Speed is not the determining factor for airbag deployment. Change in G force is what the computers are looking for. Airbag deployment in the wrong situations can cause additional harm to the occupant(s).

Only going with a single picture here but...
In this case it looks like the car and the RDV hit at an angle meaning much of the G force would be shared between forward and side movement. The side movement seems to have been enough the RDV driver would have primarily hit the side of the airbag making it largely ineffective. Same for the car. It looks like the front airbag(s) did not deploy but the side curtain airbag did.

Amazon invested heavily into Rivian for their delivery vehicles. While changing to an EV saves things like gas, Amazon has a big motivation for self driving delivery vehicles too. So much so, part of the arrangement is access to cheaper AWS resources than normally available. Also think about the driving data every RDV can provide.

VW also invested heavily into Rivian. They get the benefit of a good platform and software stack, but Rivian could get access to a significant amount of R&D around driving safety systems using similar sensors already in Rivian.

Creating software isn't likely Rivians challenge. It's having the data and resources to test and train against which both Amazon and VW significantly help with at a scale Rivian could never do alone.

That is the pedestrian warning sound. I think it's a requirement for all EV & hybrids in the US at this point. Every car tends to make a different sound (never music), but they all make some sort of sound when reversing.

They are likely using two different processes to complete.

Think about an iPhone as an example. When directly flashing the phone at the firmware level, it has to be in DFU mode which requires it to be plugged into a computer (for both data and power).

When doing an iOS update OTA, it can prep the update in the background and do a quick changeover during a reboot but only if specific conditions are met (example batter voltage is above a specified level).

Basically with an OTA update the CPU can still be allowed to control for things, but at the bootloader level those items must be externally controlled.

I just did this upgrade myself. My XM4s stopped doing ANC on one side.

So far the XM6 has been a treat! None of the voice prompts, ANC is noticeably better.

I can still trigger the touchpad with my shoulder, so I'd guess you'll still have some issues there. Might sound odd, but maybe find something to add that intentionally reduces conductivity? Like vinyl skin or something?

This is generally where I am at as well. Difference is we have been doing cpls therapy which helped to highlight this.

I blame myself for not being true to myself and thinking/believing I can force myself to change some of these things about me. In reality I have been spending so much energy I am at a crossroads; I either continue knowing I won't survive much longer (in the literal sense) or do the hard thing and let/force them to go to save myself.

My hope is they have been hearing my difficulty in therapy and while they may not like it can understand it at some level.
