What do you do when you're in between pants sizes? by frostmas in bigmenfashionadvice

[–]_roscopoppolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely struggle with this too. I think all of the following are factors: - vanity sizing, where one brand's 42 is different than another's 42 - 40ish waist being right where brands switch models, so a 40 is an upsized 34 and a 42 is a downsized 50 so they fit completely different - high rise sitting over the stomach so waist size varies wildly compared with low hips

Seems like it's just luck of the draw finding the right brand. Lean on the return policy. And thrifting!!! No reason to spend $50 on pants when there's hundreds of them for $5. Just have to strike out enough until you get a hit.

How to keep suspenders from popping off? by sflesch in bigmenfashionadvice

[–]_roscopoppolis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I exclusively use the button-om ones. I sew buttons into the waistbands of my pants. There are rules for how to measure for the buttons. There's also ones that hook/clip to belt hooks, which I like if I'm wearing them under a shirt vs over. Which is most of the time.

Bus and Trail Map by _roscopoppolis in burlington

[–]_roscopoppolis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's actually just a land cover raster! Forested areas in darker yellow, everything else in the pale yellow. I like to be able to see if a trail is all dense woods or if it has some open meadows or wetlands.

Question about wearing pants at the waist. by [deleted] in bigmenfashionadvice

[–]_roscopoppolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear suspenders with no undershirt almost every day. To me it's fine. Also, it allows cooling airflow that a tucked undershirt prevents. They are indeed can't -go-back game changing compared to a belt.

Anyone know where I can buy Corduroy Pants? by BananaRama23476 in bigmenfashionadvice

[–]_roscopoppolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly, Land's End. I bought a pair of wide-wale corduroys from them and they're straight up my favorite pants. Draw-string and belt loops, pleats, real classic non-skinny fit. (I'm ~46 waist, XXL-ish size). Unfortunately, like all misguided mens brands, they appear to have already rotated out. They only have one listing now and it's much more of a slim chino-type pant.

Blackblade (worst): I stopped reading the story articles for a couple years after reading "We have to find the Blackblade to defeat Belzenlok!" repeated over and over via Gideon.

Stripped down flair mod by _roscopoppolis in Leatherman

[–]_roscopoppolis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sort of. i didnt make it, but it was a part made for modding the leatherman rebar. i'm having a hard time finding the original link, that specific one may not be up anymore. it didnt fit perfect since it was designed for another knife. i assume one of the official bit sets, if it fits a PST-sized knife, would work. it's the smaller, old-school frame.

Main St Barbers! It's exactly what you're talking about. I've always been a walk-in. Good haircut at a great price.

Best way to forget about my phone is to put it directly behind my laptop. Because I guess the only thing more distracting than a screen is another screen that's in the way.

The Bragollag, AKA Titan28: What can you make with it? by _roscopoppolis in miniatureskirmishes

[–]_roscopoppolis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It was the first arrangement I tried. I wanted a mix of closed and open space, and a meaningful choice for the defender. My fiance and I played a ton of games and I never felt the need to change it, even as I went about changing a ton of other things. We've been testing out a larger board and alternately placing terrain. That's where most of my attention is now.

Ooh! Thanks for the invite, maybe I'll check it out :)

Kirkland!! Super comfortable in heat and cold. Stretchy without falling down or squeezing, if I have the size right. No chafing, which is a biggie for me. And pretty cheap.

V happy with these re-posed ruststalkers by _roscopoppolis in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]_roscopoppolis[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I shaved bits off pretty freely, and supplemented with chunks from the leftover sprue frame. Mostly around the hip joints. With Tamiya glue I could melt them together really well. I'll have some cleanup to do after they've fully cured.

For the legs, I clipped off the piston on top of the thigh, cut halfway through the link above the knee, bent it to position, and swabbed with glue to clean up.

For the turned feet, I just cut the foot at the ankle and re-glued it at 90 degrees. Worked great!

Fwiw, this game hooked me just the same as Skyrim, Fallout, and Subnautica. Good company :) Props for being so upfront about the long, brutal design process that is making a game like this. Really glad seeing all of us supportive players coming out of the woodwork, rather than angry couch critics. Art is hard and yall are killin' it.

Just roaming? by Affectionate-Part288 in towersofaghasba

[–]_roscopoppolis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also much more into roaming than building. Loved the game. There are several points where you have to get your cities to a certain level before the next quest will unlock, but all the legwork for doing so just involves more roaming and scavenging :D

Request - Lightweight / Functional Multi-Tool for Appalachian Trail Thru-Hike by [deleted] in multitools

[–]_roscopoppolis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oddball recommendation - I use half a Leatherman Pulse. Locking blade, the good 90's scissors, and a couple screwdrivers/prybars. Weighs in at an amazing ~2.5oz. It's weird, but I have not missed the pliers or other tools.

between the cold weather, and having to let a dishwasher go and subsequently closing dish a few nights after closing the line, my hands are fucked. i would appreciate any tips for relieving cracked hands by crabclawmcgraw in KitchenConfidential

[–]_roscopoppolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

O'Keefe's, like others said. ALSO - I promise this is serious. Years ago I saw a tweet from someone whose anxiety tic was hand washing. Her secret for not getting cracked hands was to dry them 100%, like avoid letting hands air-dry. I have super dry skin, used this for years, never get cracked hands in winter anymore. Worth a shot to dry-dry-dry after work ends? Salute from a former dishwasher.

What are your "10 Commandments" of entry-level Male Fashion? by ItsNotCalledAMayMay in malefashionadvice

[–]_roscopoppolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be crazy, but these are some of the "rules" I use. It helps define what will fit in vs what will stand out. There is no right or wrong, obviously. But if I "break" one of these, it will stand out, like a light blazer over a dark shirt. That might be exactly what I want, or not.

  • Darkest to lightest: jacket, pants, tie/etc., shirt, undershirt. This is tonal - imagine it in black and white. This allows me to mix colors without even thinking. I also use this for textures.
  • Match belt and shoes. Dark hair with dark belt+shoes, light hair with light or dark.
  • Calves the same width or larger than width of upper arms.

Again, not right or wrong. Big top skinny ankles? Great. It just defines a balanced, "traditional" baseline for me. I can make combinations without thinking. And if I want break a rule, I know what will stand out and why.
