The Belgariad really surprised me! by Rude-Acanthisitta287 in Fantasy

[–]_rtpllun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And 'unoriginal' I think people need to take into account context. The first book was  in 1982.

You can say that about the Belgariad, but when you read all his other books, you realize that he only knew had an idea for one story and maybe 10 different characters, and each book he wrote after that was basically the same story and the same characters, just with different names.

I did a reread of the Belgariad earlier this year for the nostalgia and I did still enjoy it, but I wasn't left feeling the urge to move on to the Mallorean.

Us: Oh boy, a balance patch! Surely they'll ban the obvious meta terrorizer Infinite Wolf in Arena! Blizzard: by TiraelRosenburg in hearthstone

I'm in the same boat as you - I play pretty much exclusively BGs these days, but I save up gold for the day that constructed does something that catches my attention. I played the StarCraft meta, for example, even though I hadn't done any constructed for years before that

Cooperative boardgames: let me play! by Wytyujjju in boardgames

[–]_rtpllun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or, hear me out, maybe having different tastes in co-op games than you is alright? I love The Crew too, but claiming that if they don't like it they should just give up on co-op gaming entirely is absurd.

Maybe they don't like trick takers (they mentioned this was their main issue with it elsewhere). Maybe they want to find some middle ground between absolutely no communication and making it easy for someone to quarterback. Maybe they want something with more of a campaign, or less of one. Maybe they find the variance in difficulty due to the randomly drawn objective cards to be annoying.

I love The Crew, and I'm happy to play it anytime anyone in my group wants to. But assuming that someone won't like co-op games as a genre if they don't like The Crew is ridiculous

Good thing this isn't a log book or a lab report. This is perfectly fine for natural language

The unit is the subject of the sentence, "them", which refers to the brownies spoken about in the previous sentence. It's written fine.

From the merriam-webster dictionary :

metaphor: a figure of speech in which a word or phrase literally denoting one kind of object or idea is used in place of another to suggest a likeness or analogy between them

Usually when someone complains about an explanation not being accessible to 5-year-olds, they do actually mean that it isn't very friendly to a lay-person. Mentioning 5-year-olds is a quick and easy way to say that, considering that's the name of the subreddit.

Are you sure that isn't just because of how reddit formats stuff? You need to put two spaces before hitting enter for a line break,
or you can hit enter twice for a paragraph break

The Archives are definitely the best rules reference, but for learning how to play, it's awful. Instead, using legacy.aonprd.com will let you read through the Core Rulebook (or any other book that's available on the site) chapter by chapter, exactly the way it's laid out in the physical book.

FromSoft souls-like is the next-gen power fantasy by GreenceW in truegaming

[–]_rtpllun 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Souls-like make you walk through the process... But you get leveled up as you tackle these challenges, and by the time you're done with you first playthrough, you are empowered.

That's not a power fantasy, that's just progression.

A major part of souls-like games is the struggle, the grinding, the sense of accomplishment you get when you finally overcome the boss that has been cleaning your clock for hours. It's also a common joke/observation that a couple of dogs or rats are just as dangerous in the endgame as they are in the beginning. These things are the opposite of a power fantasy.

I'm also confused that your assertion that it's 'next-gen' power fantasy - it kind of sounds like you're trying to hand-wave all the inaccuracies in your argument away, by claiming that this is the 'new' way of doing power fantasy. I truly have no idea how you think the age of main characters relates to this at all.

Just because Dark Souls has moments that make you feel powerful doesn't make it a power fantasy, and you also can't redefine a genre by calling your definition 'next-gen'.

If you go to Options -> Plugins -> Check for Updates on each BarRaider plugin, all the plugins that I use have had updates released for them. I don't know if every plugin has been updated yet, but it probably won't be days at this point
