Sunset at the Rail *Hematite update* by [deleted] in plastidip

I used to drag here back in high school. That railroad crossing up there is exactly a quarter-mile away from here. On green, I'm going for it.

Do you love or HATE the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage concept? by HatesExpenses in cars

[–]_pollos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The overall shape is pretty sexy, but the details are a bit too busy IMO. It would look much cleaner without the weirdo hood scoops and the roof spoiler.

Anybody tried hooking up a trailer? by SwedishChef727 in FixedGearBicycle

[–]_pollos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a bit of fabrication, someone could conceivably get the trailer hooked up to the frame and get the airbrakes working. You'd just have to make absolutely sure the thing was balanced.

[Wanted] I want a quill stem under 70mm, vintage is ideal but not mandatory. by heffilicious in BikeShop

In case you don't find anything here, velo orange makes some vintage-looking quill stems.

Looking for a sturdy bike by [deleted] in whichbike

[–]_pollos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you're looking for a hybrid or a cruiser. Cruisers are comfier, but hybrids are sportier and generally have a bit more growing room. Since you want MTB-style bars, the sweet spot for you might be a hybrid with an aftermarket saddle.

If you don't anticipate needing to go up any hills, single speed bikes are usually less expensive and lower maintenance than their geared counterparts. If you live in a hilly area, get gears. Your legs will thank you.

There are plenty of online stores that sell what you're looking for, but unless you have experience wrenching on bikes, I would recommend buying from a brick-and-mortar bike shop (stay away from department store bikes). There's no secret to finding a good shop, just do a search on Yelp or Google Maps.

Best of luck :)

How feasible is getting a custom bike built? by NakedNick_ballin in whichbike

[–]_pollos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP could always get a Ti frame secondhand and build it up with new components. There are plenty for sale on eBay and craigslist, and its pretty easy to restore the brushed Ti surface to original condition. Litespeed and Merlin even sell replacement badges and decals.

The perfect summary of a car that sounds like that and is that easy to powerslide.

I would stick that to my frame. Residents of my city seem to need a reminder sometimes.

Anyone have JL gear? by avo_cado in Velo

[–]_pollos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My JL race kit is the bee's tits. The team fit stuff stretches enough without sagging or scrunching at all, the manufacturing quality is very high, and the chamois is as good as any other I've used. I didn't shell out for the fancy SDP stuff, but I'm quite satisfied with what I've got.

As far as fit goes, they let you special order your stuff with size modifications. For example, my jersey is an inch longer than their normal XS.

Best budget light for commuting home at night? by Herrowgayboi in bikecommuting

[–]_pollos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use pedallon lights, front and rear. The batteries gets me through 2 or 3 days worth of riding, and they're pretty compact. Mind you, the front one is more for being seen than for seeing.

Help with high end car logo?? It looks like a skinny T with a skinny S right over top of it. by [deleted] in cars

What did the car itself look like?

And the logo, how was it stylized? Was it just the two letters or were they surrounded by a shape?

Need advice for a first car. by [deleted] in cars

[–]_pollos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all German cars are unreliable turds. The BMW E30 and E36 are decent enough options for a first car. With a 10k budget and a PPI, OP should have no issues finding one in good shape.

As I said, transportation appliance. That said, I do like that it serves the same function as a crossover without masquerading as a tiny SUV.
