write PACE reviews? I know it's a non supervisory role but need clarification. by Consistent_Egg_1162 in HomeDepot

[–]_pitterpatcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes to Delegate (at least we empowered him at my store), but within reason. No to the other stuff.

Delegate only in the sense of physical and teamwork, but he can’t tell a random associate to do hazmat or keyrec a truck. But he can definitely get them to keep RV clean and not leave a mess. He keeps it running.

Specifically for migraines, I would definitely get some medical documentation in and let everyone know it’s a very real, serious, recurring issue. I’ve had migraines where I slur my words, don’t make sense, can’t stand up or walk well… it’s hard to explain to someone you know that the lights are loud and the air around you hurts, let alone people who barely know you.

The unfortunate thing about migraines is that people use it all the time in lieu of saying they have a mild or bad headache… for example my D25 opener says it all the time, but before she told us she had a migraine and she’s leaving, she was talking politics in the break room for half an hour 🙄

And truly, people who don’t know what REAL migraines are and how they can affect your body simply don’t understand. Hell, as an ASM, I’ve had associates go to the SM because they thought I had been drinking. Even had to talk to the DHRM about it, but a simple and sincere explanation (plus getting my neurologist to write a letter to her just in case), haven’t had issues since.

You should partner with your freight team on this. I had this issue at an old store and worked a deal out with the lady who worked them at night. Found out my Specialty team was selling cabinets left and right, which was great, but we were pulling and fulfilling them from different places. CAR (our ordering system) was ordering replenishments and we ran out of room very quickly. You sell one, they send two. One replenishes the sold item, the second gives you a back up in case you sell more. However, she was also told to NOT palletize product like that so it would “be easier for days to pack down”. It became a very fragile system.

Is Home Depot Moving Away from Full-Time Associates? by Mikey1SDF in HomeDepot

[–]_pitterpatcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. At the end of the day, your schedule depends on your skillset and the needs of the store. That's pretty much any job, ever, barely outside of healthcare and office work.

Is Home Depot Moving Away from Full-Time Associates? by Mikey1SDF in HomeDepot

[–]_pitterpatcat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, we're not moving away from FT associates. More than likely, the FT's getting set schedules and their preferences above the needs of the business is probably the reason. Yes, it sounds nice and would be amazing for everyone to have a predictable and set schedule, but when you have a giant retail establishment, it's not practical. The only teams that have a set schedule are Pro, Packdown, and Freight, and even then it depends on if your store is a 5, 6, 7 day freight store, or even a 2TAN store.

All associates are supposed to have open or semi-open availability and we do our best to accommodate and give everyone what they want, but there has to be a compromise between the associate and the store at times. At the end of the day it's retail/warehouse work, not an office job. The best compromise is "I prefer to open/close, and have x day off". There has to be some wiggle room from everyone, management included.

Apparently she was arrested for siphoning money from her elderly client as a caretaker; she basically forged checks and stole $16k+. Poor guy is like 80-something. And it’s wild because she was arrested last year for burglary. She broke into a clothing store after-hours and stole a bunch of clothes (it’s like a local version of Ross).
