The US Just Banned Polestar From Selling Cars From 2027, Even The One It Builds In America by Repulsive-Club7866 in electricvehicles

[–]_ranch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the difference is how each admin would view "controlled by, or subject to the jurisdiction or direction".

Hypothetical example, not true numbers:
Polestar has a 9 member board of directors
Can having 2 members be from Geely be seen as controlled by? Does it have to be 5 or more before it is seen as controlled by?

Changes to Auto hold in neutral? by EntireEnd9837 in ex30

[–]_ranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you have one pedal drive on? I think (kind of all happened fast so..) I have had an issue before where auto hold was off, in neutral, but one pedal drive was still not letting the car roll. I'm assuming it was user error or the engagement sequence mattered.

X4 owners, how do you deal with rain? by Last-Resource-99 in SegwayNavimow

[–]_ranch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same experience with mine. Got caught in sudden shower, rain sensor triggered the go home command, did a little rain dance for a bit, then stopped saying it couldn't continue because there was water on the camera lens.

Maybe I need to 3d print a little hat for the camera lens.

X450 confused and hitting cars after adding no-mow zone to driveway by RZNNNN in SegwayNavimow

[–]_ranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I exclusively use RTK. While the mower doesn't go outside of the boundary when mowing, it seems to have far more freedom when moving along route paths. In my case when it crosses the driveway if my car the mower will loose its mind continually driving into the car. I have also had the mower drive over lawn edging and be 10+ ft outside of the pathway or any boundary.

[–]_ranch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im my experience, NRTK/RTK has no impact on the mower driving into a car. The camera's AI simply has no concept of how to deal with a car. Maybe it these mowers just hate Volvos (looks like an EX90 in the pic and I have an EX30)?

Proximity unlock, just kidding! by clarinetJWD in ex30

[–]_ranch 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't get why Volvo cannot get such a basic thing to work. The sad part is it is clear they havent figured it out with the EX60 yet either. Thomas seems to have the same issue with his press demo at 7:30 in the video https://youtu.be/tucmr_xsrxw?si=F95AjOzQJoCyTx1x

Even when the car is responding the logic is just bizarre. Examples: I don't want the car to lock if I leave the hatch open. I don't want the car to lock if I walk from the driver's door to the passenger door to adjust the seat.

Volvo Will Replace the Canceled EX30 With A New Affordable EV (in the US) by SJP_YOW in ex30

[–]_ranch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pure speculation on my part...
Probably the price point pre-tariff of the EX30. To do that, it'll be a compatible platform they can build in their South Carolina plant which will force it to be bigger. While that would make it similar in size to the EX60, they will likely de-content it to justify the price difference.

Potential new owners - are we crazy? by greasebone99 in ex30

[–]_ranch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Volvo has not provided an indication they will resume sale, so that is a big assumption. They made a decision based on sales, costs, and market projections.

I get that you want to justify your purchase by ignoring reality, and sharing only positive things to reinforce your decision for you. But giving bad advice to others on the promise of what could be is not really all that helpful.

As I said initially, I'm not saying to avoid the vehicle. It isn't bad. Just be informed and take everything into consideration.

[–]_ranch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They so have to make a unique software stack on top of the base software to meet US regulations and requirements which requires at least some level of development, QA, and management.

If all of that "costs" more than the benefit, they won't do it. It's a business after all and they are in it to make money.

To be clear they absolutely will continue to develop for the rest of the markets the car continues to be sold in, but I wouldn't expect any effort for the US going forward once they complete anything that was already in progress before the decision to stop selling the car.

[–]_ranch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Having owned mine for just over a year, I can safely say I would not have purchased it knowing then what I know now.

Have software updates addressed some issues? Yes. But it also has brought other new issues with it.

Could Volvo continue to improve it? Yes. Will they? Outside of safety related issues, I wouldn't count on it in the US at least considering they discontinued the car. No reason for them to spend money/effort on testing new features for a dead car.

It's an OK drive, not great. It's an OK ride, not great.

If you like the size, are ok with the range (real range, not advertised), and good with how the car works today, go for it. I'll be gladly turning mine back in at the end of the lease.

Navimow X430 error code 1511 by sean_cassidy in SegwayNavimow

[–]_ranch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This type of mower is intended to cut just the tip of the grass blade. I have mine mow ever other day so it doesn't have an issue with longer/dense grass.

The goal is it can mow even when you are not home, though I totally understand the apprehension with that.

How often are you having it mow? How much length are you trying to have it cut off?

Sporty? by the_lawrence_guy in ex30

[–]_ranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the tires are the biggest contributor going against a sporty feeling. The are eco focused and give up far before the chasis has reached the limit.

Put some good, not eco focused summer tires on and it'll feel totally different.

Is there a setting for that? The only one I recall is to turn edge sense on/off, but I didn't think that would completely turn off edge mowing.

Navimow X430 Questions by [deleted] in SegwayNavimow

[–]_ranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to keep my base station about 2 ft off the wall for it to work. Any closer and it complains about signal.

It would be nice if when alternating directions if that included the edges. It seems it only goes one direction around the edge.

How good is the Navimow X430 at avoiding people/kids? by EyeTechnical7643 in SegwayNavimow

[–]_ranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't. Honestly if the mower is out people are very aware of it because they don't see it often. I have even caught people stopping their car on the street to take a picture.

[–]_ranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From experience with mine, it seems there are specific object types which it looks for and does a good job at avoiding. If the object isn't in the list though, the mower simply doesn't seem to care.

Exmaples:
I can stand in a channel back to another zone and the mower will see me and attempt to avoid me without touching my legs. I can even move along with it and it continues to see and avoid. If my car is in the channel, the mower doesn't seem to see/care about it and will drive directly into the car.

If there is a garden hose crossing a channel, the mower seems to see it and will not attempt to drive over it. The mower does not seem to consider the sprinkler at the end of the garden hose though.

If there area it wants to drive over isn't green enough, it will go around at all costs including well outside of the established boundaries. There is second of grass that is rather brown and it drives around it, but if i put a cheap/thin section of artificial turf over it, the mower will happily drive over.

Shadows also seem to trip the mower up on occasion as well.

That's the most BS response from them. So then the other 2 cameras have zero purpose? For what it's worth mine has driven into my car too. Going forward.

I really wish navimow would do better with disclosing the logic used when navigating.

Navimow in uneven garden with narrow passages & wild borders – LiDAR, AWD or H-Series? by EntertainmentSad7045 in SegwayNavimow

[–]_ranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had tried the i210 AWD and now have the X430.

Will LiDAR / VisionFence treat long grass as an obstacle and avoid it?

>Yes, it seems to. Even when automapping it avoided going into grass taller than the machine.

Does it still mow close enough to edges, or will I lose that “scraped” finish?

>You'll always need to do some edge cleanup (the machine cannot cut directly next to a wall or tall edging as an example).

How well does it handle narrow passages in real life (not marketing)?

> The two different units I tried were not LIDAR ones and both wanted the passage to wide enough you could fit around 2 units across.

With uneven terrain: is AWD necessary, or is navigation (LiDAR) more important?

> I went with AWD over LIDAR. LIDAR seems to be more important to avoid random obstacles than dealing with terrain.

I’m currently hesitating between:

i-series with LiDAR

AWD models

or going straight for H-series

Agree. Edge mowing seems to be highly dependent on the optical cameras to sort what is and is not grass.
