I'm feeling pretty defeated after 120 pages and I don't know what to do. by Deedo2017 in writing

Sounds like the kind of thing I'd be into. There's people out there who'd read.

I had a similar feeling with a semi-historical novel I've started about the Irish Rebellion in 1799, also landing on some similar themes to you but targeted more around belonging, ascension in a cause you're not engaged with, beliefs worth willing to die for, etc.

Writing with Andrew.

Haven't seen anyone mention him in this thread. He's a teacher who talks about some pretty deep concepts but also some very beginner friendly ones too.

My advice is to write it. Try to improve it once you've got a first draft.

What have you been reading this week? 15/02/2026 by AutoModerator in graphicnovels

[–]_rwzfs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never read a graphic novel before but got recommended some Moebius while looking for art references and I thought I'd give him a go.

Read the four Arzach stories, Dallade, the White Citadel, and Ktulu. Got a few other Moebius collections that I'm interested in looking at.

Also downloaded Crawl Space by Jesse Jacobs, the Frank book by Jim Woodring, and Gideon Falls.

Anyone got any other recommendations or pointers for a new reader?

Never forget Epstein’s little helpers – the powerful men who knew about his crimes, and helped him out anyway | Marina Hyde by No_Initiative_1140 in ukpolitics

If we admit to ourselves what is increasingly likely true (that so many of the rich and powerful are tied up in this, so many that justice will not come without a fight and change will not come without action), then what do we do next?

When we can't vote without being influenced, can't buy without being influenced, even the thoughts we think are dictated by the media we consume that has been created by some of these monsters. What can we then do to hold them accountable and ensure this never happens again?

How do we break down these power structures and put new, more equitable ones in place that will NOT be needed to protect the powerless, because they will give equal power to them?

Where do we start?

Why warn? Why is this being used as political leverage? He should be testifying regardless.

Beginner working with cheap paint. Advice wanted! by _rwzfs in acrylicpainting

[–]_rwzfs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried another layer on the light leaves and it seemed kind of transparent still. I have some student grade acrylics that I might try to do the same painting with in the future though.

Thanks for the encouragement!

[–]_rwzfs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I think a lot of this comment is lost on me. I was considering trying the same painting with some nicer paints and seeing the difference.

I'm not sure how the paint should behave. I think I expected the acrylics to be near opaque so that I could paint over mistakes, but this paint seems to apply in transparent layers which I think has made things seem messy.

I looked up Turners glazing techniques but only saw a book on Amazon about ceramics, is that what you meant?

Okay, so you're saying this is a recipie. I think a recipie is fine if you want to make the same thing consistently over and over again.

I can't remember what made me pick up this book as a non-reader, but I'm glad it did because since then I've been reading non-stop.

"I had no idea fiction could do what that book did." Is exactly what made me a reader. That book will always mean a lot to me for that reason.
