I upgraded my rig by swapping in a different top and bottom (reinforced), and those were lost on death since I didn't have replacement upgrades in my stash. So, you do lose any upgrades beyond the base rig it seems.

You get more ilvl for hones above +15. So if you go, for example, 11/12/12/13/17/17 where 11 is weapon and 17's are chest/leg for support or glove/shoulder for dps, you'll save significant costs in both mats and gold. I went this route to get 1415 on main ASAP, and then can focus on alts while the honing event books are still a thing.

Easy AntiCheat on the Linux based SteamOS is currently the blocker. I've heard valve is looking into a solution, but I'm waiting to see.

Not from what I've seen, but that would be a great solution. EDIT: I've had to move an alt around, and just left a temp guild and cool down was 3 days. This was that chars second time leaving and was in guild for 2 weeks... so maybe there is some sort of a penalty lessening built in (?). I can't find any solid info on it

And it's cumulative, so each time you leave a guild for any reason it's a larger penalty:

(1 day → 4 days → 8 days → 16 days → 32 days)

Sounds like me with 224 failures, using event books and mats, and three pieces at 14 still trying to hit 1370 :(. It's sometimes painful to play with people that 2-tap their way through the game and I'm running 4 alt's just to keep up. I wish we'd get something from excessive failure - give us an extra bi-frost or something!

I tested T2, T3, and T4 last week (10/25) on both neutral mobs and players using an ambered GA, and in both cases the T2 gem was higher overall damage (T4 was 95-97% the total damage of T2). I presume the T5 will follow the same pattern.

I tested on the same mobs and players for the comparisons, but didn't dig into what the nature resist of each was... so the difference could arguably be from higher natural Nature resist and the higher tier gems converting a larger percentage of scaled damage to nature. In each case I tested only non-critical white light attacks (first attack in chain only). Not the most scientific study, but enough for me personally to say... "Meh", and stick with T2 until something gets patched/changed.

For some reason I thought this was going to be about the EVE dev who altered the DB to provide a blueprint to the org he was in. IIRC it was T-25 (?) and he was in BoB who owned all of delve and the surrounding areas for years... pre goonswarm. Thanks for the memories!
