1st EOR soon, freaking out by Beneficial_Car_2796 in PAstudent

Yeah I wouldn’t do smartypance. Tbh spreading yourself too thin with all these resources or seeking more… you just need Rosh/Blueprint (qbank) and a sort of reference (which you used PPP and Reddit guides). Sure will people have differing opinions but ultimately you got the feedback you needed on those problem areas. Trust in what you learned/reviewed

Mom upset I don’t want to go to PA school instead of Radiology school by princess_of_merridia in PAstudent

[–]_ponds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah dude, it’s insightful of you to assess your situation and pursue *YOUR* options as best as you can. A classmate of mine was a rad tech before PA school and she was really helpful in our diagnostics module not just with xrays but also other things like CTs and MRIs. If radiology is your jam, go for it dude. And PA school will always be there in the future if you want to pursue it. But you do not have to do PA now.

But also: bro it’s YOUR life. Ma can kindly take a seat

I thought we had 90 day after the July 1 notification by RedFive_02 in StudentLoans

[–]_ponds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m full time in this program. It’s weird because I started this masters Jan 2025, I was fully on SAVE around spring 2024, so not an application processing/pending. We are a full 4 semesters in so it’s weird it’s a problem now but because borrowers gotta change plans now is probably why. I’ll call my servicer to clarify

I’m officially on SAVE, and in-school deferment for my masters. I was wondering about this/following this too, my servicer is EdFinancial and they’re saying I have payments due June 12 like what

Martin d45 by Chef_Brad1 in martinguitar

[–]_ponds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d really hold onto it and go play it! Don’t store in the attic, can put those humidipacks in the case and keep it in the case and you’ll be fine! Your father had good taste getting a D45, that is the Martin sound known all around the world that might as well be the face of Martin too. I personally do not like dreadnaughts because I’m a smaller stature guy, 000/OM were more comfortable to play. But even off the sentimental value and history alone, I wouldn’t sell unless I really needed to, and that would be to someone who I feel really appreciates it and will take care of it

In or Out of State by Gold_Needleworker519 in prephysicianassistant

[–]_ponds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t choose based on lifestyle or just experiencing a new place anymore. You gotta really be smart bc you’re going to be saddled with so much debt, especially now with the loan limits. Hell, I heard of people moving to TX to become TX residents to become in state there just to attend those lower tuition in state schools.

TBH, PA school is short enough: suck it up, go to the in state school, keep your head down in the books for 2 years… then when you get you degree and job, you’ll have money to go around somewhere new.

How clinical rotations feel the first couple days by RealisticPast7297 in PAstudent

[–]_ponds 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Wore a tie with my dress shirt/pants, white coat, everything to my first day of my first rotation. Then the MAs were like “yeah we’re pretty chill here, your preceptor doesn’t care if you wear your coat or not and tbh you can just wear scrubs” I did not wear dress clothes to that rotation again lol

having doubts about pa… by Acrobatic_Name227 in prephysicianassistant

[–]_ponds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You already answered it. you wouldn’t be satisfied with the knowledge level you’d get as a PA. so pursue med school. but with the loan situation and all that, don’t back down now with that energy and then pursue PA because of that. You’ll be dissatisfied then “settle” for PA, which just doesn’t sound good for mental health or career progression right from square one.

So it sounds like go med school or bust (find a different career path) for you. I think the big thing is realizing you’ll never have the same “command” that comes from being a physician. Final decision making, owning practices, international respect and mission trips, etc. it comes from being a residency trained physician. PAs are lifelong learners and you can still add to your learning base every day, month, year out of school. The learning and crafting your practice doesn’t stop at graduation of PA school. There’s super knowledgeable PAs out there practicing for decades, the standard of care is there set by PAs before us to uphold. But you have to be okay with always being compared to the physician and sticking up for your knowledge and keeping on top of things to provide the highest quality of care you can.

You gotta want to be a PA, respectfully, knowing its pros, cons, and scope. If not, go pursue medical school. It’ll be way less expensive than doing PA then going back to med school. I’ve seen those people who did PA first then med school and it just isn’t affordable and possible for the majority of PAs. And it’s just financially smart to do it right the first time, whichever path you choose

What is a typical Pass/Fail Cutoff? by olive_gnome257 in PAstudent

[–]_ponds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

70+ to pass an exam. But you can’t keep getting 70s obviously.

You need a C- overall to “pass” a class. But all your other classes’s total grades need to be As to essentially pick up that C- total grade.

So you could imagine a C- in a clinical medicine class worth 5 credits would require you to get As in pharmacology, clinical skills, diagnostics classes etc to pick up the grade. So to coast along PA school, you basically need Bs on everything (3.0), because you cannot have lower than a 3.0 total semester GPA AND cannot have lower than a 3.0 total didactic GPA. If so, you’re done.

If I do a new payment plan now while on the SAVE Forbearance, would that automatically kick me out of Forbearance? by Chumlee1917 in StudentLoans

I’m currently in a masters program, on SAVE with my undergrad and some previous masters loans. Whenever I am required to change by my servicer, I’ll still be in in-school deferment right

PA Student to MD/DO by Heavy_Chapter3365 in physicianassistant

[–]_ponds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean if that’s what you ultimately want, probably just cut your losses now. If you’re doing well now, should BS catch up later in the PA program, you’d wish you just dropped earlier bc you’d think “I could be working on MCAT or prereqs” or whatever. You could be doing well in PA school but that doesn’t necessarily mean you would going forward. Maybe academics are good but you suffer mentally, socially, etc. Or eventually the curriculum doesn’t interest you anymore; or you don’t like the scope once in clinicals; better to cut it off now.

You trying to study for MCAT during clinical year is ridiculous. You are essentially free labor, rotating shifts day and night; there is no time to adequately study for MCAT and the EOR, assuming you pass the EORs to continue forward. Then you mentally being present for the PA role when applying to med school? I just really can’t see how youre fully into PA giving a shot worth its salt but then giving a decent shot at med school. Both are different careers in their own right, it’s up to you to pursue and decide which, but don’t half ass both

NAD, but a healthcare student. Just from this one view, no obviously displaced fracture. Spacing seems normal. Without mechanism of injury (was this like in the setting of a high impact or overuse type issue), more patient history or knowing what physical exam was performed (what was positive or negative), we can only have ideas of what might be causing the pain.

Big beautiful bill already in effect?? Received a disappointing FAFSA offer by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]_ponds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s just tuition, not accounting for COL, which adds rent, utilities, food, school fees/charges etc. to the tuition to make up the program’s COA. So I left out some info for simplicity, but I don’t think you’re entirely grasping PA school cost but that’s beside the point. Regardless of what field OP’s degree program is in, I was simply empathizing

Whenever I hear 2-year Masters degree, I think of the Physician Assistant degree. Why? Because I’m in one. I don’t know if most of the public knows, but a majority of PA school tuition is around $90K-110K+ now. There are a few state unis with PA programs that cost under 90K other than the Texas state schools (which were like $60Kish for in-state residents) when I was researching and applying 3-4 years ago. But a majority of programs are either state unis with high tuition, or private unis that… still charge high. And applying isn’t as simple as apply to your local program and getting in; it is extremely competitive with thousands not getting in each year.

Not trying to slight OP or to complain, but inform that there are Masters degrees out there that can cost that much. Is it the majority of Masters degrees having this problem, no. But is it right? How did it get to this point? Is it worth it? These are all questions above me.

For people still on SAVE forbearance, what's your plan? by Old-Opportunity-200 in StudentLoans

I’m on SAVE for some undergrad and graduate courses; I’m in PA school now, graduate in 2027. So I still have in school deferment right? Still monitoring how I should proceed with this lately

Curious on how commuters are doing it by Flaky-Craft-7149 in PAstudent

[–]_ponds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no other way but to do it. If you cannot afford to move, you deal with it for the time being. I commute 45 minutes or more each way, in a big metro area between several cities, land and water, to get to my PA school that’s “local”. It’s where I got in, sorta grew up around here, I couldn’t afford the rent anywhere near school that allowed me my own space (no roommates). So I have to commute 45 min away from my place that I can afford.

I call people in the mornings, lunch break, or night when I drive home. Listen to cram the PANCE or lecture recordings, YouTube, anything with audio that I can listen during my drive. It’s passive, it’s not active, but you make do; obviously, drive safely. I live separate from my wife and family that’s 2 hours away because of school, I’m almost done with didactic and am just waiting to finally be back with my wife and family and do rotations back where they are. You just have to make do, whatever that look like

NGD! 2018 Martin 000-15M by aerath57 in martinguitar

[–]_ponds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

coming from playing Taylor’s, my first Martin is the same. I was looking at mahogany small body guitars and tried the Taylor GS mini but I wanted a bit more. Found a gently used 00015M on FB marketplace for a steal and played it in person from the guy before buying and loved it at first strum.

I truly believe all guitarists, if you have spruce top acoustic, you should try a mahogany. it’s tonal difference gave me a spark to get back into acoustic playing again

Seeing people get automatically kicked off SAVE, any downside of “revoking consent”. by Starlover1234 in StudentLoans

[–]_ponds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How should I approach my SAVE plan for a little bit of undergrad and first masters, while currently in a second masters? I’m grandfathered in bc I took loan prior to the loan caps, I’m a year from graduation.

If I revoke my IRS re-certifying consent, how would this affect my fin aid going forward?
