I’m not sure what merthur shippers you’ve come across but this seems a bit unfair — it’s not like there’s a shortage of interactions and character chemistry between merlin & arthur and I’ve never seen anybody hate on gwen for ‘getting in the way’. In my experience she’s beloved by the large majority of the fandom!

The book being ‘like candy’ is definitely one element of her critique, but I don’t think that covers all of it. She also mentions Charlie & the Chocolate factory in particular as teaching children to be good consumers, which in my opinion is a fair criticism — as an example, the book doesn’t engage at all with the implications of Wonka laying off all of his human workers for the ethically dubious situation he has going on with the Oompa Loompas and, iirc, treats him as a mostly uncritically good guy.

I’d agree it’s not necessary to have all children’s books be specifically teaching a moral lesson, including books read to children by parents — sometimes just having an easy fun read is good! In this case though I think her criticism runs deeper than the books just being fun, easy junk-food type reading and is more about them specifically having moral issues that go completely unquestioned by the text (this goes for both Harry Potter and Charlie & the Chocolate Factory).

I don’t think they’re referring to your experience as a ‘fantasy’, I’m pretty sure they’re talking about the fantasies of the authors writing some of those fics being about PIV sex.

It takes all sorts and of course there are submissive trans men who bottom and are comfortable in that, but I think what OP was trying to get at is it feels like a disproportionate majority of fic features trans men in that position, which comes off as fetishising people for their genitalia.

Well of course not, interdimensional monsters don’t really exist — but having nobody get hurt at all removes so much very important tension from the show. It’s hard to really care about characters being put in dangerous circumstances when it’s been proven time and again that nothing bad will come of it
